I love how imperfect Peter was in the classic era. It sucks that nowadays we need the symbiotic to see that angrier and lonelier side of him. I do think classic Peter does tend to over do it but with the right writers, this story arc could work very well in a more modern interpretation.

I think the reason there’s no “mystery” to the Goblin’s identity is because Ditko was primarily plotting the stories and it wasn’t his intention for his identity to be anyone we knew other than someone from Jameson’s social club.

According to Ditko this was BS made up by Stan Lee, and actually both of them always intended for Norman Osborn to be the Green Goblin when they created him. Honestly, i don't who to believe in this case.

There is some debate about that considering that Norman Osborne gets more frequently used in stories until the reveal of the Green Goblin's identity. Hard to say with certainty considering both Ditko and Lee are no longer with us, not to mention years of friction Ditko had towards Lee over credit for being the co-creator and plotter of the comics.

Also, there's a second "lifting" scene in Spider-Man 2 when Doc Ock's lair is falling apart and Peter holds a falling wall to save Mary Jane and himself.

I actually love these videos, definitely the definitive set of silver-age spider-man video essays for me.

Second year high school students are called sophomores because at that age young people have become sophisticated yet they don’t always act in that manner. Hence, the word with the roots of sophisticated and moron. Peter is behaving like a normal high school student.
