Hi Andrew. Soldering is the most exciting part of making metal dollhouse miniatures and I use the things you describe in this video, plus one more item. I never have used silver, only copper and brass but making a copper tea kettle, for example, involves joining a lot of parts. Conventional wisdom says to use solders that melt at different temperatures for doing this but I found an easier way. I apply toothpaste to the already joined parts. I have no idea why it works but it's possible to add a fifth or sixth part to the kettle as long as the other parts are thoroughly coated in toothpaste. Messy but it cleans up easily. Thanks for posting.
Love the way you walk through list of supplies, steps of procedure. You by far the definition of teacher, coach and mentor. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom of repairing, caring and making home jewelry projects.
I cannot begin to tell you, just how much I appreciate all of your instructional videos! You have helped calm my fears, and have given me such great tips along the way! The bottle warmer idea is simply genius! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world, it is soooo appreciated!
the comment about not using a firebrick is much appreciated . i hadn't realized i was defeating my purpose in using mine in the manner i was. i'll just use it from now on to place something else upon as a stage so to speak. . regards.
Thank you so much for this. As a noob, this can all be a bit intimidating, but I know I can do a creme brulee torch. Whew. And a baby bottle warmer. Genius. Thanks again.
So encouraging, this. After four years of evening classes classes and then nothing for 5 years, this helps me get over my fear to start all over again and have my own real workbench for the first time. Dared go for the flex shaft. It came in today! Let the fun begin! Thank you Andrew!
What a great teacher! no waffle, strait to the point, no "extras", just how to.
