"Strike Up the Band" (Complete) - Ralph Carmichael’s Big Band (1994)

“Strike Up the Band” (the complete CD) features Ralph Carmichael with his big band. This 1994 project was released by Brentwood Music in Tennessee, helping to bring a touch of “swing” to the Christian music scene - something that would have been unthinkable just a few years earlier. This is a great collection of songs, most of them written by Ralph, including many of his classics. The dozen tunes are: “He’s Everything to Me,” “My Little World,” “A Quiet Place,” “Reach Out to Jesus,” “Tell It Like It Is,” “We Are More Than Conquerors,” “Strike Up the Band” (the great Gershwin tune that kicked off each of Ralph’s big band concerts), “All My Life,” “I’m Gonna Go Back,” “I Found What I Wanted,” “The New 23rd” and the Les Paul & Mary Ford hit “The World Is Waiting for the Sunrise.” All the players on this project were top Los Angeles-based musicians, many of them also performing with Ralph in his live big band concerts. The CD was another award-winning project for Ralph, receiving the 1994 Gospel Music Association Dove Award for “Best Instrumental Album of the Year.”
