Japanese buffets also have a 90 minute time limit, to prevent customers from staying there all day and eating again later when they get hungry again. When the 90 minute limit is up, a member of staff will come to your table to inform you that it's time to pay and leave. That way, they can also free up tables for new customers.
Just turn it down - the music won’t be so overwhelming. Videos with music have been proven to be more effective in marketing terms for most people. Just not you. And people like different music types so they try to pick generic upbeat music. I always feel like if a video is unpleasant for me...I can just turn it off. It is your option - no one is forcing you to watch. They can’t please everyone. There are many sources of restaurant marketing info where you can get the same data.
The way I see it, when you go to a buffet, it's not about how much you can eat, it's about the choices you have, you can try a little bit of everything, and enjoy the food you like, it's not about getting your money back by stuffing yourself to death. When you go to a normal restaurant, there's no way you can have that many choices . So eat smart and comfortable, ask for water instead of pop, try different stuff, a good Asian buffet nowadays normally have 50-100 different items at least, so there will always be something you'd like.
That's exactly what I was going to say. I go to a buffet not, just, to stuff myself silly but for the variety of foods. I'd rather eat a small amount of several different things than to fill up on one thing. I will always go for the meat and hot foods first and IF I am still hungry then go back for any salad. And don't forget there's always a dessert bar.
In Hawaii some buffets hsve time limit about 90 minutes. I guess its so other customers can get in. In Las Vegas a 200.00 buffet all sea food cavier and prime rib time limit 90 minutes. Usually there is a long line out the door before opening. And wine included
redpanda416 I used to stuff myself at buffets but for the past couple of years I've switched my eating habits and diet and yeah, at buffets, I love being able to get little bits of every healthy, good tasting thing. Even little bits of the unhealthy stuff!
I love all you can eat buffets! I am elderly and don't have all my teeth, so I don't eat that much, But I can pick and choose a huge variety of things to try. That is what is so nice about buffets. Keep them going guys. It is very nice to go somewhere and your food is cooked for you, and you get to try things you might not make for yourself at home.
When I go out, I like to eat foods that I would not normally have at home, either because they are too time consuming, too specialised, or because other family members don't like them.
A few more tricks: 1. Chinese places put more oil in dishes than necessary in order to make people full faster 2. Buffets often turn up heat in order to reduce patrons' appetite 3. Pricing is different for lunch and dinner; more expensive dishes such as seafood are being served for dinner only
Great video! I've always wondered how buffets manage to stay in business, considering the extreme over-eaters & the waste when you get something you don't like/don't eat. The price is certainly comparable to other types of restaurants, & often a better bargain.
Another way I think they restrict how much you eat is by providing you with a large cup for drinks and continually refilling it when its halfway or less. 😊
I like having choices of different foods and being able to get it my self. I'm not going for the price of the meal, I'm going for the choices especially when it's cooked well.
I love the all you can eat places because of the variety. Problem is, I found a few dishes that I really like and now I stick with them only. I don’t eat the meat dishes. I used to eat two/three plates but now it is one and a small plate of dessert. I eat at the place maybe once every quarterly. I mostly eat at home as I’m happy to see what goes into the meal.
Also, alot of the buffet foods is MSG laden and cooked with extra oil (or lard) so you feel fuller ( and bloated and sleepy later ) and usually don’t consume as much !
The thing I like about buffets is not just the choices of foods u have but u could go every night during the week and not have to eat the same thing like a regular restaurant where the menu never changes
I like them because my kids each get what they want and no arguments. I also know everyone will get full. Down side is no one takes leftover home. I like them for lunches later.
@@haggard21077 There are actually people who do that at buffets. Also some (not all but some) restaurants will actually give you a container to put leftovers from your final plate into if you ask for it after getting the check. Don't expect them to let you get near the buffet again with that container though not without being charged a little extra
I get what I want, in what order I want, and in more than one plate. I get a plate of "higher priced" foods (meats), a plate of salad, and a plate of desserts (if I am feeling sweets at that visit). I get smaller portions which allow me to get 2nd helpings if I choose. The video content generally makes sense and buffets are likely to stay around for a long time. GOOD (healthy option) buffets are a great option for groups or for when you what a diversity of choices. They can provide a win-win situation.
I usually get all my veggies and casserole stuff first, then the big ole plate of meat, then the dessert round. If any room remains, I then get either more desert, of a round robin plate of the previous three plates. Treat these places like a multi course meal, and it's a great deal.
My family learned long ago to skip the beginning of the buffets and head for the pricier stuff. Also, the pricier stuff is often better for you (not always, granted). I don't do buffets now as I don't eat carbs (except those in veggies) or sugar - so there is no point in going.
