    The 2.2 Update is now available for my 2016 Ford Edge through Ford Owners site. We apparently skipped 2.0 ( April 30, 2017 ) Now since I am Apple hopefully dealer will have the USB port part I need to also change out.

    remember to master reset sync before trying to update to version 3.. then re-add wifi and pair phone- turn on ford pass - took a 10 min drive and it started to update. Car wash turned it off ..restarted once on move again and done before getting home

    Has this changed for the 2018 models? I cant seem to get the auto updates with WiFi. I installed the folder to my computer, & transfered it to my USB. Truck says "LEXAR DETECTED" when I plug it in, but wont show anything that says it is installing. I am unable to find the folder "Installing updates to sync" when viewing the files on the computer, or USB

    It says after putting the USB in and waiting for the update to happen there should be pop ups saying its completed. 2 hours later and no pop up at all!.
    This is far more complicated than I expected.

    To anyone having issues updating their vehicles using USB, I had tried everything from using different zip extraction applications to different computers to different formatted flash drives (all same model 32GB PNY drives) and could not get it to work. Today, I decided to try another older 8GB Toshiba flash drive (even though my instructions said to use a 32GB drive) and it worked perfectly. It seems like it did not like any of my 32GB PNY flash drives.

      Wait, are we supposed to extract the files from the .zip before we put the usb in the car?

      What was the issue for you? Mine says updating but is taking hours with no end in sight. Might be that it's going from v1 to v3.4 but idk. Sucks sitting for so long burning fuel

    So my car came from the dealership with Sync 3.0 on it the update is for sync 3.0 so will installing it so I can register it with ford mess it up? If so then I will just go without it. It seems to work fine as it is. The only issue I could foresee is not being able to get the next update. I tried talking to a ford customer service rep and I don't know if she understood what I was trying to tell her and told me to reinstall install it and then I should be able to register it. Could someone please help me with this question.

    Ballpark on how long it takes to download on a high speed cable internet? All I get is a spinning blue/white circle for about 30 mins now.

      mine took 10 mins to download on a 44 meg download DSL connection

    Does the USB need to be completely empty? Or just enough space for update?

      I tried emptying the entire USB, and it still didn't synch the software update.

    I was finally able to download to USB and then get my car updated from 2.0. However, after its says "instillation complete", i restart my car like it says and it still says the current version is 2.0. I JUST WANT MY WAZE! I dont know what else to do...

    I prefered having it on my keys less complicated.... dont feel like installing the apps on other people cell phones who will be drinving the 2017! the 2013 keys worked perfectly!! sometimes you come up with stuff that really arent necessary

    system update has been updating for two hours and it's not done! How long should it take? It been way longer than the 30 min estimate. 1.0 to 2.???

      I haven't done it yet, but I read the sys update may take up to 2 hours WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. So, I'll need to fill up the tank before the update. Stupid way to update.

      I finally did the update. Not sure how long it took. Left truck running in driveway and checked back in an hour. Truck was shut off and update complete.

    I’m confused why my sync was last updated in January 2015 and it says it’s the latest sync version but it’s sync 1. How do I get sync 3 in my 2015 Mustang?????

    what if you did this whole process into the flash drive but plug into the flash drive and start the engine to the vehicle and the update doesn't start is there a manual way of doing it or was there incorrect process that I was doing when it comes to it?

    Great another dead end. Give us the full instructions for installing in the vehicle with navigation. The "Ford sync website tells me to take a hike with my mobile and won't give me access to the instructions bc, get this, you have to start on a computer and put something on a USB. Can we please have someone who is tech savvy and has gone through the process write the next videos? I should have to have a PC tethered to internet and I should be able to access the instructions on my mobile device without sprinting from in my house to my vehicle every time I get to the next steps.

    Wow Ford it's almost February 2017 and the update still has not been released for sync 3 version 2 for android auto.

      Thank you. I've chatted with sync support and they say they still don't have a release date for it. which is pretty upsetting considering 2017 models have them. I don't know what is with the delay for this update.

    im trying to upgrade from 2.2 to 3.0 on my sync 3 but 2 min into the upgrade from my flash drive i get an update failed message. error code MEM_ERR03. Im using a 32GB Flash drive

      Make sure your USB flash drive is formatted as FAT32.

      @@JG-ss9xy Just tried this so am posting for others. When I updated a few years ago it was exfat. I just did this on my Transit Connect Titanium and fat32 worked. I spent hours problem solving through failed attempts and it turned out it was this easy. So, for my car, fat32. Update took about 10 minutes and I've had no problems since.

