The Vätternrundan is one amazing ride and an extremely well-organised event. I usually don't go for mass ride events, but the Vätternrundan though it was 20 000 riders never felt like it was overcrowded and the atmosphere was fantastic.
Just signed up for Vatternrundan 2020!, thanks to your introduction to the ride here!, never done more than 110kms (in one go?) so far!....gotta get training!, any tips greatly accepted!. Rob & Nicki
Book hotel or room, camping nearby in good time. Prices tend to rise dramatically. There are plenty of alternatives further away, but be aware that the police is very strict and make roadstops after the race. They will have your time and number, and they take it very seriously if you drive your car within 6 hours of finishingtime. If you are a decent rider 25 kmh+ you would like an early start say 04:00. In this way you will enjoy the entire ride in dayligt, and avoid accidents if you drive very cose in groups with 'amateurs' who are not used to drive in faster groups.Eat an drink a little all the way - don't wait untill you are thirsty, otherwise you may hit the wall around 200 km. The route is relatively flat with no steep climbs. approx 1500s of elevation. Typically there is headwind going the first 100 km towards Jönnköping. It pays off to gowith a group, even if it is a little to fast for you. After 200 km. You will be blessed passing by a small church. Enjoy your ride.
Great documentary, Vätternrundan is something special, the lake is huge, never done that, though. I have done 3x Tour de Helsinki, which was 140km, so the Vättern is about double longer. Looking forward for the part 2. Br Kenneth Ps Sauna is also pretty much a Finnish thing :) en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sauna
Ride On Cycling absolutely loved it. Will sign up for next year for sure. Think I’ll take something a bit warmer though as I forgot my jacket and it got a bit cold around 5am
I would highly recommend it! It was a great challenge and there was fantastic support to make sure you had the best chance to succeed (even massages at the depots!).
Sweden wasn't quite as eye wateringly expensive as we expected, but prior to the ride, we were using the camp stove, eating in small villages etc. Stockholm hurt a little more, £9 beer - yikes! However, the room I got was lovely £68 and included one of the best breakfasts I've had in a LONG time (thanks to Secret Escapes!).
Hi Michelle, great inspiration this video, one question?....you mention wheel and frame reflectors being compulsory?, where did you find this info from?, was it from the organisers or did you have to look at Swedish road laws?. Thanks Rob
Hey! Did your event start on Saturday evening? I'm doing this event this year. I found your videos before committing to meeting friends from Norway, Switzerland & Sweden that I had met on Zwift. The vlog really helped me understand what to expect as far as the event goes. I made a total rookie mistake to see that I actually leave at 7pm on FRIDAY night! I'm not arriving to Motala until late Thursday UGH. Your captions in the video look like you started on Saturday so I'm just curious!
The window of start times I believe is about 12 hours... from 7pm to 7am (don't quote me on the exact times I'm going from memory). You can see our start time in the video, but it was around 10:30pm I believe so at dusk for Sweden that time of year. I enjoyed getting through the cold before the exhaustion set in as I struggle to keep warm and when I'm tired it's even worse. The thing with the popular times in the morning is that they are hard to get and if I started at 2am-4am my sleep is pretty much screwed up anyway so that's how we ended up choosing our time
It's made by a small company called Fuga Cargo, the designer is a woman who loves cycling. It's one of the best bike purchases I've made this year. It works on and off the bike instagram.com/fugacargo/

That looks like an awesome ride. Looking forward to part two of this ride.
It was, hopefully I'll be able to do it again one day. Apparently if you ride 10 Vätternrundans you get a special gold 🥇

Both, your bike has to comply with the law and the website for the ride had a great guide on this (a video too if I remember correctly).
The views of the video looks peacefull :-)