Actually I find them great for low-carb! You have all kinds of low carb vegetables, plus already prepared meats. You just don't get batter fried or meats with sweet sauces on them. At Golden Corral you can Google the amount of carbs in each offering. Like for example their taco meat - to put on tacos or nachos - is quite low carb. I'll make chipless nachos by putting the taco meat over some greens from the salad bar, then pour queso dip over that and some pico de gallo on top of that! Very delicious. I always get to-go because I find that cheaper, and I'll get some extra low-carb stuff and freeze it for a later meal.
I'm 6' 4" and still going through growth spurts and I'm deep into athletics so with an appetite like mine a buffet is much cheaper and I eat a lot more. For that reason I don't go out to eat anywhere else. I'm a water drinker so they don't get that big profit from me.
Anyone out there remember the all you can eat restaurant from the 80’s called Duff’s? That place was in a catagory all to itself. They had these revolving serving stations where you’d stand still and scoop all you could on your plate before the trays passsd you by. Kinda fun as a kid to eat there and also watch very hungry patrons try to hastily load up there plates befor the serving trays passed them by. Also self serve soft ice cream was the rage then, yep Duff’s had it all!
definitely worth it pure and simply due to the variety of dishes on offer. you can really take your taste buds to town and enjoy only the foods you find really tasty...
I am fairly certain that brännvin must have originally been the local variation of the word brandy; for those who haven't heard this before, "brandy" is the modern form of "brand[e]wine," which is the anglicized form of the Dutch "brandewijn" - a cognate of e.g. German "Brandwein," and they all literally mean "burned wine" ("branden" meaning "to burn" - see "branding iron" for another surviving word in Modern English, as well as the verb "to brand"). Frankly, I don't know if they co-opted the term to refer to spirits in general from the beginning, but it's more plausible that it changed meaning over time.
I've been to a very large all-you-can-eat Japanese buffet restaurant where the rule is that when you eat the sushi, you are not allowed to leave over the rice. At the Chinese buffet I go to when I do, though rarely, I've noticed that the quality and freshness of the food depends on what day you choose. If it's a day which is bound to have more customers, the food is better. I think the food was best when I ate there on Valentine's Day.
I've never been to a buffet in my area that's had a strategic layout, smaller serving dishes, or smaller plates and utensils. Many years ago I worked at a buffet for a short time where at the end of our shifts the staff could eat meals for $3 (I believe that was cost.), while customers were paying $9 to $13 a meal.
At one all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant, my friends and I had a ton of food that was leftover. Since diners get charged for whatever is leftover on their plates, we decided to cut a deal with the manager and he agreed to let us take home the leftovers for only $20.00.
Heading out to a casino tonight, for the New Year's Eve, grand buffet. Crab legs, shrimp, prime rib, oh my. Sure hope there's champagne. I intend to get my money's worth.
@@davidb2206 Grow up. I get what you are trying to say, BUT there is nothing wrong with there statement. This is a comment section. Not school or work etc.
Then you're ignorant. Fresh produce is the most expensive per calorie food there is. All carbs. Meat is more expensive but you eat less of it because it's high calorie.
Which brings up another thing they can do to cut their cost. If there is something "expensive and popular" on the buffett they will be slow in refilling it once it runs low. Most people won't just wait for that item t be refilled and will instead keep "grazing" on the filling but cheaper items while they wait. By the time the expensive item gets refilled many of the people waiting will now be full and either pass or take a smaller portion.
@@bcaye Also, regardless of the calories you're talking about, that doesn't make you full faster than carbs and I'm not only talking about meat here. I can be talking about their cheeses, and even deserts. While they may contain carbs, they're not starchy and they're also expensive which is what I'm talking about. Let me rephrase. "this is why I don't get carbs (Like rice, mashed potatoes, breads that can make you full faster) on buffets. I go straight to what's expensive (Like salads, appetizers, deserts, cheeses, etc)" For you to get the point. No need for name calling.
I liked "all you could eat" buffets and enjoyed all the foods. Havent been to one for many years now. Usually went to those when we had business parties or birthdays. Thanks for the info on how they make money from "all you can eat".
Sweet Tomatoes, a salad, soup, focia bread (like pizza), limited deserts, spaghetti, etc. buffet, does NOT follow any of that - drinks can be separate, but not always. Super good food and most always busy!!🤗
There is a Brazilian all you can eat restaurant in Seattle that sounds soooo delicious, but it's very expensive. Even just to get salad is very expensive. And I've never gone because I just think "I could NEVER eat anywhere near enough for it to be worth that price!" I don't know how I was able to pig out like I did as a kid, but even as a, um... voluptuous... adult, I can no longer eat like I once could. But the buffets I do still go to are inexpensive, and I go because I truly love about 5 of their offerings. It's no longer to stuff myself! :D
Can't believe you didn't mention the time limits. First thing I learned going to Japan once for a breakfast buffet, after an hour somebody came and took my plate away mid meal. That's all you can eat!
I only ever liked buffets for the variety, not the amount. That said, I rarely eat at them anymore. I live in the Seattle/Tacoma area. Too many great restaurants here. People don't even eat at chains too often aside from fast food.
