Love how Adam is always so encouraging and motivating of Elise whenever she encounters obstacles and doubts her abilities. His encouragement and belief in her clearly helps her, psychologically.
You're totally right, and I'm so glad you said that! He's been that way ever since we met 12 years ago -- always helping me if I need it but first encouraging me to do it myself, and it's helped me achieve way more physically than I ever would have thought possible. ❤️ --E
So happy Elise is able to climb, no problem! Fun climb in warm sunny southern ca, thank you for taking us along! Happy new year guys, and as always , looking forward to your next adventure. Stay healthy and happy🏜
Thanks so much, Mary! I'm feeling very blessed to be able to adventure, and now we just need the weather to cooperate and we'll get up into the mountains for some epic snowshoe adventures! ❤️ --E
Thanks for showing us that. Her younger beauty, stamina and enthusiasm along with his older experience gets it through. The two of you seem to show how genuine happiness can come from going on adventures and doing new things together.
Thanks very much, Cliff -- we totally agree with you on that. Adventuring together has been an incredible benefit for our relationship, and we would definitely recommend it for others as well! ❤️
So happy to hear that! That's exactly why we made it -- we just felt so bad for all the people who were wandering around lost out there. And btw, if you like Hall of Horrors make sure to do Chasm of Doom as well! ❤️
First of all, Happy New Year to you both! Thanks for the informative and somewhat scary video. Watching you go through that slot reminded me of 127 hours...brrr! But looks very do-able. BTW from a filmmaking standpoint, I loved the perspective where you follow Elise through through the slot, it really gave the sense of how narrow and confined the space is. Keep it going, guys!
Thanks very much, David, and Happy New Year to you too! Funny story about that follow shot -- I had an even better version shot on the GoPro but it started completely fritzing out half way through. I fortunately saw what was happening so we went back and re-shot it with the iPhone. I never do follow shots with the iPhone because it doesn't have much image stabilization, but glad this one worked out ok! --A
I love the supporting words you offer each other to help get through the tough spots. It definitely helps having a hiking/scrambling partner! What kind of shoes do you wear that have such good grip?
Thanks, and that's a great question. These are La Sportiva approach shoes. They have super grippy soles that are great for the granite slabs in J-Tree and up in the Sierra. Approach shoes fit a little tight, so you might want to try a few different brands to make sure you get a pair that's comfortable on your feet, but they're pretty unbeatable for adventures like this.
@@LiveHardxLoveHard thank you for the great feedback! I know shoe fit can vary widely between brands. Also, most of us have feet that are different sizes so that’s why one shoe usually fits better than the other. Are these available at REI? Or did you go to a sneaker store?
Thanks so much, Matthew! Happy New Year to you too, and hopefully some great snow adventures coming up if the storms stay away for a weekend or two. ❤️
This looks like more climbing than hiking! Good job you two! Be careful. I just finished a long 4 loop hike the other day that ended right around the sun going down. I've done this hike several times and even got lost one time. I will probably retire this hike or do it when it's cooler and keep it to no more than 3 loops! I'm retired and I forget that I'm not a kid anymore!
Haha good for you, Joseph! Love to hear that you're pushing it on a full day 4-looper!! And don't worry, we won't tell if you cut it down to 3 loops -- that's still an awesome way to spend the day. 💪❤️
I think the sketchiest thing on that hike was Adam's shorts! Ha ha ha. Very brave wearing those, Adam. You two are awesome. Keep the great videos coming.
Hahaha you know Elise -- she was NOT happy about the shorts. She said if I wear them again in a video we're going to let you guys vote on whether I should have to throw them away 😂 Hopefully that vote will go better for me than the last J-Tree vote about my singing 🙈 --A
Thanks for the spot you guys, every video is another trip on the list for me, and both of your energies come through wonderfully every time. Keep up the good work and good times!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard For sure, will do, probably like a month or so from now. I've got some stuff in Borrego/Ocotillo area to take care of first. If you haven't heard of Goat Canyon Trestle, or if you have and thought it was pretty mundane, there's a pretty sick almost trail from the desert floor, through a palm tree oasis, over a mountain, and then down to the trestle that not many people really hit. The other ways from either end of the tracks are just flooded with people usually, but this one is much less traveled. It's about 8-9 miles round trip I think, and 3500-4000 elevation gain total, so nothing too gnarly compared to your usual. There's also a crashed jet from the 60's or something out by agua caliente hot springs just north of there. I saw a forum post about it years ago, and then when me and some friends went out to find it we forgot to download the map for offline use. The rangers knew where it was, but we just hit up the mud caves instead. There's also a calcite mine with some crazy geology, wild natural rock colors, and a fair few sick slots to go adventure through. Just looking on Google maps will give you tons of spots to hit if it looks rad enough to you.
That was a blast you two! Joshua Tree is definitely a little boys' fantasy . . . Rocks, rocks and more rocks! I don't think I ever crawled through the Hall of Horrors as a small kid with my brother, but your trip brought back memories of being let loose to go exploring all day with him. Elise, it looks like you have done everything right to get your back strong again. And you were laughing a lot all the way through this adventure. And Adam looked like a big kid maneuvering through the channel of boulders. Thanks for another great adventure!
