My experience playing DDs was: I would try to counter the enemy DD, we'd spot each other, and my team would farm damage on the enemy BBs while I'd get focused and either have to disengage or just die immediately, and then if I survived I wouldn't have the hp to even attempt to counter. Eventually I just quit playing DDs even though they were my favorite class
As a dd main who finally decided to play and unlock other lines after getting all the tech tree dd ships I have to say that it's rough to see how many dd players don't do what they should spotting and watching the mini map to try to help their team as needed. So many just play solo and sorta lost about what they're supposed to be doing. Hoping this is just a short phase but it has been noticeable as of late.
I played a naval MMO long ago where you could pick your spawn position during the countdown. you could even see how the enemy sets up and react, which ofc became a game of chicken and last millisecond position changes... ppl coodinated AA cover and dedicated ASW had a chance to find the subs. tbf, both AA and ASW worked for that game, so that actually mattered...
That could easily be solved by giving everyone a queue, when it's their time give them 5 sec window to chose their spawn (if they don't use it they get a random position)
@ yup. I'm still disappointed we never got a good evolution on the concepts and how brutally they milked it at the end. (it's still alive, btw. but dunno which state)
Damn funny how bad DD players cripple whole team. One thing is being careful, other to never spot and just care for own little damage from far away and not big damage from close after enemy DD is dealt with.
I've had the opposite problem as well. As a dd I'm out spotting and taking all the risk and my whole team is out of position and hiding behind islands. They expected the two dds to push into radar cruisers to get a cap while never taking out the radar for their dds. If you're in a BB, your #1 goal should be killing radar cruisers first. This frees up the dds to push caps and spot more easily.
@@nate7051 Game without CVs and Subs is already great for a DD. Only obstacle are enemy DDs then. And if there is just one radar cruiser as in this match, it is great. And if there are just 2 bases caps, you have free reign. As a DD you keep track of radar cruisers. And this one was far away all the time. Only danger for Lushun was Yueyang. That does not mean he should be afraid of it. He should be between his and enemy ships to spot torpedos which can not even hurt him in this case (deepwater) but are hard to spot for his allies and to check enemy DD. Whole flank could not push because of one enemy DD that kept them at bay while their DD was camping on the edge of map. There is nothing worse than afraid DD player. That class is for daring players. High risk and high reward. Therefore, having bad DD player (too afraid or suicider, 2 extremes) is terrible for whole team.
Right, too many times BB players sit way too far back and don't support the DD spotting. It's that magical line, you can watch at the start of the match and tell which team is going to start losing first from the displacement. Sometimes you see a comeback because of skill or over extending, but the early half of the game is always decided by which team has better placement.
@@psmith6166 Also which team shoots enemy dds and which does not. When playing a dd I can tell after the first 5 minutes which team will win the match with quite a high chance.
I wish WG can make a new "How it works" for map spawning? I would like to know the WG game mechanics behind opening spawn selection before the battle starts. For example, why are ship map spawns are so close to other team mates? Such as either AFK players or poor turn radius ships interfering with opening moves. Why are all radar ships on one side of the map (port or starboard) for the team on spawn instead of balanced over the map on spawn? Why are DD's, CA's, or BB's not balanced (port or starboard) on deployment? It appears they are all slanted in their deployment instead of spread out on the map for spawn deployment. Inquiring minds want to know. 🤔
Most often I'm not angry about bad players, but I'm angy about bad players every time when they keep ignoring any reasonable request by their teammates.
This is a plague seen hundreds of times worse on the Legends client, unfortunately. I personally think it's because on Legends we don't even have trackers on screen for potential damage and spotting damage so 9 times out of 10 people don't even realize what their true role is in a match and only see that big damage number at the top of the screen or those kill ribbons pop up... Same is true for the AAR not making the biggest exp factor the biggest thing on screen instead of damage and ribbons being what you see. If in game DDs got shown that their spotting damage and cap contests were giving them the biggest amount of XP and BBs were shown that their potential damage was what was giving them the biggest amount of exp then maybe players could understand their roles per class better. But all people see at any given time is that more damage, and Kills results in more exp. That and all anyone ever wants to glorify on YT is big damage / big kill games. Not doing the right things for the right reasons necessarily...
