  • Dr. DeWitt D.C. goes in-depth on the movie "Forks Over Knives". I am a HUGE supporter of all that this documentary covers. I must state that I am not affiliated with "Forks Over Knives" in ANY way and this video is only for educational and motivational purposes. A plant-based diet is critical to a healthy life!

Forks over knives was really eye opening for me. To anyone who sees this, and suffers from health problems, take it from me, I used to suffer from hypertension (high blood-pressure), and anxiety attacks. I've since switched my diet from processed foods and animal byproducts to plant based foods, and i don't even need my medicine anymore, i feel more energetic, dont have high blood-pressure, and havent had an anxiety attack since i started eating better. Your diet is everything!

I take issue with his blanket statement that animal based proteins cause cancer. Since being diagnosed with diabetes, I went on a ketogenic diet (NOT ATKINS!!!!) and have eaten more vegetables, cruciferous mostly, than I have ever eaten in my life, to be frank. But that diet incorporates the right kind of meats, like pasture raised eggs (which can be eaten raw), raw butter, and grass fed beef. In two months I have lost 30 lbs, my blood sugar has stabilized, my blood pressure is down from an average of 158/90 to 127/86. I'm off of metformin, refused statin drugs from the get-go because I know they are "the devil" in disguise, I check my blood sugar daily and it comes in under 100 even after meals. And best of all, since starting keto, I have weened myself off of Zoloft (the worst drug I have ever taken - an 8 year prison sentence of emotion suppressors) and only need my BP meds when I'm having an incredibly stressful day at work.
So I guess my question is this: If animal products are so bad, why have they done so much good for me when eaten on a balanced diet? Virtually every blood test, even A1C is coming back into normal ranges quickly, 145 to 131 since being diagnosed 2 months ago (still have a ways to go). Its all about moderation folks. Eat healthy fats, healthy proteins, YES ANIMAL BASED & vegetable based, and most importantly - *cut out sugar and caffeine*. I can speak from my own personal experience. Keto works. I'm not saying going vegan doesn't work, but I AM saying does keto work. You just need to eat the right foods for your body type.
Sorry if this pisses some people off, but when it comes to health, there are many pathways to the same place. Everyone has a different body type and would do well to research your own body type, and tailor your health plan to your body type - specifically to address and eliminate the core of where disease in your body is rooted. In my case, a fatty liver from years of terrible food choices. My body type is a "liver body type" (search for the 4 body types if interested). My best path (for me personally) is eating mostly vegetables, but I'm not going to knock keto because it works. You can be 70% vegan / 30% carnivore, and still do keto. I say cutting out ALL meats or all veggies - one or the other, is the worst choice of all. You need both and human beings have always thrived on both. Remember that.

Furthermore, our brains are made up almost entirely out of cholesterol. If you don't believe me, look into yourself. Our brains are made up almost entirely out of cholesterol. The best brain food is two fold - ANIMAL : Cholesterol from the yolks of raw eggs from pasture raised chickens (if some people are squeamish about raw, then slightly poached is ok). PLANT : triglycerides from coconut oil. YOU NEED BOTH.

God as Love/Universal Source of Energy/Universal Consciousness is real: but you're right, the character dubbed "God" in the bible (who condoned/approved, commanded or committed acts of racism, sexism/misogyny, slavery and taking sex slaves (and thereby rape since it's against their will), heterosexism, nationalism/jingoism, speciesism, lying, theft, incest and genocide) is not what Love is. The "god" of the bible is a construct created by nutjobs. Constantine and his financial backer Eusebius put together these stories at the Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D., more than 325 years after this mythological character jesus' alleged birth and death (which his attributes are attributed to at least 6 other religious "deities" of the time.). Constantine decided what would become the state religion, the god everyone would worship, and burned other religious books.
Constantine, Eusebius and other religious men sought political, social and monetary power and control. Constantine used the sign of the cross as his excuse to invade and murder other nations, and he murdered his own wife and son, if that tells you anything about his character. It should.
The stories of the bible were written down only after hundreds of years of oral tradition, and these word of mouth stories were passed on by thousands of people to one another, edited and rewritten thousands of times. Ever play the Telephone Game? What were the results, and why would anyone think the "bibles" are going to be any different?
The bible is riddled with scientific impossibilities, absurdities, amoral teachings (supposedly approved by God) and contradictions; how anyone who has ever played The Telephone Game (where you sit in a circle and whisper one sentence to one person in the circle, which comes back around to the original person and is NEVER the same) can take the bible as a historically credible book which is based on hundreds of years of oral tradition, much less argue about the true meaning of individual words that happen to have been chosen in it (in whichever version they've decided is legit), is beyond me.
Please look to www.skepticsannotatedbible.com and peruse through all the tabs on the right. Keep reading the "Absurdities" tab until you get a belly laugh. The bible is comic gold.

