I've been wanting to use the video editing skills I've picked up from making the reaction videos to make a new series called "The Top Shelf" where I can just spend time talking about things I love. That said, this is only my second time attempting one of these videos and the last one was like four years ago, so please, lemme know what you think here in the comments!
The art style is beyond madness, i dont even know what to call it but the animation is super creative and mind blowing. they achieved something incredibly special with this style and its legit radical : D
you loving this movie has somehow made me EVEN MORE excited to watch it! TMNT is one of the only franchises that get me obsessively hyped, and you have just solidified my want to see it even more! I love your TMNT reactions, and when the MM series drops, I'd love to see you react to it! (No pressure though, obviously.)
I still hope that Rise comes back someday, but I absolutely LOVED Mutant Mayhem!! The ending in particular is the happiest I've ever been watching TMNT since the Rise movie because the turtles actually got EXACTLY what they wanted! I thought they were gonna maintain some kind of status quo and keep them to the shadows (like the second Bay movie did) but they actually get accepted by society enough to go to high school, just like they imagined earlier in the movie, which I was NOT expecting at all (not even the Rise turtles got this)!
As soon as I saw Baxter Stockman's design on screen, I just kept thinking, "Yep. This totally brings me back to watching 80's and 90's Nickelodeon commercials and that art style." The entire movie just felt like a love letter to absurd animation that we were raised on during that period. This movie was so beautiful and insane and just m'wah! Chef's kiss. I loved the music, the flow of the animation, the voice work by everyone (the Turtles actors were superb), and the set up at the end. It felt like the movie could breathe and be its own thing, and the humor never felt like it overshadowed the tender moments for our boys because it all felt earned from their relationship. That aspect really shows during the recording sessions with the cast, as they were able to record in the same room, play off each other, and improvise dialogue in the scenes that matched how they vibed with one another. Just a masterpiece in animation and fun!
Also, absolutely subscribed after this because I just got into Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles after watching the teaser trailer for this movie, and I have been OBSESSED with it! Can't wait to see more videos from you on TMNT moving forward!
Saw this three times in theaters and have been watching it on repeat ever since it came out!!! This was everything I ever hoped for and it’s just a beautiful piece of artwork to study and admire!! I adored this film, they did the turtles so much justice and I can’t wait for more out of this franchise!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I adore this movie beyond all reason. I dont think that it hit the storytelling heights of the Spiderverse movies, or even Puss in Boots 2, but something about it is just so charming and nostalgic to me. The dialogue and script feel very modern, but something about the raw sketchbook style perfectly emulates the gritty realism of a 90s movie. Same with the old school hip hop soundtrack, the Jackie Chan inspired martial arts where the environment is taken full advantage of, or just seeing somebody pull out a gun during a fight in a garage. This movie is tightly written and colorful and constantly fun, but it doesnt feel over-polished, the way so many movies coming out these days do. Its a celebration of scribbles and asymmetry and actors messing around in the studio. I want to watch it over and over again. So excited for a new generation of kids to get to grow up with these turtles.
If you like the music in the times square scene, def look up the track on the OST "What's the Worst that Could Happen." They only used a fraction of it in the movie and the rest is worth hearing.
While these versions of the turtles were drastically different from the ones I grew up with, they were adapted and updated very well for this world and generation. The movie was also just super cute, endearing, and fun! I had a good time with it.
Having any of the turtles crush on April is always kinda weird. I talked about it more in the spoiler section but I figured I'd wait to drop that part until after everyone's watched it.

I'm even more pumped to see it now. My 2nd birthday in 1991 was TMNT themed and I've never stopped loving the Turtles.
I feel like I've probably had at least four Ninja Turtles themed parties in my life lol
