Haha! Could you imagine that playing instead of the Lake Shrine music. Too funny! I actually have to revisit Alundra. Working Designs did that game too, and I kind of want to re-examine it knowing that they haven't done so well with some other localizations.
Jess, Meia, Bonaire and Beaumont were the main targets of Working Designs (oh, Septimus also has some bad jokes, though I never stopped to compare if he's any different in jp). Also, there are 4 puzzles that really suffer from bad/no localizations (even though they're quite simple in jp).
Wow, it's been so long since I've played this. There's so much that I don't remember. I really like the sprite style, though. Great review, and good to see that you're getting around to the classics.
Not sure why I never got around to this game until recently, but glad I finally did. Will have to add the sequel to my "must play" list, I guess. Haha.
Lunar Silver Star Story is a classic RPG. I played it a lot of times, love the characters, the story and the romance. This is definitely something that should not be forgotten. Even if the translations aren't accurate or the way of thinking was different, remember this is a piece of gem from the 90s and I think it's kept that way. Plus them adding humor and some popular culture shoutout adds to the fun.
I actually enjoyed the dialogue, especially including the innuendos. It is a game about love between pairs overall. So they are not totally out of place.
Watching your review of this game, as someone who played this game at release on the Sega CD and PS1 back in the day, reaffirms in my mind that the 90s for all its flaws was fucking awesome. Society today has become too cynical, serious, and devolved, to what I can only describe as some warped kind of puritanical piety, to enjoy a quintessential classic like Lunar SSS.
I once saw someone playing this game, they got stuck at Myght's Tower. They were supposed to go through some doors with symbols, but the localized version doesn't have the instructions on the walls, so you have to brute force through it or follow a walkthrough.
:o I never knew this. I just assumed that one has to figure it out on their own or something. I just went through everything on instinct (or trial and error).
13:00 I'm imagining the lake shrine in Alundra with this music now
On localizations that are off, obviously the alundra one comes to mind.

@@Venoix - most of it wasn't too bad, but there's a "giving head" joke that really stands out

Oh yeah, that's REALLY bad.

@@brblowgames9251 I know the wise men puzzle always got me when I was a child.
I would love to play this game on the Switch! This was such a great game series!
Just finished this game and it was great. Great review!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. You planning to play the sequel, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue?
@@Venoix I do plan on playing Eternal Blue
@@NovaEX777 you won't be disappointed. Or able to hold back your emotions in the late game content. Probably my favorite game in the series.

Funny enough I found one of those game convention Ghaleon puppets at a antique store years ago. It's rare to find RPG game character merchandise.

amazing soundtrack at 13:00
Gotta take it big, or go home.

Yes, I wondered about that when I was playing and had to use a guide. As you said, WD removed the hint that was in the Japanese version.

So what happened to Luna and dyne didn’t she love him to? What happened to the Luna dyne was in love with?
I don't get the point of all the sexual innuendos, but otherwise great review!
Those are partly just puns and Shakespeare used them in Romeo and Juliet already.
