    Great video. The early flex with the dramatic garage door opening, and then pulling your truck out over the materials had me locked in.

    Mate, here in Australia the same outcome can be achieved with a mobile phone (cell to you) and a six pack of beer. Step one, use the phone to invite your mates over for a beer. Step two, withhold the beer until they help with the tent. Are you related to Heath Robinson?

  • @rbleegrip
    @rbleegrip 4 года назад

    Hi, its along time ago but out of curiosity i see that the bracket strips under the tent (aluminum strips that the brackets slide in, are orientated from front to back so you can mount your simpson 3 so you access from the rear , i just bought one and my aluminum strips run the other way which suits side entrance, im assuming you can unbolt these strips to run the same way yours runs ,
    otherwise ?????, ive never heard this mentioned but you would have to be able to change the way they run to be able to have access at the rear , yes ??

    Good how to video. Im gonna make a contraption this weekend. Question: to stabilize the frame when you are using the winch can you just bolt an additional piece of 2x4 in the “A” frame? Thanks for making this video!

    • @LKQProductions
      @LKQProductions  4 года назад

      Hey Sam,
      Unfortunately adding a cross brace won't help keep the tower grounded once you start lifting the tent. The force generated by the winch on that pully just makes the rear legs lift and the tower lean towards the truck.
      BTW how did you contraption build go?

    How did the stock roofrack hold up?

  • @JasonWD
    @JasonWD 10 лет назад

    I've had pretty much the same idea, but using four uprights and making a parallelogram that raises the tent from the ground. I don't have the advantage of a driveway though! Nice video, maybe next time have two mins at the beginning showing the complete procedure, then the whole explanation for those who are going to do it?

    • @LKQProductions
      @LKQProductions  9 лет назад +1

      My first thought was to build some sort of box arrangement but it required too much lumber and bracing. This was the least expensive solution. Thanks for commenting.

  • @montfrypan5904
    @montfrypan5904 4 года назад

    hi, you are doing it soo epic, but i think i have a better idea, you can store the entire roof top tent directly under the garage roof usin 4 small polleys, and store here, winning space in the garage, if the garage claearance permit it, if not can pass through the door, you can try remove some air from your tyres, sorry for my english!

      Hey Brian, sorry for the late response, I don't check beck here nearly enough. I love my tent! So much so I decided to do a review of the system. You can check it out at ruclips.net/video/m38sIioJ6nc/видео.html
      The tent only weighs 160 lbs. so check the weight ratings for your rack system and see if it's a good fit. Thanks for watching and please send it to anyone you think will enjoy it.

    • @jijo76
      @jijo76 7 лет назад

      LKQ, can you share which roof crossbars are you using? My challenge is that most of the Yakima and Thule are rated to 160 lbs which is plenty for the tent itself but 2-3 people will add extra 300-500 lbs.... the math doesn't add up for me so I'm curious - does it just work? By the way I'm considering installing this to my MDX that does not have roof rails, so I was also looking at Thule Aeroblade Edge 7601 and similar.