Tom you def understand my soul. I love J-Tree more than just about anywhere because it calls to the little kid in me, and no matter what hike we're doing I spend half of it just bouldering and scrambling to the top of epic looking formations. Love that you and your bro got do that together. Last year I took my bro to J-tree for two days and we did a bunch of scrambles and thought back to the old days! --A
Yes!! There are so many incredible adventures in J-Tree that aren't even widely known -- you could explore there for weeks and find a new exciting adventure every day. ❤️
Thank you!! I took a crew there a few weeks ago and your walkthrough got us there! It was flooded from rains about 100' in but we were able to actually find the exit based on what I remembered from your video, and backtrack to the flooded area, so we got to see the whole thing! Keep it up y'all!
Brad that's fantastic! Sorry to hear about the flooding, but that's awesome and very intrepid that you guys went up the back way and got to see the whole thing -- it really is a natural wonder!! ❤️
Nice "little" jaunt there! Glad to see you looking like your old self, Elise! I trust your back injury is continuing to improve? I certainly pray for you that it is so! Before you dropped this, I was just thinking too "I wonder what they are up to this winter - haven't seen anything for a while!" Looks like Sierra adventures are being curtailed by the weather out your way right now too. Thanks again as always for taking us along!
You have it exactly, Jeff -- the storms have made it really impossible for us to do any film-able adventures. Of course we've still been getting our for hikes during rain breaks on our local trails, but we need a weekend without storms in order to get into the Sierra. Looks like it might be this weekend! As for the back, it's still the same but at least hiking isn't causing it any problems, so I'm very grateful for that. ❤️ --E
Thanks Dave! Hope you're staying unfrozen out there. We've been having plenty of our own rough weather so far this year, but nothing compared to the tundra! ❤️
We miss you too, and it would be amazing to all do a J-Tree trip together! We could take you guys on some of the hard to find climbs, and then all do some dinner and partying in the desert once the sun goes down... ❤️
So much in that area, Christine! The bouldering is absolutely amazing for those who like climbing to the top of giant rocks or rock piles, but there is also the gorgeous Ryan mountain trail just a couple hundred yards up the road as well. On this day, we just bouldered like crazy since we're working on our climbing skills. ❤️
Thanks for doing this amazing exploration and recording it for us-because I for sure will never be able to do it! I guess that’s true for most of your videos, come to think of it.
It's our pleasure, Larry! We love taking you guys along on these adventures, and we'll have some epic ones coming up soon because we leave for the Alps on Tuesday!! ❤
Haha Elise agrees with you, Steven! She even said to me during the hike that if I try to wear them again in a video, she's going to ask you guys to vote on if I should throw them away. Maybe I'll have to wear them again just to see , but they're good trail running shorts and I'm afraid to lose the vote! 😂 --A
Great video. I've been hiking the awesome trails in Joshua Tree NP for many years, and was never impressed by the Hall of Horrors area-- until I saw this video. Unfortunately, the route you took is beyond my 70-year old capabilities. But thanks for the tour! I love Joshua Tree!
Thanks Thomas! Yes that area is mostly just about fun rock scrambling, but if you make it up and into the actual hall it is very, very cool. So glad to take you there! ❤️
Ron, this is the kind of outside-the-box thinking we need around here! I could have saved those banana yellow Tevas if I'd thought of that argument earlier 😂
Awesome! Just follow that advice and once you get around the second formation, have a screenshot of that slab in the background with the lone Joshua tree in front of it-- you'll find it!
Todd that's awesome about caving -- we wanna do that too! Yes this one is pretty tight but not as tight as Chasm of Doom -- definitely check our vid on that one if you haven't yet, cause it is a claustro-fest!!
I’m really liking your videos! Have you guys ever been to the pioneertown mountain preserve near yucca valley? It has similar terrain to Joshua tree and you can hike up to a peak with epic views. And with way less crowds.
That's great to hear, and thanks for the recommend to pioneertown! We've never been, but it sounds great and we will for sure go and climb Chapparosa peak -- it looks beautiful! ❤️
OMG! I felt panic just watching you going through these rocks! Amazing job guys, and thanks for this video. The sights are wonderful! By the way, how could these rocks be created...? Oh, mother nature!
Do Whitney of you haven't been up in big snow. Defined by switchbacks being completely buried. The more I think about it I would just go straight up from mirror lake loop back down to chute. Around Wotan. Left, way left, from outpost is easier nice frozen waterfall in middle. We did it after 4 feet of snow dropped in April. My third favorite hike of all time.
Great video - steep climbs and narrow spaces! Still not as claustrophobic as your Chasm of Doom climb, though - the Coffin squeeze was one of the scariest things I have seen you do, even though you were in no danger of falling off anything at that time!