Luckily , I don't grab the rice or salads first (I pass that area without thinking). Somehow the first thing I grab is the meat or fish or vegetable and soup . I think it is more worth if you eat in this direction : Meat/seafood → whatever you like (eg. eggs, soup...) → rice/noodles → desserts/fruit (you can eat desserts/fruit before rice/noodles or it can go under "whatever you like" )
Well, gotta love Golden Corral! In any Buffet, I limit myself to at least 3 plates, mainly Salads on one plate, Meats, Veggies, Starch on one plate, then a few selections of desserts on a smaller plate. The key for me is to do 1 plate at a time, and eat slowly to enjoy the food. Yes, I sometimes will have Coffee with my meal.
Having been in the business for 30 plus years I can tell you there are other secrets that we used. For instance at the former Don Cesar which was bought by the LOWES hotel chain we used to have a Sunday buffet. And we made a killing. As a large 5 star facility we usually had between 8 to 10 wedding a week. Now people never think about the left over food from a large venue of this type. An example is that you might have a caviar station. not knowing how many people like it you would often over buy maybe 2 to 3 times more than you would really need. You pay for the whole thing, but you never count how much used as a consumer. The rest we would set aside. And on and on for each party. Well come Sunday brunch we would have all kinds of food left. so it would go on the buffet line. And people would pay $45 a piece to eat a 5 star brunch (that someone else had paid for already) Yes we did have to reinforce some of the food with extra items but usually it was a 90% profit mark up. Another thing that is done is once the item starts to run low we would remove it to the kitchen and "remake it" in other words refresh it to a smaller bowl and small serving items, and take it right back out. That is a major way that buffets make money recycling and refreshing the food. It is a common practice all over the country. So next time it looks a bit wilted or tired pass on that item.
Yukk, I decided to stop eating at buffets yrs ago. With the exception of Indian on a rare occasion, but my rule is; I'm the first at the opening time before everyone comes & starts Digging in it. 😲
I getvdessert first so I don'tvgetvit full to have it. Ha! It's worthbthev15 bucks just for desserts. 3 or 4 small ones. A chocolate fountain. Soft ice cream..yUm..heaven.
For people like me who grew up in a church setting, this is one of the few other places where you can enjoy quality buffets. The one I grew up in has several amazing cooks that sometimes turn simple dishes into potluck staples. This video I find quite interesting, and I learned something new. What seasoned buffet eaters will tell you is that sometimes it's all about the combination of food on your plate. One example would be vegetables and rice. Most people enjoy steamed vegetables over rice w some teriyaki or soy sauce on top. At the same time, green bean casserole might taste even better mixed in w the rice. On a more American slanted buffet, you might find the mac and cheese, a potato dish along w the meatloaf. Don't know what anyone else thinks, but I'd be tempted to mash it all together, then pour the ketchup or BBQ sauce overtop. I also recently realized Swedish meatballs go great w mac and cheese,....
One advantage of AYCE is the abundant variety of items that can accommodate any diet restrictions. You don't have to ask the waiter what is include in the meal and whether an item can be replaced by another. Everyone hits the serving area and choose his/her own combinations. Perfect for any gathering of people.
That endless background NOISE is so distracting. Have they also done studies on how much more information people retain when the "music" is muted so we can actually pay attention to what you are trying to teach? And why, at the beginning of your presentation do you ask us to subscribe when we haven't even begun to hear and see what you are trying to teach? That doesn't sound very bright to me. Would I subscribe to your channel? Yes, if I enjoy the endless distracting noise in the background that repeats itself over and over again.
At my favorite Asian buffet I mix rice and green tea in 1 bowl on my plate surrounded by various veggies. I drink the tea from bowl, then add veggies and a piece or 2 of meat or mushroom on the remaining soaked rice. And drink balsamic/Pellegrino as the beverage. Healthy, tasty, filling with amazing weight results!😉👌
My most like buffet was Harvest Moon and every thing was behind glass and the only self service was the ice cream and cookies. They had a great food and was a relaxing place to eat. Since I was a child at the time they always encouraged me to eat my vegetables and try new things. I do think they where surprised on how much I could eat. They also made the best tea around it definitely wasn't bitter. And there egg drop soup was wonderful. It was the smallest buffet I have ever seen and the food never changed. But they are the best in all around experience the service, food , atmosphere every thing was great. And they always gave you a cookie to go when you payed the bill.
My kids always know ahead of time to not order soda and I use buy one get one free...sometimes two coupons so I only pay for 2 out of 4 of us. If they try to pull the only one coupon per party we do separate bills
The oriental buffet we go to on occasion, because it IS expensive, has got a lot of seafood and sushi, so much in fact that it's hard to find greens other than the salad bar. On top of that, the drinks are included in the price of the meal and they have regular size forks. They still have smaller plates and dessert bowls but their soup bowls are pretty good sized. And the quality of the food is delicious. They probably do charge extra but it doesn't cost much more than any other restaurant in this area. I live near Palm Springs, CA and everything is expensive here.
