      Ezrin had his own way of doing things. Gene had written a short story and along with Paul decided Bob should turn it into a concept album. Outside writers were brought in. A choir was brought in. A session drummer was brought in on a couple of tracks and a lot of Ace's work was edited out of the final mix. Hearing his work edited from the final mix put Ace's nose out of joint and he quit the group. He even skipped out on a tv performance, Kiss lip synched as a trio! Paul and Gene eventually bought him out and by 1987 both Peter and Ace were out of the picture.

    • @kranmaster
      @kranmaster Год назад +1

      @@JENDALL714 Ace had been wanting them to do a proper hard rock album since Dynasty, but Gene and Paul wouldn't listen to the guy. It was pretty clear he had a better idea of what KISS was all about (and how to maintain the fanbase). He saw them becoming a joke, a Vegas sideshow. He stuck with Gene and Paul through Unmasked and Music From The Elder, continually being outvoted on musical decisions by them. He was completely disillusioned by the time they decided to record Creatures. Anybody in his position would have checked out by that point, regardless of drugs and booze. And was he wrong? Let's be honest. KISS was cancelling shows and playing to empty arenas in subsequent tours. Gene and Paul successfully transitioned the band from the top of the rock heap to a total joke in a matter of 3-4 years.

      Look up the clip of "Paul Stanley on meeting Peter Criss for the first time" to have your answer.
      Criss had this unhinged, almost punk rock kind of drumming which gave the band its sound. It fit the songs they came up with so they got him into the band.

      The only difference is that Paul legally changed his name to Paul Stanley, Ace never legally changed his name. He’s still technically Paul. Eric also well never legally changed his name. He was still Paul Caravello when he died.

    Around 3-4 minute mark: we didn’t want him to have an existing persona...that seemed almost sacrilegious. Eric came up with The Fox.
    Cut to the 2000s...Thayer and Singer take on existing personas as Spaceman and Catman.
    They at least should have been new characters.

    • @raywideman7157
      @raywideman7157 4 года назад +3

      Peter was actually a pretty good drummer all things considered, at least before the drugs and alcohol overwhelmed him. You just gotta remember, Peter’s background was from a different kind of music, a swing/big band style, not rock at all. So I would say Eric was probably a better fit for the band, his hero was John Bonham , and his musical mindset was more in line with what Kiss was trying to do. In fact, Eric was into Mettalica at the time, so if anything Paul and Gene had to sort of reign him in. Imagine being hyped about joining what had always
      Classically been a hard rock band and then recording music from the elder WTF??
      Anyway, Peter did a great job on the first 6 albums, and particularly to the first 4. His playing on Alive was about the only thing they kept, just about everything else had to be red done. So there was nothing wrong with Peter’s playing, he just wasn’t really a rock drummer

    To welcome him they bought him a Porche 924? The 924 was the cheapest of the entire Porche range and was made in collaboration with Volkswagen simply to enable the common man to be able to buy one. They were rust bucket pieces of shit so Kiss clearly didn't think that much of the new member.

      Only problem was it didn't draw in North America. I'm sure they still put on a great show (I was 12 then, too young to see it), but they played to a lot of half-empty arenas on that tour. They did well in South America, including the huge Rio show near the end of the tour, but that had more to do with the fact that they had never played there before 1983.
