Fairview Middle School in Silverdale, WA | Cross Laminated Timber installation

Congratulations to the Fairview Middle School in Silverdale, WA, which topped out on its Cross Laminated Timber installation.
The roof plate consisted of 143 CLT panels. The panels were modeled virtually and coordinated with all Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire penetrations. The panels also incorporated multiple steel elements which composed the composite construction of the Fairview Middle school. The planning also called for integration of a temporary water barrier to help mitigate water egress and improve overall QA/QC for the project.
The plan also consisted of joining 2 panels on the ground and pre-attaching the solid sawn outriggers and flying this prefabricated roof assembly into position for installation. The CLT panels were installed over a period of three days.
This project is special in terms of the hybrid nature required by the composite crew composed of union ironworkers and carpenters who were able to install the steel and timber components in sequence without disruption and as a team. Though there is always room for improvement, the Fairview project is a test case and example of what proper planning and the utilization of a composite crew can accomplish.
