OK, the ONLY problem I have with Emily's reviews, is I'm too busy laughing and being dazzled by all the jump-cuts, gags and moments of total madness to really consider whether or not the game is for me, so I have to go back and watch the review again.
Actually, now I think about it... that's not actually a problem at all. 🤣

The amount of work put into the editing, the script and the balance (humor/presentation) of this review is impressive. Emily's diction is impeccable - easy to understand, pleasant voice and rapid-fire info.
The game is not my style, but I just watched the review because it was fun to watch 😊
"My kids are going to love when I bring home A FISH, A SWORD, A BENTO BOX, ooh a yummy BENTO BOX OOH" - more musical interludes like "They're Gonna Love Me" please! (Enjoyed the entire review, but that was a particular highlight!)

Pleasantly caffeinated video. The action selection mechanism reminds me of Ulm, but in this case seems much more thematic (growing bamboo shoots).
Was the entire intro bit just specifically crafted to forget the name of the game and then hit us with that pun?

I liked the mention of accessibility being an issue with moving all those small thin tiles around! more boardgame reviews should mention things like that
Tweezers are great for games with tiles or cardboard counters.
The little box jump at 1:20 is messing with my brain.
I'm severely disappointed in the lack of lav mics on Emily's fingers.... Do better please!
Emily has a very distinct style blending upbeat and dark humor, it's phenomenal, and a great addition to the channel.
Emily's definitely hitting the ground running at SU&SD! Her editing and sense of humor keep me giggling almost the entire video, and how does she keep finding all these cute but crunchy games? Does she have a secret board game grove where she grows them?
Man, these videos are so good. Not only are they entertaining, with fantastic production, they teach the game so gosh darn well too. Great stuff.
I really enjoyed the pace of the video during the preview of it a few weeks ago. And I found it even better on rewatch, as even more jokes clicked!

I’m here for this brand of humor
30 years ago when we were in college, we used to stay up late watching Japanese game shows on some extreme high channel like 78 because of how addicting and ridiculously entertaining they were.
It’s funny to see how much RUclips content now models a lot of those ingredients of those game shows. Quick cuts, cutesy explosive fonts, dad jokes, creepy laughing, out of nowhere bizarre prop or character, slo-mo to force more cringe, a high degree of manufacture and a zombieish feel to the creators’ emotional behavior, etc.
I’m not being critical, so don’t receive it that way. I’ve just noticed how much in the last two years the most viral and funny content certainly leans into these things.

Looking back, I suddenly wonder how Emily got the shot where a game-state drops onto the table in front of her around 3:50. I'd guess cutting the table out of a shot with the board dropping onto it and pasting that onto the shot with her sitting there, but it must have been tricky to so without casting a shadow on the table. Diffuse lighting, maybe?
Pretty much! It's a few elements being dropped, though. So, I dropped the board, the player board, and the tiles all separately. Then I combined them all together :)

Emily's reviews have been amazing so far, but I feel like it would be neat to see her do a review with Matt as I think Emily and Matt have a similar style of being a bit silly but with moments where they come off more serious. Also while I don't always watch the reviews (I sometimes listen to them) I definitely think the use of the text graphics to punctuate things makes it required to watch. Also the "it's too big" gag made me genuinely laugh out loud.
I spend the entire video wanting to hate this frenetic style of reviewing. And yet, I can't look away. And then I keep being amazed at the depth of the commentary that comes through the haze of jump cuts and sarcasm. Great job and excellent review.
