I’m a huge fan of these budget little cars, and just racing them without a worry in the world. I think they are more fun than competitive cars because you can race around and do stupid things without costing thousands. We need more of these unique races Kev!!
drag cars cost thousands. a b6.4 u can build for right at or under a thousand. you pay for the quality, handling, and durability.
I find these cheap cars more fun for racing, it keeps it a level playing field and you don't need to spend hours maintaining every race
@@kevintalbotrc I 1000% agree, and the challenge of it is fun too.
@@kevintalbotrc Hey kev, are you able to give me a link to the car? I kinda wanna get a companion for my Tamiya M05
@@kevintalbotrc hey kev I have a 1/8 scale DHK maximus and would love to know if you know what tyres I can put on it for drifting or road slicks ? I don't know too much about what tyres will fit if anyone could help It would be much appreciated 😊
I used to race the Mardave versions of these (well the V12 hotrods) 20 years ago. A trick we used to use to stop grip roll was to put some thick CA glue on the outside edge of the front tyres. It would reduce front end grip a bit, but if the car went to roll, the slippery and stiff side walls would not dig in a cause a roll. Other thing we used to do to reduce the stright line twitchyness was to put the front tyres on a tyre lathe and create a slight conical shape (smaller outside diameter, and larger on the inner edge). That would effectively provide camber to the front wheels (not adjustable on these) and make them a bit more predictable in a straight line, but still plenty of grip for corners). We would also stack a few washers under the front wishbone mount to induce some caster too. Used to love racing them - cheap but fun racing (although at the top end of competition back in the NiMH days, we used to do all sorts of games with our cells to try and eek out just that bit more power from them).
That looks like a lot of fun for not a lot of pennies or dollars.
Kevin Must read this. I just learned something new with the Losi Promoto MX. If you tilt the receiver forward a little bit on the mount just twist it so the left top corner is facing forward. basically leaning at a forward angle the throttle will not cut when hitting the big jumps at the skate park. You lean it forward enough just to trick it into thinking it's still not past its wheelie tipping point. It works like a charm. We learned this while we were racing them and jumping them at the amain hobby race track. You put it on offroad mode it works best.
Hey buddy, I just found your video and it brought back many many great memories of when I would go racing every weekend. I have raced in just about every class ever starting in the early 80's. I have since become disabled and divorced, I had to sell off everything rc related. I just bought a few tickets to a few of your raffles. It would be nice to have something to play around with or put up for one of my grandchildren. Anyway, glad I found you, look forward to your next video.😁😁😁
224 mph in a RC blows my mind ❤ it would be cool to see a fpv camera on that run.
It's so low to the ground it would look like warp speed in the movie Spaceballs. lol
Kev is king of camera angles. He'll figure something out
9:17 tamiya used those tie rods and after 3 or 4 adjustments the cups were so wallored out they'd no longer stay on. Dumbest idea in the history of R/C. Those kamtec ones looked beefier but still horrible to work with. After I spoke to a guy at a hobby shop after buying my 10th pack of plastic tamiya ones, 44 yrs ago, he told me about team associated metal ones. Cost? $4 for the pair. Still on my rough rider 44 yrs later lol.

Love you kev I love the reviewing cars do more of those videos please like reviewing the new arema Keaton that video was great
❤
When are you going to raffle of the fast boats please
Nice one fella there really fun to drive just starting to get to grips with mine
Kev, your socials are missing the words "THE GOAT" in them.
My cousins got 4 of these he loves them so much. I had a go with one a few weeks ago, definitely a lot of fun for the money and easier to set up than a gt12 car.
It's "Kevin the GOAT Talbot" with another banger! That is why I love the new RTR Team Associated Apex Datsun carpet class races we have been having. 300 dollars plus good carpet track tires and a spare painted body and you are racing. The 3rd time having the class we had a turnout of 63 people registered to race. It was an epic weekend. So many first-timers went and bought them and had a blast. Plus the 1970s Datsun 620 body looks so cool. The only other cost was buying a spare body that you have to paint with 2 or more colors and add an orange number plate per the rules, or you can add a secondary color on the stock body with a sticker wrap and an orange number plate on the bed which we provided at the track. The next race is in mid-June. I can't wait.
They made a datsun 620 body now ?
@@gbresalekingyes and it's awesome.
I've had Mardave Mini's for 40 years. When I was last racing, I got my club to start racing Mardave Mini's and it lasted one season before Schumacher brought out their Mardave equivalent, and everybody moved over to that straight away! I was told it was all good as the Schumacher would be no better, but half way through the new season with the Schumacher's racing along side the Mardave's, it was clear I needed to spend more money and go Schumacher. BANG went the budget class and cheap racing fun! Why people can't just be happy with one cheap class that the Mardave offered is beyond me. We went from expensive 2WD to Mini's and back to expensive Schumacher's again! Nothing gained but cost!
these minis are way more fun anyway!