I like to eat at buffets for the variety. I can eat as much as I want of certain dishes. I can make my own plate instead of working a menu. I get my money's worth because I eat what I want, not because I eat a lot of food.
One thing not mentioned here..... Is all you can eat Buffet is often just a lunch situation, in restaurants that have a MUCH higher priced dinner offering that is NOT "all you can eat". The restaurant needs only to break even drawing in the lunch crowd from local businesses. This can introduce your food to more people. They may enjoy going out to dinner too, thus building customer loyalty. They may not mind paying a lot for similar food when served for dinner.
At many buffet restaurants they offer a bottomless glass to drink as much soft drink as you can while having your meal; The cost is usually around $3 per glass per diner and you are not allowed to share the glass with anyone else dining with you.
If it says in the name, 'All you can eat', and they ban you, that's called false advertisement and they can be sued. They need to be careful. I read where one guy who was Samoan and a very, very large Man went into an all you can eat buffet, The staff was told to keep an eye on him. He went straight for the meat and other "good stuff". After 12 trips they told him he had to leave. He refused. They called the police and told them he was trespassing. They escorted him and his family out. He turned around and sued them for humiliating him and his family. He won the law suit stating that it was false advertisement as well as calling the police on him and his family when they were just there to eat. The lawsuit was for $185 million dollars. The Restaurant refused to settle out of court as advised by their attorney and they lost. They had to pay well over $298 million dollars to the Man and his family and they went out of business. By the way, the Samoan, was a pro Sumo Wrestler.
We had the best Chinese Restaurant I've ever been to. Lived in North Carolina for several years. They fixed this dish called Canton Chicken. It was breaded pieces of chicken with a special brown gravy and it was best with steamed bok choy, carrots, onion, and broccoli. My favorite meal ever and I can still taste it today. I've moved a couple of times since then and have never been able to find a restaurant that made it like they did. I've even searched the internet and have found many recipes and tried them but can never get the same taste as the original. I'm almost positive they used special ingedients in the chicken batter and gravy because it didn't taste anything like the brown gravy and breaded fried chicken pieces I had tried up to that point. I even experimented and tried a little more or less of the ingriedients. A few months after I left there I called the Restaurant and asked them if they would tell me the recipe but no go.
Being a hotelier, buffet is my most dislike form of meal because: 1. The amount of food waste is staggeringly huge 2. 80% of the menu is based on cheap ingredients 3. Chef tends to push the not-so-fresh ingredients as buffet meal 4. Too many carbs If you can, go for really good buffet Dim Sum. Much more worthy.
Variety - yes! Sometimes I go to an upscale Asian buffet. This gives me a chance to get dishes from several nationalities - American - Chinese - Thai. There is a draw back to buffets. there is usually no chance of taking your leftovers with you.
Buffets also add a ton of salt to their food to make you drink more which fills you up and you don't eat as much. Saves on food and you pay the higher prices of drinks.
@@bcaye true but watch, if you notice that you drink more than usual while at a buffet place, they have added salt to their food. Fill you up with liquids so you don't eat so much food.
I have a favorite buffet and usually eat the same things every time. I just don't go there more than once a month or so. What I do do is customize the recipes. For example I start with the soup and fill my bowl but I then take an extra bowl and "surf" the other dishes, taking out the shrimp or plump mushrooms, various meats, etc to put in my soup back at my table. In a sense, I make up my own recipes containing the more expensive and delicious ingredients. The same goes for all the other dishes and I end up eating a very different meal than my companion buffet eaters!
Here in the Philippines, drinks are usually included in what you pay for the advertised cost of buffet. So if the buffet cost Php 699. pesos person, then he gets both dishes and drinks. There's no buffet here whereas drinks are not included.
I still like open buffets. And usually what we pay is mire for the great variety they offer. I love to try many kinds of foods in small portions. And thankfully I don't like to drink pops or juices. I just ask for a hot water with lemon slices and a cup of coffee if it was lunch time. I'm always satisfied with I get for what I pay. AND it's A business, PEOPLE. They HAVE to make money.. Nobody should take advantage of that and ruin it! 🤨
+Salwa, They make a good deal of money with buffet style service. The markup is much higher than most other types of dining. A modest percentage of customers that can really eat, will not break the bank at these places.
The psychology of "getting my money's worth" at a buffet aligns with the American marketing strategies of "you deserve more" and "you deserve the best" and "you deserve endless choice" that have been so successful here sine the 19th century. Americans are no longer satisfied with a portion size optimal for the average adult and think they are being insulted or cheated if their stomachs are not in pain at the end of a meal. Nearly endless choice and no apparent limits for a seemingly impossibly low price is truly the new American Way and buffets are the perfect reflection of that.
