It's no wonder the collective didn't come to the right decision after that.

The annoying thing is that often enough, it' comes down to luck. Basically, for any team other than Merc and Red Bull to win a GP, it needs a serious f*** up from those teams to create the opportunity. This year, Ocon got that opportunity because of the massive f*** up from Bottas that removed him and both Red Bulls from the race in addition to the massive f*** up from Merc to not pit Hamilton. Perez won because of an unforeseeable tyre failure on Max's side and a serious f*** up for Hamilton during the restart. Lando was consistently very close behind both the Mercedes and Red Bull drivers this season and in terms of points, he's the only one that fights those drivers in the standings. (Well, Bottas and Perez at least)
Norris got the opportunity because Max & Bottas engine changes, and Perez and Hamiltons (or their teams) mistakes during quality. But in the end, for Norris to get a similar opportunity again it will need a similar f*** up from the front two teams. And with 6 / 7 teams, you need to be lucky.
Also, just a side note: Hungary showed that when disaster strikes, it's often not just the leading cars that for some reason are no longer in the position to go for the GP win. This usually happens when it's rainy or when stuff like tyre failures are a thing. And in these cases it's basically a matter of luck of Lando (or whoever has the best chances of winning after the 2 leading teams) will stay unaffected from the disaster as well. In Hungary, both Ricardo and Lando were taken out of the picture as well.
TL;DR: While Lando totally deserves a win, whether or not the opportunity arrives is a matter of luck. So I wouldn't make calls like he'll get a win this season. He has very good (if not the best) chances to win a race without a Red Bull or Mercedes car. But that's not saying that he will. Sadly.

Gutted for Lando, this will sting and it should. The best lessons come from the stingers - invaluable experience for next time.
Well done to Daniel, it was still a solid race from him. Guy never complains, even with a slow pit that cost him a good position there was no radio chatter or complaints put back on the team. Just puts it on his shoulders. Would love to see Dan with some great moments to mentor Lando through this, as i‘m sure he will as a good team mate. Thanks for the unboxed!! 🧡🧡

I'm watching F1 for more than 20 years now and this was the first time when I was actually crying after a race. For good 10-15 minutes I didn't even feel like watching F1 ever again. Then obviously I calmed down and now I'm soooooo excited to see many more double podiums and Lando's first win. 🧡

Seeing Lando and Lewis talking at the end there made me happy. Lewis obviously celebrated his 100th win but im sure he looked kinda sad for Lando as well... Lewis' radio comms as he crosses the line also confirms it, he was obviously happy for himself but it seems like he was going to accept the fact that Lando was going to win this race as well. The time will definitely come, McLaren! Even sooner than later I would say. Lando definitely keeping up good pace and he is getting more and more persistant as races pass.

This video encapsulates the highs and lows of Formula One like nothing else I've seen. Thanks again McLaren for taking us to work with you. Daniel "Monza" Ricciardo has a nice ring to it. And Lando's time will come, he's GOAT in the making. Verstappen, Russell, Norris, and Leclerc, the next couple of years are going to be very interesting for the sport. Keep your head up Lando, your time will come. Bittersweet for sure, I was elated for Lewis and gutted for Lando, Sochi hit different.

Congratulations to Daniel for finishing 4th. But what happened to Lando is so frustrating ! It was his GP, his moment, and his victory he deserved it so much, more deserving than him there was not !
