    We've been getting a lot of comments regarding the "British inventing the internet". Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web. Americans created the internet. They are two separate things. The world wide web uses the internet to work. www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/Internet/Web_vs_Internet.asp

    • @Meansnare
      @Meansnare 6 лет назад +72

      Yea the US created the internet, millions of interlinked computer networks used to transmit data. It encompasses information sent via email, chat tools, apps and a range of other online services in addition to websites.
      The World wide web is basically the pages , hyperlinks data and documents that hold it all together, so basically the internet as we know it would be useless and consist of emails an basic texts if it weren't for the Brits, you are welcome.

      Lily. Practically all the world sports originated in Britain or were first formalised in Britain.Soccer (as it was originally called), rugby, cricket, tennis and golf are just the most famous.Britain was the first modern democracy, had the first modern political system, began the mechanisation of agriculture, had the first scientific animal breeding system, introduced the first museums dedicated to understanding, the first modern zoos studying animal behaviour, introduced many modern sciences including geology, and palaeontology, mapped the world, introduced time zones - so that now the Prime Meridian runs through East London, invented the first telegraph system.Britain brought about the industrial revolution - inventing (manu)facturies, railways and modern shipbuilding. England abolished slavery in 1772 - the first to do so - which probably added to the determination of the American colonies to separate. Carried out the greatest act of genuine altruism in the history of the word - the fight against the slave trade. And civilised half the world. Preventing the murder of children who were deemed unclean and stopping widow burning - to mention a tiny fraction of the achievements of the most remarkable people who have ever lived. But now doomed to extinction, betrayed by their own sense of duty to the world. .

      Chocolate?? Cadburys, Fry's and Terrys are now owned by Mondelez Int (Kraft Foods) and have changed most of the recipes for inferior chocolate. Most products are now made in Poland.
      Mars are also USA owned and only makes a few things over here.
      Nestle are Anglo-Swiss but cannot or will not confirm which products are made in UK if any.
      So other than Thorntons and a few small manufacturers, there's really no such thing anymore as British chocolate. Sad but true :(

Is there any other country that has competitiveness in multiple sports like UK?? Football, cricket, golf, rugby, hockey,boxing etc .. the british talent is not only divided due to engagement in different sports but also due to divided play of four talented countries.... for evidence.Great Britan with a population of just 65 million always ranks higher in the olympic table against the likes of US with over 300 million and china over 1 billion ... see that's the evidence of real british talent...

Here our guys play rugby with at best a cup for the privates, all the rest is there to get busted, kicked, kneed, battered and busted some more. That's a real man's game. THE BRITISH INVENTED THE INTERNET!!

    • @list25
      @list25  8 лет назад +78

      No. They didn't. The internet and the World Wide Web are two separate things. "The World Wide Web (WWW) is an information space where documents and other web resources are identified by URLs, interlinked by hypertext links, and can be accessed via the Internet. The World Wide Web was invented by English scientist Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. The Internet is the global system of interconnected computer networks that use the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link devices worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries an extensive range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic mail, telephony, and peer-to-peer networks for file sharing. The origins of the Internet date back to research commissioned by the United States federal government in the 1960s to build robust, fault-tolerant communication via computer networks." So basically, you access the World Wide Web via the Internet. ~Mike

      Not to worry, the Brits invented the computer, as well as many other important every day things.

    • @liamc8102
      @liamc8102 8 лет назад +49

      Yes, that's alright, we ruled half the world, including America, essentially creating the United states. Blowing you out of the water, does that put you to shame?

    • @liamc8102
      @liamc8102 8 лет назад +45

      I never said anyone created America. I simply stated that the British colonized 13 states on the east coast of North America, which, once gained independence became the United States of America. These states never would have needed to gain independence if the British Empire had never colonized them in the first place and it's unlikely the 13 states would have united.
      Secondly, no one fled, it's called the British Empire for a reason. We conquered and ruled. And i completely agree with the two words "religious" and "bullshit" going next to one another, they're quite the complementary couple.
      Next, you seriously believe the United Kingdom is run by Muslims? Wow you're ignorant! Let me educate you. According the latest (2011) census, 87% of the population in Great Britain is white, as opposed to 13% of the population of Great Britain being other ethnic minorities. Regarding religion, only a small 4.4% of the population is Muslim, whereas, a majority being Christian at 59.5%, of which 93% are white. You, like many others are being fooled by the media and are oblivious to reality. Now, yes, that is the 2011 census and when the new 2021 census is released i guarantee you those percentages will vary, including the Muslim population living in the UK. However, i can also assure you that Muslims will still be the small minority that they are today. And, if a president that follows Islam is ever put in to power, that doesn't mean Muslims run our country just as much as any Christian. Religion is a belief system, a belief in god or a supernatural being, or fiction as i like to call it. Much like your belief of religion running a country.
      Lastly, you are delusional if you think Arabic will become Britain's official language.
      Wadaeaan lak jaddana, wakunt kays sadhij min alqarf.
      I trust you know what that means, and for the majority that don't speak Arabic, google translate is very helpful.