I love these types of classes so much! This is where the real fun is!
Kevin, glad to see you posted. Great video as always!!!
One of the best and biggest classes at my local dirt oval is the Stock 2WD Slash class. Super affordable and can be easily converted to a couple of other classes if you want to advance.
I run street stock with a Bandit I built mostly from parts and a motor that was given to me. I've even designed and printed my own body mount system. That said, I am still in it for a couple hundred by the time I got a body and some of the other parts. Thankfully, after all of the work it's actually very competitive.
Closest the US got for cheap equal and level playing field was the bolink legend (oval and dirt oval) in mid 90s. Great times. -U10
I loved the Legend cars and all the Bolink products.
We run the RJ. Speed Legends on the local carpet oval.
I loved my Bolink Eliminator. Other than the rear shock plate the cracked if it took any sort of hit it was a beast of a car.
I'm liking those little cars more and more! Them being so cheap and so simple makes them much more appealing!
the cars look so cool even after 1 race, the scratches and stuff
These are brilliant! There is a place a short walk that may allow some one to hire it for racing. Might be worth it, this looks great! Thanks for sharing.
Those little racers ... they're like the best chassis we had in the 70's and early 80's. :)
The Mini Cooper from Mr.Bean 😅😅😅
Great video as always 👍
Super cool looking and fast budget racers. Crazy handling and speed! Great job!!! 👍🏆🏁Kevin = Expert driver 👍🚙
Yes! I recently retired from 1/8 off-road. I thought bashing was expensive 😅. Between tires and entry fees it was over $300 a weekend and that's after buying the cars😂😂😂
Aye mate dope! I really wish I had more Rc clubs around me!!
Or any. :/
@@MegaSockenschuss Aye breh, I might be lazy about looking but they seem hard to find.
my new favourite RUclips channel by far. much support from western Australia
That was a pleasure to watch thanks Kev amazing video as always buddy ❤
Pause at 11:47
“it was at this moment he knew, he f#@&$d up” 😂
Bro im dead💀💀💀💀💀💀
Yes! Let’s go 225 MPH!
Raced these back in the late 80s here in Lancing when Mardave made them! Then early 90s in Bognor. Keith from Kamtec has brought them in to the modern times!!!
Great fun
That looks like loads of awesome fun for not a lot of dollars. Keen to see if they have a class like that here in Aus!!
They look awesome too!!
0:38 'MURICA!
Fuck Yea!
I am definitely going to make one of these my next RC purchase. Reminds me of the Mardave Mini.
What a great way of racing, that was great. The hsp here in Australia is one of the cheapest cars for around $220aud and i have a 1/10 nitro and 1/10 brushless monster trucks and they are cheap but so much fun so i really enjoyed this episode thanks kev! I might invest in one of the Mini's 🎉
This reminds me of the Bolink Legends rc cars. Loved racing those things!
On the speed car- I remember you were having problems with the tires. Wondering what you could find and test for a magnesium or aluminum bead lock wheel and using steel belted radials (if that’s even a possibility) the wheels I’m assuming you can find or have a sponsor make some but the belted radials in a rc size is what I’m not 100% on. Another thing as well, since you were shaving the wheels down what about finding a set with less offset and bigger spokes to try and give it more rigidity and possibly solve the problem of the wheels exploding.
Wow, great vid :)
That moment at 7:41 was a little bit scary with headphones at night ngl xDD
I standby my Baja... Atleast I can get parts for that lol... Elcon would be sick .... But I'm all for this cage free marshalling 😂
I like something simple to go race without having to have years of experience and thousands of dollars (Pounds) thanks for showing the options. I built a 1/10 scale crawler and I quite counting at 2500 dollars it can get real pricey quick.
Looked like a lot of fun.
Me n my Mate have Been doing it for a bit Now it's really good type of cheap it Racing for sure n my Lad luv's it lol :)
Just like the real MINI...real simple, real fun!
Hey Kev. I went to a Monster Jam truck show yesterday in Philadelphia. Can’t wait to see yours on the dirt with the big boys. 😁
Looks like good fun wish there was a club to race at near me with these cars
Kev those racing videos are really cool
Fantastic speed!! I would never bee able to drive them.
Awesome video mate and you're a great driver!
OMG These look so much fun 😂. I think I'm gonna have to get one.
