Just appreciate it, he just gave you guys a treat, no reason needed & not expecting anything in return. It's quite common. Don't rack your brain trying to figure , what's the catch?

Normally when your food gets paid it is called “belanja” in malay. On Fridays especially, more muslims will try to belanja people as we believe we get extra blessings if we do it on Fridays.

HI. The restaurant you went for breakfast is Indian. Normally no beef is served, as per tradition culture for them.
Mamak means Indian Muslims. They do look similar though.
The 33 million population of Malaysia is made up of approximate 60% malays (all muslims), 20% chinese (mostly taoist, some christians and some muslims) and 7% of Indians (mostly Hindus, some Christians and some Muslims) and the remainings are a combination of different ethnicities.
However in KL you would see almost half the community are chinese. KL also has about 2 million of foreign workers be it feom Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Nepal, Philliphines and Vietnam (mostly as masseurs)