I am no troll, simply an individual investigating this lifestyle and finding it lacking. The funny part is referring to these observations as "studies". A true scientific study is done under controlled conditions to eliminate a large number of variables, and then try to come to scientific conclusions.
Calling someone a troll just because they do not agree with your position is itself being a troll, so why don't you go away, and come back when you have something constructive to add.

I told mom at 4 yo that my gut hurt. 55 years later, I had a 20% of seeing xmas 2013. My undiagnosed dairy allergy totally destroyed my health to the point of now having an intolerance to gluten and nightshade foods. I was breastfed for my 1st 3 mos, then given cows milk. Now I have major bone loss, am now and have always been severely underweight. I found a functional dr and radically changed my diet. It's 2018 and while I don't think I'll ever see myself living to 70, I am very grateful to have seen xmas 2018. My family is very supportive of my plant based diet and juicing. What I don't like is when ppl say "What's left for you to eat?" People have no idea that plants are protein, that fruits, veggies, nuts, beans and rice are all we need. I eat very little sugar, no soda Ever..hate soda, always have. I try really hard to lead a 'normal' life despite my restrictions. Love to all who read this.

In that time I went from 210 to 205. With the amount of crap food that I was eating and daily beer, I thought that I was going to drop a ton off right away before hitting a plateau. Granted, I haven't been working out while I made the switch but isn't food 80% of it?

I don't think eating meat makes a body acidic. Being mineral deficient does, so then the body does leech calcium and other minerals from bones and wherever it needs it. I'm not saying heavy meat consumption is good, I'm saying the whole alkaline acidic thing is not properly understood. Check Dr. Reams's method of testing pH.

also another point thats worth making is that the milk and cows in the 1900's was completely different then now. Right now the cows are what has been called frankenstein cows that are genetically modified cows basically designed to produce maximum amount of milk. they produce 3 times more milk and they have to turn them into diseased animals. So we know that a human mother with disease gives poor quality or even dangerous milk thats why we tell mothers not to have toxic foods or heavy metals but we allow our population to drink this toxic milk and eat these toxic animals that have to be on antibiotics all the time and fed hormones. they also eat a non grass diet and don't move around a lot. Aside from that the milk is pasturized killing all beneficial enzymes and homogenized which denatures the fats. So when we do all these things to natural foods so we can keep them longer without getting bad. It really takes away all the nutrients and can make the food toxic. This can be seen with wheat, table salt, and others...
For animal products to cause heart disease and cancer and weak bones then how come the skelletons of big meat eaters such as the eskimos are so thick and strong. Like their skulls are thicker, there teeth are good too. Also many researchers have studied them Norweigans, weston price and others. None have found any cases of heart disease among natural Eskimos eating their traditional diet.
It is important not to over eat meat but to avoid it will lead to weakness and lack of reproductivity in most or all people. People like Ghandi and the Dali Lama desperately tried and failed.

Have a few issues with this information... Certainly eat veg but exclude any grains, carbohydrates, soya beans anything GMO, eat no sucrose or aspartame etc which are neuro toxins and sugar feeds cancers. We are humans, and need good organic grassfed meat with no antibiotics or vaccines, raw full fat milk, apart from blue cheese which has gluten in, cheese, fish, eggs, wild game, cruciferous veg onions, take magnesium supplement, eat fermented food get out in the sun and take vit d supplements in winter, exercise, drink good water and make kefir for your gut microbiome, cholesterol is good for us it protects the heart, and makes hormones, eat good fats like lard, tallow, beef dripping, grass fed butter, extra virgin olive oil for your brain, not rapeseed oil/canola. Occasionally dark 85% chocolate, glass of red wine. Everyday breathe deeply to alkanise your body... find out for yourself there is so much for gut and mind to be healthy, not pills potions statins etc.