Thanks Catherine, and you're totally right -- Chasm was much scarier, at least in terms of claustrophobia. This one's only scary for a few seconds in those two places (or not scary at all if you're Adam). But it would make a great combo with Chasm -- they're both short so could easily be done together in a day! ❤️
Thanks very much -- yes you should definitely do this one, maybe on the same day as Chasm of Doom since they're both short and fun and not too far from one another. As for gloves, it just depends on the hike and the weather. We definitely wear gloves when it's cold, or for via ferrata type climbs, but for granite slab or rock climbing type stuff it's easier to grip the rock without gloves. However, we usually have them in our packs just in case! ❤️
i gotta catch up on your utubes,, amazing u found this hidden place..amazing how these rocks got piled up millenia ago...1 way in 1 way out... stay safe ..luv seeing your utubes..those rocks make me think of the guy that cut his arm off when he got stuck in utah rocks
Yes! We were literally standing in there trying to figure out how in the heck it could possibly have developed in the way that it did! And I always think about that guy when we do these slot canyons -- it's like going swimming after Jaws came out! ❤️
Happy New Year to both of you, I hope 23 brings you guys many adventures, it's great to see you guys out and about, I have spent many winters climbing in JT, however have never been to this hike it looked like great fun, thank you so much for sharing, Larry Owens
Thanks so much, Larry -- Happy New Years to you as well! It was such a relief to have one non-rainy weekend day. It looks like this weekend will also be clear, so we're hoping to get up to the Sierra for some snowshoeing! ❤️
@livehardxlovehard Great, I just got back from Pine Canyon above Rovana the road was closed just past the town, so I just parked and hiked to the end of the road , so beautiful !
I used to live in Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley, i do miss it out there but i love it out here in vegas much more, i lived out there 20 years ago when there was NOTHING out there lol, i'm sure it's grown a bit since, great video you guys, see ya in the next one.
Thanks so much -- we love Vegas too! In fact, we were gonna come to Vegas and climb in Red Rock but the weather said it was going to rain there all weekend so we did J-tree instead. But we'll def be out to Vegas sometime in the next month or two! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Yea been getting lil snow flurries in red rock canyon too, do you guys go hiking in the areas off the 13 mile loop or elsewhere, also up at Mt. Charleson there is a trail to goes up to Mary Jane Falls that starts off easy and gets pretty challenging half way up and the scenery is GORGEOUS, so much to do out here, can't wait for the video when you guys do make it out this way 💜💜
Thanks again for showing me a trail I won't be going on! You guys are great! I love your energy, but that sort of friction scramble is no longer part of my life. I have done it back in my '20's in WA at the "Pinnacles" but no more. And yeah good shoes make all the difference.
That one is probably best done when you are younger. I am not sure the old knees would be able to do that anymore. It didn't look that bad if you are pretty flexible.
Haha yes, you have it exactly -- flexibility is key to that first move. Adam took pity on a cute couple that was wandering around completely lost and showed them where the entrance was, but then the poor guy just couldn't do the move because of lack of flexibility. Adam eventually just reached down and pulled him up 😂
Adam always makes every step of every hike look like a walk in the park! Aside from his height and physique, it greatly has to do with the absolute confidence in himself without a single hesitation! We all need an Adam when hiking!😂
Haha yes that's true -- I have rarely met anyone with so much confidence in his own abilities. Occasionally that is annoying, because it's hard for him to understand why I don't have an equal confidence in myself, but more often it's just really helpful because once I see him do something it's a lot easier for me to try it myself (little sister syndrome from growing up with an older brother!). ❤️ --E
Thanks Petr! We've been trapped inside because of all the storms the last few weeks, but hopefully this weekend we will get back up in the mountains! ❤️
Adam...those shorts! 😲 Very interesting hike that I will try when I get out there in the spring. What is the total distance on this one? Hoping I can fit through the thin area with a smaller pack. Happy New Year!!
Mark you could def fit through if you wear my ultra-light-weight running shorts! 😂 But seriously, you will fit fine with the pack. The distance is very short, about 1 mile total by the time you go all the way around and then come back through the hall. So basically it's a hike you would add to another hike -- like this one and Chasm of Doom on the same day would be perfect. Or you could just climb around for hours on the awesome rock formations in this area, which is what we usually do. Happy New Year! --A
Thanks Carl! We've been going absolutely bonkers being stuck inside with all these storms, but the weather looks good this weekend so you know we'll be out there! ❤️
@livehardxlovehard oh yeah that definitely sucks i can imagine! It's been similar for me due to a couple weeks of ice/ snow here or there but still managed as much as I can! Wishing you both well :)
We weren't able to make that first move to get into the entrance. However, we did go to the other Halls that you mentioned as not being the right one and thought they were a blast. One is narrower than this one and gives you access to the top of the rock formation for more exploring!