    • @liamc8102
      @liamc8102 8 лет назад +31

      Yes i did notice that.
      So you don't give a "rat ass" about history but you do about climate? Just goes to show how uneducated and simple minded you are. AND WOW, what a hypocrite you are. You falsely accuse me of stereotyping you, when you call me "little girl" and "princess"? Some nerve, but don't worry, i'm not going to judge you for not knowing the meaning behind big words like stereotype.

    British invented sports like Football, Cricket, Rugby and Tennis. These sports are played globally while we aim to compete against other countries whereas USA invented sports like basketball, American football and baseball which are sports that most countries have no interests in which is why its main audience are just Americans. That's why America comes first in all of its sports where as the sports created by the British have more competition across the world.

      Britain invented most of the popular sports of the world like, football, rugby, cricket, tennis etc and we are crap at every one of them. 😄 By the way it's "FOOTBALL" not "soccer. Because it's played by kicking the ball with the foot. In American "football" the ball is hardly ever kicked by a players foot. They bring on a special guy to kick the ball. So how can it be football?😳

      Of course it matters and the reason why is that it dates back to knights on horse back. The English and a few other countries correctly and historically drive on the correct side of the road and the rest of the world drive on the wrong side. Even the Romans drove carts on the left too. The US, Russia, and China have enough common sense to not mess with each other. We aren't the ones that loose almost every colony we create, including a colony of poor farmers with un-advanced guns."If they were a lesser country you would’ve invaded them already", You guys are the ones that have invaded over 170 countries at some point in history.

You mentioned that Russia and China wouldn’t initiate war against the US that they have common sense. It’s the other way around, the US wouldn’t initiate war against Russia and China because 1) USA is damn broke to its knees 2) USA just handpick lesser countries. And yes other countries would be involved because the USA can’t fight a war on its own, it need allies and aids. Well technically you are correct, however if we're talking about modern computers, (the ones you think of when you think "computers") and the actual internet we know of today, that'd be the US. Modern computers needed one thing that allowed them to move out of the giant rooms they were in and into the home: the microchip, those were invented in the US. Along with the APRANET, which was the actual forbearer of what we now know of as the Internet. I'm not saying the US was the first to think of computers or the Internet or automobiles, etc… we just made them practical and mass producible so as to bring down the prices so virtually everyone could enjoy it.

    • @list25

      Nope. ~Mike

    You missed out THE most important one: TIPPING!
    In the US it's almost DNA-ingrained, and waiters and waitresses (NOT the daft 'politically-correct' "servers") are quick to chastise low or withheld tips. In the UK, good service = appropriate tip; bad service = low or no tip (and the waiter/waitress will not complain and come running after the diner to challenge them).

    • @adam418g

      No tipping the UK whatsoever? You must be joking lol. Obviously I'm not going to tip like Americans do, but if a meal comes to like £47.84, I'd just put a £50 and then they can keep the change. Most people I know do that

      + Daniele Iannarelli In the US tips are considered part of the wage - so servers get paid less, meaning customers are guilted into paying the tips. In the UK the servers are paid a decent minimum wage and the tips are extras.

      In my experience, the British REFUSE to complain the way Americans do, i.e. when it might actually do some good. In a store or restaurant, when receiving bad service or the wrong order, etc., British people just accept it at the time, and then complain about later to anyone who'll listen. They even get embarrassed when an American dinner companion tries to make it right. They just want to avoid any fuss. It's very strange and frustrating to Americans who are used to expecting to actually get what we pay for, even if that means opening your mouth in public.

      @jorgeriveramx 8 лет назад +4

      Dian I agree that it was a collaborative effort and America played a rather important roll. Still saying "America invented the internet" is incorrect.
      It can't be "correct and not correct" at the same time.
      It's better to say America made a big contribution to the invention of the internet, or something along those lines.

    • @jorgeriveramx
      @jorgeriveramx 8 лет назад +1

      Initial concepts of packet networking originated in several computer science laboratories in the United States, United Kingdom, and France.
      When America developed TCP/IP they based their protocol in work that the French did before if I remember correctly.
      From that point internet has evolved a lot and many countries have done contributions (I'm talking about technology not content in the web).
      If we had to quantify how much America has contributed to the internet I would say that is around 35% and is the major contributor.
      But when someone say America invented the internet that's a lie.

When asked how things were? The General replied that things were a bit "Sticky". Which the American took as meaning things were a bit rough but we'll be ok. What the British meant by a bit sticky, was that they were facing overwhelming numbers of enemy, running out of ammunition. And about to be overrun any minute, so please send help. Lol. Oh, by the way, we call soccer 'football'. It has been called that since about the twelfth century. 'Soccer' was only used in the nineteenth century. There is no evidence that it comes from the word 'association', early uses suggest it was used as an insult by people who played rugby football. 'They just 'sock' the ball anywhere with their feet. (See the BBC programme 'Balderdash and Piffle' for evidence of this.)