    USB is formated as FAT32, all device is reject, Reset master did, wait 5 mins did, but still with " error code MEM_ERR03 " ,

    SOLVED: Installation failed. "Run out of space or does not work with this version." I was so frustrated and had been through multiple support agents. I was told to reboot the module (Power + Right-Seek for 5 sec). I was told to try a master reset. I had followed the USB instructions perfectly, 32G exFAT USB Drive...one of the last agents said to take it in for service. Rage emoji. BUT, I knew it shouldn't be this hard and I was just missing something. Kavi on Ford Sync Live Chat was able to assist and simply suggested, after downloading the ZIP file from Ford's site, to double-click the ZIP file, and select Extract All. Then, browse to your USB drive, and extract directly to the USB drive. I had tried wiping the drive and dragging and dropping before. This does not work apparently. Extract All to the drive after download...and it worked perfectly. Ford needs to update their instructions, but I'm happy to avoid taking my car in for a simple update.

      Thanks for the advice James. When you say Extract* was this on a MacBook?? I'm confused on what you're saying to do after Un-Zipping the downloaded file?? I appreciate any help

      MacBook doesn't extract right. It doesn't put the files in the right spot. You have to do it on windows if you can. That worked for me.

    On my second try updating from V1 to V2.2, both of the first two attempts were aborted after about 90 minutes....it shouldn't be this awkward to do.

      Had the same issue. Mine ran forever, and I aborted. Retried and got errors. After multiple live chat attempts, Kavi helped me by simply suggesting I double-click the Zip file I downloaded and select Extract All, browse to the usb drive, and extract directly onto the drive. It worked. I tried several methods, and followed instructions on Ford, resulting in more failed installations. Extracting the zip file onto the flash drive worked perfectly.

      James Alexander Turns out the APIM module in my truck had to be replaced. No charge from the dealership and now it works great!

    Love how you have to join their stupid mailing list just to download a piece of software. Also who just has their VIN with them? Y'all really make this into much more of a pain than it really shouold be. Just give a download link. Why make it difficult?

      you can get the vin number easily if you have the vehicle on your ford pass app

    Ford website says upload the .xml log file after the update is complete. Although the screen says update complete, mine never creates a log file!! So I can't confirm on the Ford website that the update has been done. Has anyone else had this issues and was there a solution for it??

      Yes, my account shows the latest update was in 2013 when my vehicle was new. I updated and provided details of a successful update in 2017 and nothing shows on my account!

    There’s nothing simple about this. It takes so long and there’s no excuse for not being able to do the update while the car is turned off. All you is waste gas. Also, what the heck is accessory mode? If you’re not in the car world, you don’t know what this stuff means.

    have done this 5 times and fails every time. "bad file" "not enough pass or not compatible with version" fails every time! and won't even do it over Wi-Fi 2016 f150 sucks and Ohh ford is crap won't ever buy another 1

      Had the same issue. Followed instructions. Went thru 3 live chat agents. Last agent, Kavi, had me double-click zip folder downloaded from Ford. On the opened window showing you the contents of the zip folder, select Extract All. Browse to your usb drive, and extract directly to the usb drive. I had multiple failed installs, errors about install ran out of space or was not compatible with the version, even after clearing the drive and retrying...but extracting directly to the drive appears to be right way....and I can confirm it worked.

      Thank you, worked perfectly.... I tried with my iMac the first two times, but got the message, "Installation Failed" Blah, blah, blah.... on my Ford F-150 Screen. I downloaded to my PC and dragged the files to my flash drive. It took about 20 minutes from the time the flash drive was placed in the USB port to download. Turned off car for 5 minutes, then plugged in the iPhone to the new USB port (you need to purchase) turned on the car and it worked perfectly. Saved myself about $220, as the dealer wanted to charge me 2 hrs of labor ($90 hr) and $100 for the part. I bought the part from another Ford dealer for about $60

      I've been trying to figure this out for weeks and still can't figure it out. Watched all of these videos that make it seem easy as cake. Based off your comment and all the hoops you jumped through, I figured you might be my best bet in explaining how you got it to work lol. I cleared my usb drive, figured that was the problem, still couldn't get it to work. The part I'm getting stuck at is unzipping the file that I downloaded from the ford owner website or whatever. Did you just drag the downloaded file straight from your downloads once it was complete onto your flash drive and then it worked? I've tried following the step-by-step instructions on the the Ford owner website, but when it gets to the step where it tells you to locate the file, right click it and open with "Stuff it expander", that's where I get lost. First off, I just purchased a new Macbook Pro about 6 months ago, updated to the newest iOS and everything. I don't see any option to open the file with this "Stuff it expander". So I went as far as downloading this suggested expander to my laptop, which immediately seemed odd because of course it allows you to download the software for "free" off of the website, but of course once its downloaded and I open it up there's an option to purchase the "full deluxe stuff it expander", so of course here I am spending additional time trying to figure out how to work this software listed as the only option to open the file, with the bold colored all caps font at the top of the step by step instructions saying "Please do not download this file directly to your USB drive!" So, with that being said, and me probably making this way more confusing and difficult than it needs to be, I'd really appreciate any advice you might have for me on how to get this to work before I go through all of the hassle that you did chatting with multiple agents getting absolutely nowhere? Thanks

      James Alexander this method didn't work for me. I'm on version 1 trying to update to version 3. I have to take it to Ford 😢