That's awesome you found the other halls -- the whole formation really is a blast to explore. We climbed around on it for hours the first time we were there. So glad you had a great time!! ❤️
Boy that was scary! The horror part for me was you guys going under those huge boulders that were wedged in there and if a quake happened at just the right moment a jellybean or pop tart would be smashed to smithereens! That’s dicey for sure guys. Elise your climbing was excellent despite not having Giraffe legs like Adam (thank goodness!). How did your back hold up by the way. Is it getting better. Hope so! Glad the rains let up some. Looking forward to your next adventure and thanks so much for sharing! Love you guys! 🤗❤️
Thanks so much, Larry -- we love you too! Yes I had the same thought about earthquakes, and of course Adam laughed at me, but that boulder looked exactly like the rock from Indian Jones! My back is staying pretty much the same no matter what I do, which is frustrating but also I guess good in the sense that hiking doesn't seem to hurt it at all. It was so nice to have one rain-free weekend day, and hoping to get up into the Sierra this weekend if the storms stay away long enough for them to clear the roads. ❤️ --E
So sad about your back Jellybean! Wish I could wave a magic wand and make it all better. Be extra careful if they do manage to clear the roads to the sierra’s for a adventure. If it looks dicey I’d wouldn’t mind a Q&A from the couch. 😊@@LiveHardxLoveHard
Okay did Adam put on reading glasses before doing the tricky down climb at 6:00?? 🤓 Has that been his climbing secret the whole time?? He's like the reverse Superman, he actually has to PUT ON glasses to access his powers 😂 Nice to see you climbing again Elise!
Haha thanks so much -- it feels really good to be out there even on a little adventure like this one! As for Adam, usually he has on those cool prescription sunglasses for down climbing technical terrain, but in the Hall he had to wear his big old Clark Kents! 😂 --E
Another awesome hike! There's a hike in Death Valley through Surprise Canyon to Panamint City - an old ghost town. It's supposed to be a tough day hike with some cool stuff to see along the way. But beware - I've read some reports of rattlesnakes along the way. If you can get past that, I think you'll both love it!
Wait seriously? That is a great recommendation. I'm obsessed with ghost towns and absolutely must do this hike! Ok, I'm going to look it up right now -- rattlers or no rattlers. --A
I lied - the place you want to check out is called Beveridge. Panamint City is cool, but Beveridge is supposedly the most remote ghost town in Death Valley. Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/iYCAwk5oxFE/видео.html
Thanks for the awesome look into the Hall of Horrors and thanks for both angles of the descent. If the exit was so difficult, would you recommend this in reverse direction? Also you mentioned walking all the way around the 2nd rock formation. Was the exit right in front if you as you approached the 2nd set of rocks? Thanks again! Your videos are so awesome!
These are excellent questions. The Hall looks cooler if you do it from the way we did, but you're right that it might arguably be easier to do it in reverse. The exit is not directly in front of you as you approach the second set of rocks -- that's where a lot of people go, but it is not the way to the Hall. The exit is a little bit around the left side. If you wanted to go in the exit side, you could always turn around once you reach the "start" and go through it again from that cooler angle, so really going in either way would work. But if you go all the way around and look for that slab where we entered, that's probably the simplest way as long as you can do the first move.
Thanks for the video showing the entire course of the Real Hall of Horror. There are 2 sections may not easy for short legs, such as 2:42-2:55 and 6:17-6:35. They are so easy for people with long arms and legs. Will it doable for someone at 4'8"? Will high top hiking boots with good track be okay to do this scrambling? Also, will a sling help for the rock at 2:42? Is it better not to bring a daypack? I will do this scrambling on Sunday, 4/7. Hope get you response before then. Thanks.
That's awesome you are going -- you are going to love it! Yes those sections are definitely easier for long people, but there are multiple options for how to do them and being under 5' feet shouldn't stop you. We like approach shoes for this kind of thing, but most people do it in hiking boots so that should be fine too. And you probably won't need a daypack -- it's a very short hike -- but you could bring one if you want. Have a great time, and let us know how it goes! ❤️
Now is when you want to do Whitney if buried. The backside if covered is epic. It is way better once past outpost camp. A few scary traverses but you can go all the way up the left side. From outpost. Skip whole mirror lake and next switchback.
Our pleasure -- we felt so bad for all the people wandering aimlessly around wondering how the heck to get to the right place! Then we talked to a couple of them and realized that the social media posts they'd seen were totally wrong, and had the wrong "hall"!
Another great video, guys. I know you wear helmets on some of the climbs, but have either of you ever hit your head on any of the rocks? Keep climbing!!
That's a great question, Bob, and yes! I sometimes bonk my head, especially when I'm filming Elise in situations like this. I whacked it once on an overhanging rock at Big Pine Lakes -- E thought it was pretty funny 🤯
This only confuses me more haha. So we did the so-called Hall a few years ago, which is a more cathedral like hall in the second rock formation behind the first from the parking lot. Last year, revisited and explored some more. Here’s my confusion. There’s now a sign (there wasn’t in 2019) showing the other hall as the hall of horrors. A ranger said, indeed that’s the hall. And without seeing this video, when exploring again, I believe I found this one, the other one again and arguably a third. Either way, everyone seems to agree that the hall is in that second formation. Lol
Haha that really is confusing! The hall is definitely in the second formation, but we didn't see the sign. Did they just now put it up? And in that cathedral-type area? lf so, I bet they're just saying that because it's a lot safer access than the "real" hall and they don't want tourists getting hurt, etc. But kind of cool that it adds to the mystique! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard honestly, I don't think they even know. JT is not very well signed, but it seemed much better this go around. Years ago, it was barely a sign from the parking lot. We had stopped to use the bathroom haha. Is the entire rock formation with its network of "halls" the actual hall? Either way, great place to explore and as a person afraid of heights, definitely had to be careful!
