Yes, and then some naiive car enthusiasts go on about how a Veyron etc. could outrun an F1 car. An F1 car is basically a fighter jet that's stuck to the ground and piloted by a specialist. There is no comparison with ANY road car, no matter how fast the road car is.
They are absolutely NOT going as fast as possible. They are going as fast as FIA wants them to, which is quite a bit slower than what they are capable of, it's the whole point of the safety car: to slow down the race to give marshalls time to do their thing. F1 drivers can whine all they want, but it has to be done. If the safety car was allowed to go all out, it would be able to somewhat keep up with an F1 car. It still wouldn't be quite as fast, and it would gradually fall behind as F1s *are* dedicated speed machines and not just fast sport cars, but it wouldn't be "their best is F1's worst" kind of thing.
I think it is very impressive that he is doing this for 18 years often in very hard conditions pushing really hard and never crashed out or made major mistakes. 700 laps is not a joke and it is not hard to spin out in wet conditions with car like this so hats off for Bernd that he kept his focus for so long.

There must be a window on the TV-screen for the Safety Car with throttle, brakes and g-forces like at the race cars, so you could realize how fast he is really going!
You could tell that this guy is very humble. To be able to drive on the same track as the greats such as Schumacher must be an amazing experience yet you can't feel that this guy is even trying to brag.
F1 is a ginormous franchise and safety-car driver is such a critical job for a single person to deal with, it just blows my mind that the position has been held by a single man for 23 years now. Absolute legend.
The Mercedes-AMG GT S is a supercar with a 4.0L biturbo V8 with 503 horsepower and a 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. It being able to lead a Formula 1 race, ahead of 20 cars, 18 of which can make a Koenigsegg Agera RS seem like a Honda CR-V, _(Yes, I excluded you, McLaren-Honda because you can barely keep up with a Toyota Pr*us)_ is normal as it’s a safety car.

I think there were one or two Safety Car incidents when he was at the wheel, but it's negligible compared to his overall performance over the years.
When Lewis retires, put him in the Safety Car for one race, so all the drivers get to moan at HIM for ‘not going fast enough’.

FuriousFunghi We became used to F1's speed, that's why everything feels slower, also not having reference points and telemetry doesn't help that much.
I remember the Porsche GT2 safety car from 1995.....that looked awesome at the front of an F1 field.