Hey Flambass! Don't flame my poor Elbing! I (Coop main) once stumbled in Randoms with her and proceeded to torp out a shima using RPF skill, then I was free to cap and spot. We eventually won the game. Very proud of it!
Watching G4ng’s vids really helped my perspective of DD play. Farm only when there’s nothing better to do. Although, to be fair, some people just like afk HE spamming/torping, even when it’s suboptimal and not winning games. That’s the nature of randoms.
The spawn change is a REAL Problem...and contributes to fast blowouts. In the old days, how could a match be over in 5 minutes, if it took 5 minutes to get into position.
My problem as a casual on/off player over the years is there's no good way to learn and practice. I know I suck at the game, but low tier doesn't teach you what you need to learn for mid-high tier play, and neither do bots. The only way to attempt to learn is by effectively ruining other peoples' games, and everything is tuned for super fast games now as well, so it's queue up, make one mistake and die in 4 minutes, and hope to learn from that? Effectively? I know I'm the problem, I just don't see a realistic and practical way forward. Idk why I downloaded WoWS and WoT again...
Not only pick your spawn, but also pick your game mode. Choose as the player to take part in surface only battles but if you are a masochist choose to play with subs and CV's, if you do you get as a surface ship buffs to your anti sub and AA, make the CV's and Subs work much harder to get kills and make it more costly in lost planes, make them have to comit all planes in a squadron to an attack rather than the current Chicken **** tactic of returning half your planes with a drop over open water, or give the CV a set maximum of ordinance and when its gone its gone. The aim should be to return fun to the game for the majority of the player base. Yeah I know fun and WoW's in the same sentence. It's what happens when you forget what the prime motive is for people playing your game!!!!
Agreed, (Free playing 5+ yrs) light cruisers are almost unplayable. I still try but its mostly perma-spot running, because they don't know how to deal with subs or the cl/dd thing. I am actually having the most fun going old school DD (8kmYugo) Spotting and hunting those same DD's. But I have had games as the only spotting DD where everyone decides to go to the opposite flank. Seriously, WTF! No class is safe, the bad play is in all classes, because the gimmicks are in all classes. Most people don't play enough to be competent with the mess. That's why we call them Bots.
Nah you are right, That Lushun was hugging the left side of the map for the first ten minutes of the match, utterly useless. Then next ten minutes he was chasing the BBs in their spawn, equally useless. Zero map awareness. Its why I stopped playing ships so long ago. It is just to hard to make matches work when you have to fight the enemy and your own team too, maybe thats just the NA server though. But I enjoy your content.
I think you should have pushed earlier towards the end, 2 minutes is not too much time. And the Gearing was there the entire time probably, went AFK (190 xp at the end shows that). Too bad you didn´t push it and kill it earlier, would have been interesting. But playing without DDs when enemies have them on such a map is not great.
Sir, I have never put down a comment on your vids before. But I have watched quite a few. Most players do not even come close to you when playing a DD. I have to say you are good at playing them. So could you give us BB players, who are your primary victims a break. We are forced to play DD's on occasion for missions. Thanks for your insight tho. Makes us better.
Flambass again putting blame on someone else. The enemy Yueyang sank 1 ship, not 'ships'; Lushan sank 1 ship, FB 0; FB failing to focus Fite and taking out 0 ships. Ships were spotted all throughout the battle. How about the rest of your fleet not sinking a ship? Don't look at battle results screen, scroll your mouse and 'oops, this guy is responsible. 👎
Are we watching the same video? Do you even play DD? Friendly Lushun busy farming BBs for like 7 minutes instead of hunting the YYs ass. Look at all the friendly BBs in the beginning, clustered on west flank cannot push because the DD fukin refuses to hunt enemy torp DD
Maybe FB could have played better, but this DD was a problem - when you are spotted most of the time, you cannot safely maneuver and it is hard to use terrain cover at these maps. Even bigger problem is the presence of enemies DD that you know is there (you are spotted) but have zero idea about where it is and/or where it is heading towards. You cannot disengage easily if pushing in, you cannot maneuver much etc. By mere presence of enemy DD enemies can do all this, hence their survival. And that XP amount of enemy DD shows he did his job right.
Not really they did this because the console version of game started out like this you spawn one side you should fight there but people will still lemon train to 1 side