It really is a natural wonder. Joshua Tree has so many things like that if people are willing to look, but this one and Chasm of Doom in particular are world class things to see! ❤️
Death Valley February 11th. All about Sun and 70+ degrees initially. 30 days of Eastern Sierra. Bam. If the weather is good it's Independence, Big Pine, Portal, the heck with Death Valley. NPS hates dogs so probably Sierra's. 1st conditioning run since 3rd knee replacement so time to find out if I am ever going to the tops again. That only took two years to reach this point. Thank God for your videos. Really motivated me to not give up.
Carillion Creek is awesome if totally buried you can hear the water walking over it. Don't want to fall through for sure. Snow shoes and crampons. Can't walk down chute in shoes. To steep at top. Trailcrest.
Haha you definitely could -- and you must! It's so fun, and such a cool feature. And it only takes like 30 min. Do it on the same day you do Chasm of Doom -- they're a perfect two-hike combo! ❤
So, as usual what is "a little dicey" for Adam and Elise is scary steep and dangerous af for most of us. So, was great to tag along on this one. I also got suspicious how short is this hike since you are not carrying your little backpacks. The sad part is that Adam did not find a good snack spot...
Haha you are right -- this one was a bit too short to require a snack spot, but really a fun little hidden gem of Joshua Tree. Maybe next time we'll have him climb up and over to the very top of the rock formation! Not sure if that's doable, but it would make for a great snack spot view! ❤️
Wonderful! Ya you didn't miss us by much, because we've been out there in the desert areas a lot during all these rains. It must be gorgeous out there now though. Have a blast!!! ❤️
Warning as a class 5 vertical splelunker i think you guys are ready to take it to the next level! On rope in total daarknes is an adrelin rush you will never forget
Rangers say 100 inches T Meadows. It is 8600 feet there. Tioga got more so Dana would be epicly buried overlooks Mono Lake and vicinity. Nor sure how far up the road you can get. And Whitney is way easier drive. Has Lone Pine. And it the Big Kahuna. Also Carillion leads to Russell Arete? Lone Pine Creek mountaineers of course. It was 2011 last time it had big snow. That's 12 years ago!! This doesn't happen often.
This might sound crazy, Zach, but literally all of them. We plan to start full time travel in 18 months, and if we're blessed with good health that should mean at least a couple decades to go pretty much everywhere! But tops on the list right now given our hiking and climbing aspirations are Switzerland, the Patagonia area of South America, and Nepal. ❤
Haha ya, for people who are used to this terrain it's of course doable in any kind of shoe -- probably even high heels! But for people who are new to rock scrambling or who just want a shoe that optimizes their grip in this kind of terrain, approach shoes are probably the best choice.
Fat Dan is up and moving. Air Assault! Rendezvous with destiny, not Franklin Delano Roosevelt, although he said it first. Easiest first, Bama Hills every peak. Actually camping at the top of the last hill is awesome. Tricky road up if no 4x4. Little exposed but great view.
Oh no! I wonder what happened. Still it's such an awesome place to scramble around. The first time we were there were were scrambling for hours having a blast until we found this hall :)
Yes! That's the right way to spend a lunch break -- love those J-Tree hikes, because they're all different and all very fun and interesting terrain! ❤️
Oh yes!!! That scramble is right up at the top of our bucket list, and a long adventure trip down under is something we are definitely planning to do in the next couple of years. ❤️
Oops! Hit the enter button by mistake before fininshing my comment. You guys seek out and destroy unknown adventures that would make most hikers wimp out and cry for mommy. Truth or Dare? Try base jumping next! Elise I noticed you were wearing so awesome climbing shoes for extra grip. Adam where did you get those Sponge Bob shorts?