07:35 the reason behind the boom in cancer isn't due to casein, but rather the increase in polyunsaturated fatty acids that are high in hydrogenated vegetable oils, like corn, sunflower, safflower and more. The long chain omega 6's and omega 3's are unstable, therefore omega 3 oils require darkness and cold environment in order not to cause free radicals to be produced. Omega 6's produce free radicals as well, and has been found in a Canadian study to produce the highest oxidation in mitochondria

The best way to develop a lean body and long term health is by switching to a high carb, low fat, vegan diet with light exercise. Carbs will not make you fat, this is a myth. What causes you to be fat are foods that are high in fat. Cut out all the meat and dairy and the fat will fall off your body. Eat as many fruit, vegetables, and high carb foods as you want. Restrict the amount high fat foods you eat. This is the key to sustainable long term health and fitness. Thanks for reading.

it is easy to scare people by showing people who have had surgery and compare them to vegetables. It isn't true that if you eat meat you will get diseases or the less you eat. All those cultures had meat or meat products there are no groups of people out there that eat no meat. That is an important note to make. It has been found that the healthiest people eat meat around 3 times a week and have dairy products. There isn't enough plant food out there to feed people and nourish people. People can't find all their nutrients in grains they have to have dairy and the occasional meat. They also ate the whole animal. Bone broths are huge in chinese cultures, japanese, korean, africans too. So you don't need big portions of meat thats bad but you do need some animal foods including things like dairy, organ meats and bone broths and fermented foods.

It simplily doesn't make sense for everyone to eat lots of meals that don't keep you full not satisfying your hunger craving. Why go after non nutrient dense foods? The healthiest people in the world include some portion of animal foods thats a fact.
You say you are healthy but tell me about yourself how long have you been vegan? You must have daily sun exposure to have a chance unless you want to rely on vitaminD supplements the rest of your life.
I know myself many exvegans. some quit because they felt malnoursihed (even though they are food experts doing as right as they could) and 2 others i know had liver/gallbladder/skin problems one almost lost her life. That was after 4-6 years veganism. Also my nutritionist i didn't include her she said herself that she was perfectly healthy in the beginning but after veganism she damaged her health now she includes dairy and meat. its fine being a bit stubborn but eventually natures laws are enforced no matter how much science there is. just look at the way we are trying to manipulate soils with thousands of different pesticides and cows with different diets and drugs but nature still finds ways to trump our most extreme efforts to reconstruct her design of life and how it works.
I challenge you to see how long you could live vegan without the use of imported foods. I have my cows and local fruits and veggies i grow in my back yard and fish i could theoretically get from the nearby waters. thats nutrients 100%. You see thats natures design that people can live and survive anywhere because of foods that are in the area and that includes animal foods. Don't think by you can fool nature and import foods and cheat the way nature works. Those foods are picked unripe and often are not as vital when they make it here, also act in our bodies different when eaten out of season and then you still don't get many nutrients found in animal foods. Like for sure vitamin D + dietary cholesterol and no direct vitamin A (not everyone converts it well specially in not optimal health conditions) and many more like bioavliable zinc, magnesium, calcium gotto avoid anti nutrients ect...i don't want to come across as cocky but I'm saying this for the best health of people and to spark debate. if you are healthy vegan then thats great i just see all this information and experiences (my own almost 2 month vegan experience and friends that near died) so i feel like it definetly can't be good for most people.

    • @DaveWhitmore421

I have to admit I have only went vegetarian two weeks ago and I've only been vegan for a few days. I've done my research and I follow a lot of vegans on Twitter and on google. I also personally know someone who's been vegan for three years. I admit it's probably not for everyone. I already feel better since cutting out all animal products. I've lost 3pounds in less than a week, I feel more energy and I have no feelings of bloatedness or discomfort like I often used to feel after eating meat. Even after all you said do you agree that people could at least cut down on their meat intake and probably dairy too? I became vegan for ethical reasons. I'm in it for the long term for health reasons too. For everyone who has bad experiences going vegan there appears to be more who are thriving.