I go to buffets for the many choices as well as the ability to eat immediately. I don't have to wait for someone to bring me a menu, I don't have to wait for them to come back and take my order, I go right to the buffet and pick out exactly what I want.
After this explanation I still don't get, how the Asian all-you-can-eat-buffet that I visit on regular bases can make it. They don't alter menue according to the season, they have regular sized plates and flatware, drinks are included in the price, the salat-bar is set aside from main-dishes wich mostly are meat based and they even offer sushi, wich means always fresh ingredients. Also they have waiter. They don't bring food or drinks, but they take used plates, glasses, cups and bottles from your table on regular bases so theres space for new, filled ones and they bill you at the end. Ok, they still have a few points going on in their favor like you told in the video, but about half of them don't apply to them.
Same with a Chinese buffet here. They have a hibachi grill. There is one buffet station with raw fresh ingredients including beef, chicken, shrimp, bean sprouts and other stuff. You fill a plate with what you want from the raw ingredients. Then you take it over to the hibachi grill where they cook it and put your choices of sauces on it right in front of you. And you can use it as many times as you want to. And this is in addition to the all of the other ready made stuff.
I go to these places with my friends when they drag me there but not by myself because they are all in Chinese which I don't speak and I have no idea what most of the stuff there is, and they are pretty pricey. How are the prices at the ones you go to?
i love my local Chinese buffet (lunch is 12ish dinner is 16ish) i usually fill up with 3 plates (bbq chicken, pork dumplings, some very tasty cheesy bread/seafood thing, broccolli, pepper steak, repeat 3rd plate is mostly sushi) i think i get a great deal outta it and regarding the soda? one can always get plain tap water
I love all you can eat Buffet places because there is a wide variety of choices of differant foods that i can enjoy and try. I always try something differant each time i. Go. I do not over pile my plate i serve small portions of my plate. I dont take too much. I like buffets because i can select differant foods. And relax. The good thing about buffets is i do not have to wait on the waitress or waiter and i dont have to place my order and wait
I have also noticed that buffet restaurant chains, at least in the US, have a high closing rate, when you consider the number of locations Cici's Pizza, Golden Corral, Hometown Buffet/Old Country Buffet/Ryan's, and Bonanza/Ponderosa have closed in recent years. I assumed that food waste and "super eaters" contributed to their demise.
That and they are expensive (hometown and golden) on top golden charges by the pound if you want to take leftovers home. The last time we went as a family of five it was 100+ just to get in and be seated. I havent been back. But my dad enjoys it too much to not go🙈🤦
I saw plenty of people with ziplock bags in their giant purses stuffing chicken, ham, steak, etc to take home! I told the manager about it one time and he said they were aware of the practice but pretty much powerless to stop it. This was at Ryans and they closed up.
It's interesting... Here, our lunch buffet restaurant include the drinks (all you can drink), you go to whichever cuisine you like, and walk straight up to the meat, and then move to starches, and lastly sauce/gravy, and garnishes. The salad bar is a separate buffet, and a separate plate, which you get after your meats etc. The plates are the same 28cm plates as everybody have at home. Best thing is the dessert and coffee stand, that will even allow you to make/take a coffee (Latte, etc) to go, after you had your coffee and ice cream and pastry or whatever you get that day.
The sign said: "All the lemonade you can drink for a dime." I paid and had a glass. Then I said "another glass, please." The person said "but you already had a glass, and that's all the lemonade you can drink for a dime."
OMG This looks incredible. I wish they had it in the U.S. I'm sure they do, but where? I"m sure 👩👨 ! Thanks for sharing, but now I'm incredibly hungry... both my husband & I. NUMMERS!!!!
No, buffets are not a low price.. at country buffet and asian buffets, I only see about $14 per person.. that is too much for my pocket. Not worth it if I can't eat more than one plate. I can get more food for less money for myself somewher else.