Et tu, Ron? OMG Elise was ragging on my shorts the whole day, but I love those things! I might have to wear them in another vid and let you guys vote on whether I should toss them (Elise's preference) or give them more air time 😂 --A
We tried it, but didn't like the footage! So much of the stuff we shoot requires really getting the angle and the lighting right, and the headband shots just didn't look as good. Of course, they could still be useful when there's no other safe option, but for the most part even on vertical faces we try to find ways to hold on with one hand and shoot with the other because the footage turns out better. ❤
Haha yes this is not a place for the claustrophobic, especially the "coffin." It really did feel like a person could get stuck in there, which put a shiver down both of our spines. ❤️
That happens to SO many people! But truth be told, it's such a cool rock formation that just exploring around in it is a total blast anyway, so not a waste of time. ❤️
Hey guys check out these guys on You Tube they are so funny. (Consertive Twins) This video in particular is a ball of laughs. (This guy thinks he is a woman)
We obviously see it differently than you do, since most of the great places we've been in the world are because we got the beta on line. There's never a crowd, as youj'd see if you watched our videos, because most truly great spots are just too hard to get to. We think it's good and right to pass on our knowledge to those who can do such adventures as others have passed knowledge on to us. Even this one, short as it is, will never have big crowds because the move to get in is just too hard for most people. But yeah, if you're frustrated by beta being online then you were unfortunately born in the wrong era, because that cat is already out of the box and nobody's going to put it back in.
Oh my gosh, I certainly hope not. There is a definitely a bit of scrambling on this one, but the consequences for making a mistake are most likely more of the sprained ankle variety than full on mortal danger.
Haha that's cool -- someone once told us they did it in heels! Either way, it's a short enough little hike that as long as people are comfortable with a bit of scrambling it's probably doable.
Yeah, I know I can look ridiculous sometimes 😂 But I have very sensitive ears that get painful in cooler climates so I've learned to always cover them up. Meanwhile, I hate sweating through shirts while hiking or climbing so I personally prefer sports bras. Adam likes to joke that I'm basically a princess and the pea when it comes to outdoor gear, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

This is such a great video! I have been doing some research to do this and this video is the most helpful I've found so far!
@@prowrestlingisart6742 Sometimes at REI, but I think I just ordered mine online because sizes 12 and 13 sell out fast in LA!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard ok good to know, thank you!
Happy New Year. Your videos are always awesome.
Thanks so much, Matthew! Happy New Year to you too, and hopefully some great snow adventures coming up if the storms stay away for a weekend or two. ❤️
Verrrry nice, my precioussss....a true Gollum indeed! :D
Seriously, nice to see you two back in action!
Thanks so much, Thomas! Curse the Baggins! What has it got in its pocketses? Oh we guess, we guess, my precious! 😂❤️
Thanks Dennis! We love hearing that -- please let us know when you do this one and how you like it!! ❤️
That sounds fantastic!!!
Looks like fun! Great video! I’ll have to plan a trip to JTree soon!
Great video. We’re heading to JTNP in February; I want to do this hike now that I’ve seen it. Thanks.
Our pleasure -- yes you should definitely do it! It's really a cool rock formation. And make sure to check out Chasm of Doom as well! ❤️
Thanks for sharing this video. I did the hike today. What an awesome experience!!
So happy that you did it, Nerses! It truly is a Joshua Tree classic. Next you gotta try the Chasm of Doom!!
Glad to see you back! Missed you both.
Thanks Mark! Ya the storms have been keeping us down, but we rise again! ❤
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Yep, it's been a deluge up here in Northern California, too!
You guys are awesome!
Thank You for sharing!

Thanks Dave! Hope you're staying unfrozen out there. We've been having plenty of our own rough weather so far this year, but nothing compared to the tundra! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard we had over 5 inches of snow since yesterday and it's still 31 degrees. A warm front! Hope you guys keep rocking it!!
This is such a cool one! Definitely on the list for when we make it to Joshua tree one of these days! 😍 love and miss you two
We miss you too, and it would be amazing to all do a J-Tree trip together! We could take you guys on some of the hard to find climbs, and then all do some dinner and partying in the desert once the sun goes down... ❤️
Cool excursion. Hope there was more in the area to explore when you finished
Me with the popcorn- I don't think I will be doing that anytime soon. : ) Another excellent video! Thank you and happy Year of the Rabbit.
Haha thanks and happy year of the rabbit to you too, Robert! Hopefully we'll be hopping all over those mountains in 2023!
What an amazing place and I'm happy to see Elise enjoying the trails again ... but those are some crazy shorts, Adam! 😉
Nice video! there is another cool cave system in there as well!
Yes for sure -- we found 3 or 4 other really cool long caves in this same formation, but nothing quite like the Hall. J-Tree is totally amazing! ❤️
Keep your shorts Adam. If have an emergency a rescue chopper can see you from ten miles away!
Ron, this is the kind of outside-the-box thinking we need around here! I could have saved those banana yellow Tevas if I'd thought of that argument earlier 😂
Great video guys. Heading there this summer, hopefully I can find it.
Awesome! Just follow that advice and once you get around the second formation, have a screenshot of that slab in the background with the lone Joshua tree in front of it-- you'll find it!
I love hiking slot canyons and caving, but I felt claustrophobic just watching this video. Great job looking forward to seeing more
Todd that's awesome about caving -- we wanna do that too!
That's a great question, Miguel! We were wondering the same thing -- probably erosion, but it's just such fascinating geology to explore. ❤️
Right after the snow? That sounds awesome, but we're scared of avalanches!
Great, see you two another video.👍
Like to try this trail soon.
Just one question, why you don't wear gloves?

