You’ll never see this Tim, but every sainter was devastated to hear the news last year, and I for one thought we’d never see you again. Its so good to see you back, especially playing. We all love ya Tim, and you’re a sainter for life according to most I know!
Tim, I’m so glad that you sought help when you did. It’s a relief to hear that you’re happy within yourself because that’s all that matters. Thank you for sharing some of your story. 😢😊
Increasing the literacy around mental health and creating a space to destigmatise opening up are crucial steps in the effort to combat mental illness - especially in men. For too long the status quo has been to "toughen up" when we know the consequences are dire. This is a not-so-gentle reminder that mental health doesn't discriminate and of the need to wrap our arms around each other in an effort to remember: you're loved, valued and supported. There is an entire community of likeminded people here to embrace you no matter where you're coming from. Great job Tim and Saints team.
I can tell that he is genuine about promoting awareness and moving into mental health promotion through just being brave enough to talk about it. People like Tim and the Frawley's and the team at DFC are my real heroes. The great lesson in this is that there is always the option to just put your hand up and let the show go on without you for a breather. Even if it was before a GF, you just don't want to put anything before mental wellbeing. The idea that you have to push on through for the fans is not really helping the fans because this story is helping them go through their journey more than any silverware. CBT works and it is not just a therapy it is a framework for understanding the principles of mental health. The principles are very precise and they are pretty easy to understand. These principles can become a bit of a challenge to implement during the finals. The idea of just let the outer result go to enjoy the process, especially if you are a pro athlete and it is week one of the finals. Ross Lyon said on afl 360, talking about the finals, "It is always a challenge to help players to let go of the outer result, and the GF is the ultimate challenge in letting it go". Wow he has a great way of saying things and he does have insight into the principles, still it is another thing to be able to let it go when your whole life has been this dream of winning at the highest level. It reminds of the line from the poem "If you can dream and not make dreams your master" the closer that dream becomes a reality the more it can try to be your master. When the whole world and the media seems to be operating from the opposite mindset of just let it go and have fun then we all kind of get that bug. It is important to be aware of this because I have noticed a lot of football people that just go through this slight cognitive shift during the first week of football finals and if we become aware of this then we can keep our guards up collectively and help each other out. Part of the solution is helping players to really have the freedom to implement this new way of thinking that was started by Phil Jackson and then Ben Crowe at Richmond and now Craig McCrae of playing for fun to win, instead of playing to win for fun. This way we can have the best performance mindset AND the best formula for mental health in alignment with the principles of CBT. Hope this helps and although it may not be as big a factor as I think, it is important to be aware that there is a cognitive shift in the first week of finals and that mental health safety is really important during this week. Thanks for sharing Tim, I really appreciate it.
I was shocked to hear the late change in Osaka before heading to a footy training. But I'm glad you share the story, Skunk! Putting a mask is not good. I believe it is against what is inside you and keeping this habit affects you negatively. Someone at a standing bar in Kyobashi, Osaka says that we need to enjoy your life. What you say is exactly same as it. Go Skunk, go the mighty Saints!
Most men dont share whats going on in there headspace. When we do most people dont care and some are glad you have problems. This is what reminds us to not say anything to the next person. We remember the previous response as negative .So we battle our own demons alone..

Good video. Still didn't really get an idea of what he was going through though. But I guess he can't share everything
