    One of the easier of the Bonham patterns - killer none the less... and you can really get into thrashing that beat if you want. Loved it thanks Mike.

    These are very helpful videos-- they don't intimidate the novice with giant kits and extra showboating-- they walk you through gently and with humor. Well done.

    Thanks so much!
    How you count this was a breakthrough for me just now. Ive been trying to learn this from muscle memory i guess, but can never get the hats to sync right. Always end up throwing aome extras in. I couldn't figure out how to count it!
    One And Ah
    Two E And Ah
    That makes it ao easy. Chunking it like that seems so obvious i know, but when you are new and don't understand WHAT to count on 16th patterns, it's a challenge me. Well, plus im old 😂.
    Trying to count 1e&a2e&a3e&a4e&a is impossible at this speed, while trying to remember what to hit on each one.
    Now to get my speed up!!! 🤯
    Or to get the band to play at about 80% 😂

      Cheers! That's the great thing about counting - it allows us to see note-by-note what we're actually aiming for, to truly learn the thing at slow speed. I'm always amazed how many drummers try to miss this stage out, then claim they're "struggling" with something they've never truly attempted to learn properly. Glad you dig. For me, once the pattern is established at slow speed and we start to get faster, we shouldn't need to count as much, or indeed at all once we're playing smoothly at full speed (usually after many repetitions) - it's our second nature/in our "muscle memory" by then. Cheers.

      Really not that hard if you’ve been into any Zeppelin shit! All these notations, Anna two and a one and a two and blah blah blah I’m sure you can figure that out. Doesn’t have to be perfect. Just listen to the song.

    My comment may be a bit delayed but will be much appreciated if you answer. I wonder what technique do you use in your kick drum, because I tried many and couldn’t achieve the right speed as my leg was getting numb. Thank you

    As a drummer since the 70's, Bonzo will teach you many sweet beats...He was a drummer's drummer...Like Neil Peart...They're so fun to play along with in our practice rooms...I cut my teeth with Carl Palmer, which really prepared me to handle those drummers better... But "How to play" is a misnomer; These are world class apex drummers. It takes MANY hours of practice to even come close to playing the Immigrant song or In My Time of Dying or Out On the Tiles..Three of my Bonzo favorite drum jams...

    Very fair point mike ,considering my point was a bit unfair , have you ever heard of a swiss drummer called charlie antolini in his 80s now but was still playing shit hot on his last videos , if you have not seen the film on ginger baker yet you must its called beware mr baker free on you tube thanks for prompt reply mike , I shouldnt have blamed you and your varied content because others do nothing but bonham i realised this about half a minute after sending commen,t great channel mike from phil in merseyside

    You tube drummers can we please do something else now ? the progress of world drumming is getting bogged down with Bonham

      @MikeBarnesDrums  2 года назад +1

      Ha, thanks for watching Philip. I've made 1,167 videos on this channel at time of writing, the majority of them don't mention John Bonham! Also, RUclips tells me that of the last ten videos I've posted, this is by far the most popular. Your audience tells you what they want! And I'm aware plenty of young/new drummers watch this channel and may be meeting this groove or Bonham's stuff for the first time. Anyway cheers for watching and for the feedback :)

    It is so hard to make the bass drum go between the hi hat, since sometimes I end up mimicking the bass drum pattern with my hi hat...

      My best advice: start SLOW - program it into your nervous system one event at a time, like I describe here when going slow - say the events out loud if you have to. The only priority at first is to simply show your brain, hand and feet the right events in the right order. And then build it bit-by-bit. My experience is that most drummers simply don't do this, they just try to play it at faster tempos and declare it to be "hard". You have to earn it.