@livehardxlovehard Great, I just got back from Pine Canyon above Rovana the road was closed just past the town, so I just parked and hiked to the end of the road , so beautiful !
@@larryowens2859 That's the way to do it, Larry! After this much snow, even the roads become great hiking trails!! ❤

@@LiveHardxLoveHard Yea been getting lil snow flurries in red rock canyon too, do you guys go hiking in the areas off the 13 mile loop or elsewhere, also up at Mt. Charleson there is a trail to goes up to Mary Jane Falls that starts off easy and gets pretty challenging half way up and the scenery is GORGEOUS, so much to do out here, can't wait for the video when you guys do make it out this way 💜💜
@@TheDisabledGamersChannel Those falls sound awesome! We will check that out for sure.
Thanks again for showing me a trail I won't be going on! You guys are great! I love your energy, but that sort of friction scramble is no longer part of my life. I have done it back in my '20's in WA at the "Pinnacles" but no more. And yeah good shoes make all the difference.
That's awesome you climbed those sandstone slabs in Pinnacles, Gary! That is most definitely on our list of things to do one day as well!! ❤
How you do that awesome map video at the beginning 😱
The usual way is that we take the GPX track of our hike and map it onto Google Earth. Google Earth is totally amazing for making these kinds of maps!
Great job as always ! Have a good time 🙂
Thanks Petr!
Excellent advice.. Thanks! 😎
super happy to see a new video especially such an interesting one!
@@larrywheeler9797 We'll be extra careful for sure!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard👍😘
Okay did Adam put on reading glasses before doing the tricky down climb at 6:00?? 🤓
Has that been his climbing secret the whole time?? He's like the reverse Superman, he actually has to PUT ON glasses to access his powers 😂
Nice to see you climbing again Elise!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Right on! Also, check out the Amboy Crater! That's not too far from Joshua Tree.
@@LiveHardxLoveHard There's also a Lava Tube somewhere in Mojave National Park you can explore.
I lied - the place you want to check out is called Beveridge. Panamint City is cool, but Beveridge is supposedly the most remote ghost town in Death Valley.
Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/iYCAwk5oxFE/видео.html
Thank you that looks awesome!!!
It helps that adam has those MASSIVELY long arms so he could reach across that gap!
It's so true! At the climbing gym I always tell him he's got the "be tall" beta!! ❤️ --E
Thanks so much for your prompt response.
Now is when you want to do Whitney if buried. The backside if covered is epic.
It is way better once past outpost camp. A few scary traverses but you can go all the way up the left side. From outpost. Skip whole mirror lake and next switchback.
But avalanches?
Hello my friends! 🙋♂️Congratulations on what you present here! You have passed through those narrow Gorges, flanked by enormous rocks! Very cool! 💖
Thanks so much -- we hope you will get to visit this place one day, it is truly miraculous! ❤️
Nice, thanks for sharing.
Our pleasure -- we felt so bad for all the people wandering aimlessly around wondering how the heck to get to the right place! Then we talked to a couple of them and realized that the social media posts they'd seen were totally wrong, and had the wrong "hall"!
2:43 Safety + Skill > Gracefulness
Very well said, Sam! Totally agree. ❤️

Baxter Pass never been there. Past Hatchery. Going. Never did Bishop either. But when you work in Yosemite and live at Bass Lake why would you?
Let us know how Baxter is!!!!
That's quiet challenging but amazing 👏!
Yes Dan!!!! We cannot wait to see you on those summits!!!! 💪❤️
Carillion Creek is awesome if totally buried you can hear the water walking over it. Don't want to fall through for sure. Snow shoes and crampons. Can't walk down chute in shoes. To steep at top. Trailcrest.
I've taken a couple break throughs into water -- NOT fun!
Portal was 2 foot deep the year we went. Kearsarge parking lot 3 to 4 feet.
Man that's a lot of snow. Must have been a serious slog in snowshoes the whole way!
Really cool hike! I think I could do this. Maybe 😃
Haha you definitely could -- and you must! It's so fun, and such a cool feature. And it only takes like 30 min. Do it on the same day you do Chasm of Doom -- they're a perfect two-hike combo! ❤
What else are you supposed to do when indoors during the rain but eat a lot of poptarts :)
Haha my sentiments exactly! I've probably gained an inch around my waist over the past 5 weeks of storms and DGAF!! --A
@@LiveHardxLoveHard haha yes! thats what I like to hear! I was going to use the storms as my reason, then realized they didn’t start at Thanksgiving
I'm in Joshua Tree now! Too bad I missed you guys!

Wow that's a crazy amount of snow! Might be worth a snowshoe trip just for the meadows!
Are there no trail signs pointing to this Hall Of Horrors? Seems odd that it is unmarked.
Yes there are no trail signs at all -- you just have to find it by the natural landmarks.
Looks very nice🙂
Thanks Edu -- yes Joshua Tree is a real refuge for us. Just a beautiful place with many natural wonders. ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard I hope i can go there one day.
I really love your pants!