It's economical, if you can eat 14 different items, then, they'd be $1 EACH. So sampling many edibles, makes it more economical, than gorging on specific things. It IS true, that if you took the same $14, to a dollar store, you could get 14 edibles, where you could eat one for 2 weeks, or 2 for one week. For some people, these buffets, are treats, to get a variety of foods, and treats they don't get much otherwise. They're great places for gathering of groups of people, with differing tastes or diets (vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, omnivore, etc.) then everyone can get something, they like. Sometimes, these are cheaper than regular restaurants, that want $8-$11 for a burger & fries/main dish, and another $7 for dessert, + drink & tip. So, at buffets, dessert is included, and there's an incredible array of choices, from pizza, pasta salad, corn on the cob, beans, corn, pasta & sauce, soup, salad, pies, cookies, a sundae bar, etc. That if you really add it up, it's reasonable. For example, a huge plate of pasta & Marinara, at Olive Garden, costs $10.99 alone. Soup, salad & bread sticks, also cost $10.99, + dessert, + drinks & + a hefty tip, starts to add up to at least $20+. So, for $14, at a buffet, you could just get 7 things, then each would only cost $2. So, if you got soup, salad & bread at a buffet, that would cost only $6, at $2 an item, and you could still get 4 more items, a hot protein, hot veggie, and dessert, and maybe a piece of pizza. Think about it, if you bought pizza by the slice somewhere, it would cost $2.50-$3 a slice. Even KFC charges $2.50, for half a cup of plain corn, or instant potatoes. Any salad you get for $2, will be very unimpressive. At buffet salad bars, you can put 10+ things on your salad. At a local grocery store salad bar, they want $5.99 a POUND, of stuff from the salad bar, of which you get very little, for that cost. If you go to the deli, to get pasta salad, they want $2.99 a pound for that. At a buffet, you can load up your salad, as much as you want, without worrying about a price per pound cost. You can get an entire Italian meal, (as much pasta, pasta sauce, garlic knots, salad, pizza, lasagna (if they have any) and anything else you want, such as side vegetables, pie, a sundae,) for that $14. So, it's all in how you look at it. Sometimes you can get buffets to go, and then share it, to get a better price per person. Pizza Hut's buffet, is $7 for only a salad bar, & pizza, with a few other minor choices, like bread sticks, cinnamon sticks, mac & cheese, & dessert pizza. That's it. So, if a vegan & vegetarian/omnivore split the cost (vegan gets the salad bar, vegetarian/omnivore gets the hot bar) it would be around $3.50 per person. That's cheaper than the cheapest subway sandwich. Get 7 items (1. salad bar, which you can include things like potato sticks, vanilla wafers, pudding, fruit, etc. (if you ask for cups to put them in), 2. 2-4 pieces of pizza, 3. bread sticks, 4. dessert pizza, 5. cinnamon sticks, 6. mac & cheese (hint bring your own container to put it in, & put the container, in the pizza box they give you, or ask for "dressing cups" to put it in) 7. marinara sauce to dip the bread sticks in (it's EXTREMELY HOT, so bring a paper cup cut in half, to use as an insulator, to put the "dressing cup", they give you to put it in), and it's well worth it. Plus, you can pile the salad up, and get multiple pieces of pizza, without worrying about a price per pound on the salad, or price per slice, on the pizza. Be aware, that the Pizza Hut I went to, tried to limit the allowable take out pizza slices, to two 3" wide pieces, aka a child's serving. They also said "pizza, and cinnamon, & bread sticks only" from the hot bar, excluding the mac & cheese & marinara sauce. They also assume people would not want to take, and put runny pudding, or cookies (which will get soggy) in with their salad. They assume people won't ask for cups to put those in, so less food leaves as a "take out" buffet. In that way, by limiting what people can take, in a "take out" buffet, they make more money, on take out buffets (because less food is allowed to be taken) , than the "all you can eat," where they can't limit, what a sit in person eats. There are no written statements that I know of, that definitely states, that the take out buffet excludes certain items. So, if they balk, I point that out. No one has said anything about it yet. So I take what, and as much as I want anyway, because the take out price, is the same, as the "all you can eat" in price. I take what I can carry, that fits in a closed small pizza box, and the salad container, they give, to get my money's worth. I try and get the macaroni, and marinara sauce, when they aren't looking, but I shouldn't have to be sneaky, if I'm paying the same price, as the eat in full access customers are. I always ask for two salad dressing cups for dressing. If I feel they're tolerant, I ask for more cups to put, fruit, cookies, and pudding in. Golden Corral, had 10+ dessert choices, besides the ice cream buffet. You can get pizza there, and so much variety. Pizza hut, offers no hot veggies, at all. So, for variety, and many choices in one place, buffets, are worth it. I can't remember if one tips at buffets or not. If not, than that's a big savings over regular restaurants. Just to tip, for someone to bring bread & drinks, (at Ryan's & Golden Corral) IS irritating.
We go before a game. We've got minor league baseball and hockey teams in my city. $14 for whatever the heck I want sure beats $14 for a hot dog and a souvenir-sized cup of pop in the stadium! Plus, it allows my kids (youngest is extremely picky) to be able to try new things without worrying about "having to eat it all". They pile on their favorites, but they're also able to easily get a single bite of a couple things to try. That alone would be impossible in a regular restaurant! $6 for 2 strips of bacon?? I don't know anyone who could spend $12 on 4 strips of bacon and be full! I'll pass on that, thanks. At my local buffet, they have strips of bacon - real bacon, not the "bacon bits" - on the soup and salad bar. You can crumble them yourself for your salad or to add to your soup...or, of course, eat them "as is". Half a dozen strips of bacon for $14 versus 6 strips for $18? It's a LOT cheaper than at a restaurant ALONE....never mind what else you can get at buffet...since even 6 strips of bacon isn't going to fill anyone! Even getting cheap pizza, you're looking at more than $14 for 2 large pizza's ($5 each) and an order of bread sticks (also usually $5 or more)...but people get tired of eating the same thing all the time. can my family demolish that? Of course (there are 5 of us)....could I get 2 pizza's and a bread stick for myself? Yeah, I could, but I'd get sick of pizza LONG before I finished it all. I don't get how you can say it's expensive. Normal people don't go to a buffet for every meal - let alone one or twice a week. If that were the case, then, yes, it would be expensive. Most people who go to buffet places only go once - maybe twice - a month at most. Perfectly affordable to be able to have whatever you like...and maybe try a few new things you've never had.
