- Anup writes for a newspaper, and his sister is invited to a girl's birthday party by her rich friend Gopa. After she leaves the party, accused of being a thief, Gopa comes to the house to apologize and meets Anup. He refuses her personal apology, saying it's a societal problem. Anup's boss sends him to a rich official's office who needs a speech written. This man is Rajendra, brother of Gopa and husband of the birthday girl. The speech Anup writes goes well, so Rajendra steals Anup's manuscript for a novel and publishes it under his own name. Rajendra is praised for his insight into the issue of poverty, but the workers at his company go on strike. Anup and Rajendra's sister Gopa, support the striking workers, but his paid goons squelch the strike. Disillusioned by the hypocrisy, Gopa leaves her comfortable wealth behind to be with Anup.

আপনাকে অজস্র ধন্যবাদ। বাংলা চলচিত্রের ইতিহাসে এক অসাধারণ পরিচালক বিমল রায়। এই ছবিটির সমালোচনা করার সময় আমাদের কিন্তু মনে রাখতে হবে ছবিটি মুক্তি পেয়েছিলো ১৯৪৪ সালে। সে-সময়কার
আর্থ সামাজিক প্রেক্ষাপট এখনকার তুলনায় আলাদা ছিলো। এমনকি ছবি তোলার প্রযুক্তিওনএখনকার মতো ছিলো না। যে কারণে এ ধরনের ছবিগুলির নান্দনিক সৌন্দর্য ছাড়াও ঐতিহাসিক মূল্য অপরিসীম।
মায়ের কোলে শুয়ে শুয়ে এই সিনেমার কথা কত শুনেছি। ভারত ভাগের আগে আমাদের পরিবার জলপাইগুড়িতে থাকতেন। আমার মায়ের স্মৃতির সংগে এই ছবিটি জড়িয়ে রয়েছে। তাই ২০২৩ সালের আগস্ট মাসে দিল্লী থেকে জলপাইগুড়ি হয়ে কোলকাতা আসি। ৭০ বছর বয়সে মায়ের স্মৃতি বিজড়িত জলপাইগুড়িকে তাই একান্ত আপন বলে মনে হয়। বাংলাদেশের ফরিদপুরে বসে মায়ের স্মৃতির সাথে অআধারিত ভাবে নিউজলপাইগুড়িকেও মনে করি।

এই সিনেমার সবচেয়ে বড় অবদান হচ্ছে 1950-এ রবীন্দ্রনাথের "জনগনমন" National Anthem হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি পাওয়ার পূর্বে এটির music tone দিয়ে সিনেমাটি শুরু হয়। এছাড়া শিক্ষাজগতে এ- সিনেমার গুরুত্ব অনেক।

The opening credits as BGM. Seen the film a long time back so can't remember anyplace else.
বাপরে কী জঘণ্য কাঠ কাঠ অভিনয়,মনে হচ্ছে যেন গাঁয়ের যাত্রা দলে মুখস্থ করা পাট বলছে।ছবির গল্প এবং প্রিন্ট দুটোই ভালো কিন্তু এই অভিনয়ের জন্য ছবিটা ভালো লাগলো না। তবে তুলুসী চক্রবর্তী এবং রাজলক্ষী দেবী অবশ্যই ব্যতিক্রম। সৌরেণ বাবুর আসল নামটা জানিনা তবে উনার অভিনয়টা বেশ ভালোই লাগলো।
Simply because you are lacking in literary appropriation, their acting sounds thousand times better than any of today.

One needs to remember this film belong to a completely different era. the definition of 'Acting" has changed since then, so what was considered good back then might not work for people today accustomed to today's acting method and standards.
@@rarefilmandtvarchive but Tulsi Chakraborty and Rajlakhsmi Devi are absolutely fine.…then why not others??because they don't know how to act.....