Tights for all seasons!! ❤️❤️
Which countries do you plan to travel to in the future?
This might sound crazy, Zach, but literally all of them. We plan to start full time travel in 18 months, and if we're blessed with good health that should mean at least a couple decades to go pretty much everywhere! But tops on the list right now given our hiking and climbing aspirations are Switzerland, the Patagonia area of South America, and Nepal. ❤
That sounds great 👍
When I was a teenager we used to do it in slip on vans. Approach shoes 🤔
Haha ya, for people who are used to this terrain it's of course doable in any kind of shoe -- probably even high heels! But for people who are new to rock scrambling or who just want a shoe that optimizes their grip in this kind of terrain, approach shoes are probably the best choice.
Hi! Guys, 🥰👍🏻Great job 💪😇
Thanks Maria -- such a fun little hidden adventure! ❤️❤️
Super inspired that you are getting after it, Dan, bionic knees and all!!!!
my friend and I went and could not find the entrance. so we just climbed all the rocks and it was still so fun
Oh no! I wonder what happened. Still it's such an awesome place to scramble around. The first time we were there were were scrambling for hours having a blast until we found this hall :)
At 5:15 and 6:17 The rock over your head, held in place by another rock that seems precariously balanced... that's sketchy!
Haha yes! That one big one is like the one from Indiana Jones -- I kept thinking that with an earthquake it might roll on to me! ❤️
I'm on mine lunch break watching your video...... squash
Yes! That's the right way to spend a lunch break -- love those J-Tree hikes, because they're all different and all very fun and interesting terrain! ❤️
Adam needs some LED strips for those shorts.
Hahaha that would be just the thing! 😂
You'd like cooyoyo/castle rock
Oh yes!!! That scramble is right up at the top of our bucket list, and a long adventure trip down under is something we are definitely planning to do in the next couple of years. ❤️
It's not a "Baby Palm Tree:, it looks like a Nolina - they like it above 3000 ft altitude.
That is great info -- thank you! ❤
Chute at Whitney switchbacks. Carillion is easy.
Thanks!!!
Our pleasure -- hope it will be useful!! ❤️
I’ve gyat to go there now.
Yes for sure Clay -- this and Chasm of Doom are the two coolest formations in the whole park!
Bullet Train wedding was at hall of horror.
Was it really? Dan you are seriously a font of interesting info!!
Love it all
Thanks John! Such fun and quick trip from LA!! ❤
I might have to wear them in another vid and let you guys vote on whether I should toss them (Elise's preference) or give them more air time 😂 --A
Adam I think you should wear the yellow submarines to go along with the sponge bob pants. Elise would really love that wouldn’t she! Hahaha 😂
@@larrywheeler9797 Hahaha yes! I still have those, but I only wear them in the locker room at the gym where Elise can't see them 🙈🤣
@@LiveHardxLoveHard maybe you should put the shorts in the locker room too! You want to make your bride happy for the good of your marriage. 🤣
When are you guys going to get GoPro‘s and attach them to a headband? Hands free.
So Fun
It really is, Alexis -- it's just this amazing little place and it feels like you found a hidden prize once you get there! ❤️
Baby Palm. 👶 Cousin of Carillion Creek Baby Bristlecone. Ridge of horror Russell.
That baby palm entrance guard was really cute. Hopefully we meet the Russell ridge this summer!!
Claustrophobia would not permit me, even if I could. 😖
Haha yes this is not a place for the claustrophobic, especially the "coffin." It really did feel like a person could get stuck in there, which put a shiver down both of our spines. ❤️
Bummer I drove hours to do this and did the wrong one. It was neat but not the one you did.
That happens to SO many people! But truth be told, it's such a cool rock formation that just exploring around in it is a total blast anyway, so not a waste of time. ❤️
Rating: Bouldery 4th Class.
And don't forget soooo fun! ❤️
Who are you. Narration voice? Who knew.
😂
Hey guys check out these guys on You Tube they are so funny. (Consertive Twins) This video in particular is a ball of laughs. (This guy thinks he is a woman)
Ron are you doing improve comedy comments? 😂
Trying to blast great spots huh? You know what makes them great? Lack of crowds
And this is how tourists come here and die in the summer
Oh my gosh, I certainly hope not. There is a definitely a bit of scrambling on this one, but the consequences for making a mistake are most likely more of the sprained ankle variety than full on mortal danger.
It wasn't that bad. I did it barefoot.
Haha that's cool -- someone once told us they did it in heels! Either way, it's a short enough little hike that as long as people are comfortable with a bit of scrambling it's probably doable.
i do NOT understand her wardrobe. somehow it's hot enough to just wear a sports bra, but cold enough to need a winter headband?
Yeah, I know I can look ridiculous sometimes 😂 But I have very sensitive ears that get painful in cooler climates so I've learned to always cover them up. Meanwhile, I hate sweating through shirts while hiking or climbing so I personally prefer sports bras. Adam likes to joke that I'm basically a princess and the pea when it comes to outdoor gear, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!