    • @vahemegerdoonian2652

      Dave Whitmore
I wrote a great comprehensive response to this then suddenly my windows update popped up I pressed enter and restarted my computer:( lol Let me try to do this again...
That's really good that your doing your research and experimenting different diets with an open mind. That way you will be safe and your instincts and logic together will eventually gear you towards the right choices. I think cutting down on meat intake is good but I won't necessarily say the same about dairy. You only need meat 1-3 times a week the least once every 10 days for optimal health. And when you have meat you should include the whole animal not just the lean meats. Eat the real nutrients that your looking for like bones into bone broth(great for healing gut), fatty meats around joints and bones, organ meats, bone marrow ect... Eat ONLY organic grassfed or pasture raised animals. This is key. nature doesn't allow you to pervert the system and get away with it. They need to be eating their natural diets as we need to eat our natural diets. they don't get what they need from grain and that's why they get sick and need antibiotics(sound familiar?) and also non organic cows get pumped full of hormones and are stressed to produce 3 times more milk. This is terrible for the health of the animal and those who consume the animal.
As far as dairy if you can't come across raw dairy through a cow share you should just focus on butter/ghee from grassfed organic cows and also if you at the moment can digest raw cheese from the store. I have IBS and dairy allergy and I digest raw cheese and raw diary very well almost no symptoms at all. Also I've done various cleanses, probiotics and heavy metal detox so that could have also helped but if I have pasteurized milk it makes me feel terrible. This is because the body has a very tough time assimilating pasteurized dairy products all the enzymes are destroyed. If you have pasteurized butter its not really that bad just not as good but if you only have a choice of pasteurized non butter dairy products I would avoid them! I would recommend keeping dairy and/or eggs in your diet if you want to go light on meat. You don't need dairy but dairy is a very useful because of the fats and minerals plus loads of enzymes really a living food in raw form.
First I would have to ask what are your health goals?
Do you need to lose weight? are you full of toxins do you need to detox or cleanse?
Vegan diets are good short term for cleansing but eventually your stores of fat soluble vitamins will run out. Depends if you need nourishment or cleansing raw vegan is great cleansing but make sure you have coconut oil and don't over do it after a month or two you will lose weight and feel light then go back to eating some animal products.
For a long term diet that I think is healthy and highly ethical these are my suggestions.
MEAT- meat 1-3 times a week make sure to have some organ meats and broths(wine or apple cider added to release minerals from bones at least 1-2 days on stove )
Grains- Don't need grains but can be good, specially when eating less meat and dairy. Have only grains that are fermented(home made is best no yeast just bacteria culture and days to ferment), if white flour make sure it is non bleached but best to use other rye or something else if you can handle the taste differences have a lot of good fat like coconut oil and butter/ghee with your grains this will help prevent spikes in blood sugar. Don't limit the butter, ghee and coconut oil you really can't over do it as long as it tastes good. You can over due processed foods because they are addicting. Also on grains it depends on your ability to digest complex carbs. Some people need to restore gut flora and heal gut linning to be able to eat grains again without digestive symptoms. check GAPS protocol www.gapsdiet.com/Resources.html
Foods like squash, sweet potatos, yams are good substitutes.
Dairy- like I said earlier grassfed organic raw if not raw you can have butter. Have butter liberally. If you don't consume much diary like raw cheese, milk, sour cream and yoghurt. Then you should do your best to replace these foods by having things like sauerkraut, nuts/veggies/herbs for minerals, coconut oil and butter for fats, bone broths is great substitute for milk. Of coarse you can do well without all dairy butter included but this will make you need to lean more towards animal foods like bone broths and meat in my opinion. Raw milk is also a good source of protein.
Vegetables- Lots of vegetables are preferred for optimal health but raw may not be always best. Sometimes raw can be tough to digest if your digestive system has been damaged. in any case it is more preferable to have then cooked or steamed in winter months when your body craves warmer foods. Cooked veggies in soups or bone broth is much more nourishing, sure you lose enzymes but you gain in other ways and get plenty of enzymes from raw dairy and sauerkraut. if you want to lightly steam veggies with butter and salt is a good idea. I have read that butter also aids the uptake of nutrients in the vegetables. Vegetables are great but not essential so don't freak out if you don't want to eat them just make sure you get all your must have nutrients vitamin A,B,C,D,E,K, essential fats, essential proteins, minerals and trace minerals. Oh yeah and avoid soy like the plague. Maybe a bit of organic fermented soy like Natto is okay from time to time.
Drinks. don't have cold drinks. have drinks at room temperature of warm teas. specially when eating. and if you drink a lot when you eat you dilute stomach acids causing burping.
That's all I can think of now. I am really interested in diets. I don't agree there are more thriving then having trouble. I think everyone will eventually run into trouble on a vegan diet specially when giving birth and giving milk after birth. When you give birth you need a lot of fat soluble vitamins and minerals so best foods are fish eggs, organ meats and raw milk..maybe 1-10 actually do good on a vegan diet longer term if they have a good gut flora/immune system (not using antibiotics, eat probiotics, no candida digestive issues), are living around the equator where there is a lot of sun and eating fruits and raw veggies year round is more natural plus their bodies/genes could be more adapted to more non animal foods like fruits and veggies and different root veggies.
      All the best Dave!
      Vahe