To go for Chinese all you can eat locally lunch is 25 dinner is 30 for adults. It cost me over 250 for a weekend birthday with a party of 3 kids and 3 adults, kids are half price at any time. Certainly not cheap.
I always try a bit of anything except for rice. I have noticed that when it comes to all you can eat desserts, people will grab plates from the main buffet table to use.

Japanese buffets also have a 90 minute time limit, to prevent customers from staying there all day and eating again later when they get hungry again. When the 90 minute limit is up, a member of staff will come to your table to inform you that it's time to pay and leave. That way, they can also free up tables for new customers.
@@sakuramari 90 minutes seems pretty generous
I can't take that background music one more second....
Lol... I'm right there with ya😂
I didn't even notice the music. I was so focused on what was being said.
There are many sources of restaurant marketing info where you can get the same data.
ha,ha,ha!!
its just 'hey soul sister' without the lyrics.
Excellent point...I agree
That's my approach too. I love the variety of a buffet.
redpanda416 I used to stuff myself at buffets but for the past couple of years I've switched my eating habits and diet and yeah, at buffets, I love being able to get little bits of every healthy, good tasting thing.
When I go out, I like to eat foods that I would not normally have at home, either because they are too time consuming, too specialised, or because other family members don't like them.
i go to buffet simply so i can eat a bit of EVERYTHING not eat some big portion of same dish
That's a good idea.
good !
That's what I do, too. BUT!
When roast beef is on the menu and its GOOD RB, I go back 3 or 4 times for additional servings of da BEEF!!
Usually the same to me there.
Would rather get several smaller plates anyway.
A few more tricks:
1. Chinese places put more oil in dishes than necessary in order to make people full faster
2. Buffets often turn up heat in order to reduce patrons' appetite
3. Pricing is different for lunch and dinner; more expensive dishes such as seafood are being served for dinner only
Also they take the white rice that day and make fried rice the next day . also whit the fried Chicken it to a different dish
Also, carry out is per pound and that's not cheap.
Seafood at buffets are disgusting

Pure yummy..
I've always loved Chinese and Italian

Just put plastic bags in your pockets and stuff them full of food and then you'll have leftovers for the next day lol jk.

I usually walk around and see the whole buffets offerings before I even start dishing anything out.
These ideas could easily be applied to a family holiday dinner or reunion. VERY educational.
I'm 6' 4" and still going through growth spurts and I'm deep into athletics so with an appetite like mine a buffet is much cheaper and I eat a lot more. For that reason I don't go out to eat anywhere else. I'm a water drinker so they don't get that big profit from me.
nice job! :)
I take filtered water with me but I very rarely drink with my meals.

“They offer tongs does that you have to grab one at a time and not pile it on your plate”

At one all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant, my friends and I had a ton of food that was leftover. Since diners get charged for whatever is leftover on their plates, we decided to cut a deal with the manager and he agreed to let us take home the leftovers for only $20.00.

awww. I know - I like just water also. I like my tea or coffee, but I mostly have that at home lol.
This is why I don't get carbs on buffets. I go straight to what's expensive.
Then you're ignorant. Fresh produce is the most expensive per calorie food there is. All carbs. Meat is more expensive but you eat less of it because it's high calorie.
Then you're ignorant because you don't know what carbs do.
I usually skip the carbs because they make me feel bloated. Don't feel the need for starchy food with meat and veg.

@MS - Not sure which one of us you're asking. If it was me - I don't expect anything. You can believe, or not believe, whatever you wish. :-)
Yeah, and our buffets tend to be expensive.
I love the all-you-can-eat-buffets because of the huge assortment of foods.
Luckily , I don't grab the rice or salads first (I pass that area without thinking). Somehow the first thing I grab is the meat or fish or vegetable and soup .
I think it is more worth if you eat in this direction :
Meat/seafood → whatever you like (eg. eggs, soup...) → rice/noodles → desserts/fruit (you can eat desserts/fruit before rice/noodles or it can go under "whatever you like" )
Well, gotta love Golden Corral!
That’s cool that the excess from special events is being put to use.
What I've always wondered is do the staff/owners get to take home the food that isn't sold to eat themselves?
That's thievery but most justify by calling it business.
@@carolkendall5051 there was no excess; others paid for the food and should have had the option of take home.

Carbs my friend. The trick to buffets are CARBS.
So very true.
Actually, it would be meat
Any thing but carbs; they are a lousy payout for your fee ( or do you actually manage a buffet ?)

