This is insane. The announcements are so crisp and clear. It feels faster and almost don’t mind being on that for an hour to SJ. The old ones would get hot and uncomfortable being on them for so long.
I want to compliment the video taking here: it's well-done by someone who is clearly a real rail fan and knows what to capture. I searched RUclips for the new electric train videos and 99% of them didn't show a thing except a passenger looking out the window the whole time. Thank you for clearly touring the train and showing the braking, acceleration, layout, how the conductor interacts, and the signage. Really nice. And the HDR actually helps a lot when it comes to your bright Bay Area days!
Perfectly normal. Remeber, these EMUs are based on Stadler 's European models. They're swiss, and in Switzerland, where lines in some places have a difficult profile, they just need very powerful trains to move or reach track speed very quickly, yo maximize track capacity
I‘m watching this as a Swiss person and it‘s crazy how familiar this train ride feels just because it‘s a Stadler train (Idk if that makes sense lol). It‘s good to see that in North America at least California is trying to get good quality regional rail lines with overhead electrification.
I’m glad I flew out from New York a couple of weeks ago to ride on the diesels. I’m going to miss those things, but I’m sure the people who live out there will enjoy these new trains.
The acceleration of the old diesel locomotives tend to be quite slow. That's why used to take a long time to go from San Jose to San Francisco. With the new Stadler KISS units, the acceleration and deceleration is much faster, so even on all-stops service the travel time is much lower.
Great looking vehicle! Very high tech, and I love how you can walk through the train and get from one car to another through those automatic doors! The only thing I don’t like is that ear-piercing alarm whenever the passenger doors open. Maybe Caltrain can change it to a simple “The doors are opening” automated announcement in due time.
Stadler produces customised trains the many noises are not heard on Kiss trains in europe when entering the station and also when leaving, the horn is only used if someone is standing too close to the tracks, otherwise you hardly ever hear them in your country it is obviously required by law that it is heard so often and continuously.
The train services the relatively wealthy and well educated San Francisco peninsula. Demographically, residents of the area tend to be healthy and they have access to a very high standard of health care.
I must admit, there’s not a lot of room on the high level sections (specifically 1:25). I’m from the east coast and I know the MBTA has had renders of these, but I don’t think they’re gonna work very well on the east coast. Hopefully we can have open gangways and more room for bikes/standing room if MBTA ever gets them.
Nice. The next time I'm up there from L.A. I'll ride them. The old trains had a rough ride and were like being in a giant hamster cage. These are better.
@@sfmunioperations Still though it's shiny, fast and massive. Also the D.A.R.T runs until midnight, but not the little DCTA train. So if you leave Dallas too late to try and get back to Denton you'll get stuck at the station in Carrollton. And it takes nearly 2 hours for that journey, while driving a car takes you generally an hour.

Completely irrelevant, but the passengers as a group seem far healthier than the average Americans.
That's because the average Americans Drive and don't walk at all...