Since your banger car video, I got one for m daughter and she absolutely loves it and the people you meet along the way are great
Awesome vid sweet thanks to you I’m getting back into RC cars what happened to bill and Mary I forgot there names, keep up the great work
Minis are just like Miata’s. You want to hate them with every bit of your soul and then you drive one and they make you smile.
That older guys crx body is so rad!!! The red and yellow one honda fan here!
I remember my first Rc mini it was a mardave from the 80’s. Great vids Kev
Through goes Kev
Great video. Love seeing stuff like this.
looks like great fun
Looks awesome!! Maby make all of them FPV and then race 🤔. That would be super cool
That little wheel stand from the mini was impressive I'll give it that I like it haha
Great racing Kev!!
I love this dirt cheap races videos
Great video, loads of fun!!
Love the South African flag in the back ground. 😊
Great video Kev, always entertaining and you’re an awesome ambassador for rc.
never cease to amaze me with your videos Kev. im just getting into drifting and theres hell of a lot of willy waving with £2000 rigs that dont even see the track wish i hadnt bothered really this seems miles better. lack of footage though lol
funny thing is, one monster truck shock is £2000 and theres no will waving at all
I used to run Mardaves back in the day on a 4S NiMH battery pack, I nobody was allowed to modify them, they were bone stock and we had a blast.
I Like your videos so much and it nice that you’re giving your rc cars away ❤🎉😊
i might actually just build your setup u got here cause these little cars seem fun
Hi, I'm from Hertfordshire. I love watching your video 👍👍
Always found the Mardave stock racing back in the day was some of the funniest and most entertaining. Oh and dirt cheap
I love your videos so much please post more Ive enjoyed your videos for around 6 years
Interesting little Car. I have a fewe old Electro RC Cars from the 70s, made, or at least sold by Robbe. They are 1:12 Scale i believe. They are built pretty simmilar to this Chassis.
Great subject for the video and it looks like fun!
reminds me of the old bolink/rjspeed legends cars they were so much fun
Keep the shots of the island coming man! Such a beautiful place!
Well done Billy :))
I think I definitely need one. 😀
13 min crew

Hi Mr kev 👋😜
Have great fun with the car 🚙💨 boom!!!
I bought kamtec reliant 3 wheeler .so much fun
Love the commentary 😊
I'm definitely watching Kamtec. Bangers look like a giggle, and then these... I'd like to see these little guys take off for spec oval racing. Racing gets so expensive so quickly
Amazing the whole world can race theese👍👍👍
That thing looks great Kev!! Nice racing too!
Looks super fun!
You're a true gentleman letting Rachel do all of the pedaling
great vid! thank you for the upload..was wondering how is your flying lessons going for you? have you got your pilot's licence yet? i bet you'll be excited once you get to fly solo for the first time. cheers! and for sure it'll save you time with your travels. see you in the next vid!
not had any lessons recently with moving but getting on it again soon. Bought a plane though, just gotta learn to fly it now, boom!
@@kevintalbotrc thank you for your reply since i know that you're a busy person. maybe in future vid show us the plane that you purchased.
yes! been filming it :) got an extra 330lx :)
I’m buying one because it’s so cool and I am a huge mini enthusiast with a few 1/1’s 👍🏼
For the ESC at the end if you replace those capacitors, it will run better. I don’t know why they use those ones is there going to fail. Fairly easy to do as well as there’s only two pins holding each capacitor on. Give that a try to see if it’s more reliable. You can also increase the uf value to slightly higher. ;)
Another great video kev! Been watching religiously 😂 cant wait for wednesday raffle maybe i win something once in my life! KEEP THE VIDEOS COMING 🚗
These are alot of fun. We run them on 20 turn brushed motor and 4cell NI-MH and its alot of fun.
Fav vid so far mate love your vids 👍
Looks like a blast yes mate!!!
looks fun
Looks like great fun
cant wait to join you guys , great vid
Can I get your opinion on something? I want to do a single motor setup for high speed; not speed runs of 175mph+, just durable high speed. Should I got with Castle Creations Mamba XLX 2 1/5 Sensored Brushless ESC/Motor Combo (800Kv) w/2028 Motor OR Hobbywing EZRun Max4/Max5 ESC & EZRun 70125SD (560kv) motor. The castle ESC says it's maxed rated for 8s, whereas the HW ESC is rated for 12s. In speed run videos I'm seeing mostly Castle setups, but I'm not really sure what to do. Can the castle XLX 2 +2028 (800kv) motor handle 12s? I noticed your speed sausage was Castle. What do you think about running the 2028 (800kv) Castle with the 12s capable HW Max4 or 5 ESC? Is this a possibility? Help me out Kev! or anyone! I'll post this again in the speed sausage video, to see if I get any hits. LOL