One advantage of AYCE is the abundant variety of items that can accommodate any diet restrictions. Kyro Zoltron where’s the Mac and cheese??🥺
NO FISH AND CHIPS??
That foods got no flavor!
My family loves buffet coz of so many variation of dishes to choose from. And we enjoyed it..
Buffets are so good, especially higher end ones
I feel like I get* my moneys* worth, and I never order soda.
Wha? Did you talk to text??
My kids always know ahead of time to not order soda and I use buy one get one free...sometimes two coupons so I only pay for 2 out of 4 of us. If they try to pull the only one coupon per party we do separate bills

@@GaryFowler2906 Same here.
Start loading your plate with prawns and lobsters if available and leave everything at the end.
Great shot of the Budapest market at 6.54, which incidentally, is definitely worth a visit.
You are one of the best channels for me
At many buffet restaurants they offer a bottomless glass to drink as much soft drink as you can while having your meal; The cost is usually around $3 per glass per diner and you are not allowed to share the glass with anyone else dining with you.
About time we did the same with Verizon, ATT etc for falsely advertising ‘unlimited LTE’ ( US mobile market )
Hi if you’re reading this. Please remember you’re strong and I hope you are having a blessed day!
From a small American youtuber....
That is very cash money of you
wow, I so needed it at a times as this. thank you
Thanks so much. And j hope you have a great day/night too.
Your Alpha Dude hope you enjoy your day too.
hav a good tym too but u dont sound like an american
you are a very clever person I must say. These things were a trade secret until you decided to expose it. lol. good job.
Being a hotelier, buffet is my most dislike form of meal because:
1. The amount of food waste is staggeringly huge
2. 80% of the menu is based on cheap ingredients
3. Chef tends to push the not-so-fresh ingredients as buffet meal
4. Too many carbs
If you can, go for really good buffet Dim Sum.
Funny you say that, because I limit my sodium but often find I have to salt buffet dishes.
Face it, people aren't going to eat overly salty food.
@@bcaye true but watch, if you notice that you drink more than usual while at a buffet place, they have added salt to their food. Fill you up with liquids so you don't eat so much food.
I drink more than I can eat, even while not at a buffet.
Cherity Rebancos never heard about that before (6 years as a chef, both on land and boat with bufféts)
@@licito then maybe you worked with "honorable" companies.
This Voiceover is my favourite one. Who agrees?
+Salwa,
They make a good deal of money with buffet style service.
The markup is much higher than most other types of dining.
A modest percentage of customers that can really eat, will not break the bank at these places.
Salwa
The psychology of "getting my money's worth" at a buffet aligns with the American marketing strategies of "you deserve more" and "you deserve the best" and "you deserve endless choice" that have been so successful here sine the 19th century. Americans are no longer satisfied with a portion size optimal for the average adult and think they are being insulted or cheated if their stomachs are not in pain at the end of a meal. Nearly endless choice and no apparent limits for a seemingly impossibly low price is truly the new American Way and buffets are the perfect reflection of that.
I love your channel , really informative and eye opening 👁 love from India
Same from me!!!
Same here with Mandarin buffet chain.
Depending on the day. From about 12€ on familyday (wednesday) to 18 € on weekends
@@WazZzabi85 Seems kind of middle of the road to me.
Ohhhh, from Sweden . . . that makes sense. I used to live in Japan and they call any buffet "Viking Style."
I never understood why, but now I do.
Not totally true.....i know guests who consumed for 4 hours and got kicked out. Smh
i love my local Chinese buffet (lunch is 12ish dinner is 16ish) i usually fill up with 3 plates (bbq chicken, pork dumplings, some very tasty cheesy bread/seafood thing, broccolli, pepper steak, repeat 3rd plate is mostly sushi) i think i get a great deal outta it and regarding the soda? one can always get plain tap water
Crab legs stay gone in the buffet
because they are very tasty, and do not fill you up. IMHO: LOL
dabby dabby sea food can sometimes make I sick
They also stay gone in women's oversize purses
Im at the buffet waiting for the legs this broad puts all the legs but one on her plate why not take the whole chafing dish so rude
I mean you would have thought they were on clearance at walmart the way she shipped everything up had the nerve to leave me 1
I love all you can eat Buffet places because there is a wide variety of choices of differant foods that i can enjoy and try.
Where?
The sign said: "All the lemonade you can drink for a dime." I paid and had a glass. Then I said "another glass, please." The person said "but you already had a glass, and that's all the lemonade you can drink for a dime."
I remember seeing my local all you can eat China buffet owner getter all their ingredients from Aldi.. that’s a good way to start.
I am the biggest nightmare for all you can eat buffets xD
Right that's why when I go. I get the good expensive stuff. I also eat more than normal because I am getting my money's worth
Wow! You must live in an expensive city. The Asian, country, and Indian buffets here only charge $7 to $10 pp.