    • @DaveWhitmore421
      @DaveWhitmore421 10 лет назад

Hi Vahe, thank you for all your suggestions. I'm sorry you had to write it out twice lol.
As far as reasons, call them ethical. I'm an animal lover. I've seen horrific video footage of how pigs and cows are slaughtered. I don't agree with this at all. I've also seen the way cows are treated for their milk. It was enough to make me realize I want no part in either industry. I'm doing my research. I've seen studies that suggest you can live a very healthy life on a vegan diet. As long as you make sure you get enough nutrients. I've seen studies that suggest animal protein is the worst sort of protein for the human body. You can get all the nutrients you need from vegetables, fruits and grains. I'm/going into this with my eyes wide open. I follow a lot of vegans on Twitter and Google+. Most of them are doing great. If I have any issues I have a lot of people I can talk to and get advice from. I don't really have any digestion issues so I'm hopeful I can go the distance on this. This is something I feel strongly about. I will take your comments on board and if any serious health issues do arise in the future then I will bear in mind what you said. But I have no intention of consuming any animal products for the rest of my life.

Not as far as there toxicity. But remember meat has an acidifying effect on the body. Not good. Also, although technically a calorie is a calorie, it isn't as easy for your body to use a calorie of meat as it is for it to use a calorie of fresh greens.

Your anger alone makes you sound biased. Why are we omnivores? Who says?I have never had the urge to kill a cow and eat it, a lion will hunt naturally through instinct. When we go to a store we pick from things that have been done for us. I eat meat but The point of this study is to open the eyes to those who have completely disregarded vegetables from their diet.

The use of the term plan foods is deceptive. So by plant foods I assume that they mean GM soy and corn, and super gluten modern wheat covered in pesticides, and sugar to boot? Of course not, but these are all plant foods, and they are not Kale. Not all plant foods are healthy, especially once the food industry works them over, and destroys them. This term of Plant Foods as being the solution to everything sounds like more vegan advocacy to me.

    • @Aeghamedic
      @Aeghamedic 9 лет назад +4

*Whole food* plant-based diet disqualifies things like sugar. Sugar isn't a whole food.
You don't have to eat GM soy and corn if you don't want to. You don't have to eat wheat. Most plants aren't GM soy, GM corn, and wheat. I would argue that a majority of plants aren't soy, corn, or wheat.

kaunas888 That statement is beside the point that plant foods ( in their normal, non-tinkered form ) ARE healthier than meat or dairy. Corn, sugar, soy etc, are just a small portion of plant foods available. The same people that run the factory farms also push GMO and aspartame, etc, on the public. Your statement is just a poor attempt at 'well poisoning', at best.

Went Vegan four months ago. It would be nice if the dairy industry fucks would stop sneaking shit into food that seems like it would be vegan lol. My only real complaint. i've been tricked a few times into eating something that was "vegetarian". since going Vegan i've lost 35+ pounds. Just a FYI you can be unhealthy as a Vegan, try to limit the salty carb snacks and processed foods. I tend to make a lot of soups and stews made from fresh veggies and beans.

You have to eat real food, taste buds are for a reason: salty taste: electrolytes, sweet: carbohydrates, sour: vitamin c, bitter: posion. Eat as much grassfed/free range meat/eggs/dairy/butter as you want, as well as ripe fruits.

I found this video so annoying. First the man, (John DeWitt), talking kept looking over at the board and we saw his profile with 1/4 of the board showing.. The board was not shown long enough to read when it was shown completely. He kept saying, "we'll get into that later" ,,, when?? Lastly, the lady COUGHING in the background should have been removed from the room.

Interesting. Eating Healthy should always be a fact. But The presentation did not point more info on the facts against meat and studies. If you do eat way too much of anything its bad period. Yes over eating meat of course is really bad. Eating vegatables of course is very good. Eating too much processed foods and Unatural food chemicals are Bad. It all depends on a persons diet to eat healthy.

  • @RoyalSnowbird

This presentation would be far more effective if you kept the camera on the screen more and longer than on the presenter. I would even suggest keeping the camera on the screen ALL the time and have the presenter be the 'narrator' and give the extra info as we look at the slides. . .
