My mouth is watering looking at these, figs are my absolute favourite fruit of all 😍 my grandfather grew them when I was a child and I’ve loved them ever since. I’ve started to collect a few varieties myself just recently and am not so patiently waiting for them to grow and fruit. By the way, Kim in the loo calling out made me laugh 😂
That white part in the fig is called achenes, it is a flower that is needed there. There is actually hundreds of them in the fig, this one was just cut so well that it sticks out.
Nice range of fig varieties George, im hoping to get a few extra types to try this year as well. I suppose truthfully with dozens of varieties available in Australia, without a very detailed study of the fruit, leaves and taste profiles a lot of the varieties will be very hard to identify precisely 😁
everyone should plant fig trees i reckon. i currently have two in pots and my black genoa is 1 yr old and have got tons of figs off it. I used to have a birds eye fig in ground but it was destroyed in a bad storm so i chopped it up for firewood many years back. i regret not getting a cutting because it would literally produce 100's of figs each season off the single tree. however the named varieties like black genoa and white Adriatic taste much better.
I reckon your safe George, that wasn't a maggot. What happened to the Choquette avocado you got some years back? You'll need to move the temperature gauge that was under the ice cream bean now it's in the sun! I'm amazed at your success with passionfruit, tried about 4 times myself. I think I'll try again from seed this time around. As others have said, the figs grown from seed are your own varieties, they don't grow true to type, you are free to make up your own name! The spotting on the passionfruit looks like the fungus Septoria spot, which spreads in cool/damp weather.
I can't understand why you've had no luck, I've had only success with passionfruit, all purchased from Bunnings except for the newest Sweet Lilikoi. Thanks for clarifying where the volunteer fig tree came from.
How is your Soursop doing ? any fruits? Another thing, about Cherimoyas, they require high elevation in order to set good fruit, that means lower temperatures and cool nights
Soursop was just planted a few months ago. It needs to survive winter before getting to fruiting age, I'm not in the tropics! Cherimoya do fine here, lots of fruit coming.
@@RealLifeFruitopia Wow! Unexpected surprise. The reason I asked is because I have the same one just planted last year. I bought it from Bunnings without any knowledge about the fig varieties. I hope mine becomes as good as yours. Thanks!

@@RealLifeFruitopia well great to hear. I live in the tropics and have a huge rain season. And in the summer they start to look wilty so I water them, and I guess I'm watering too much and they just don't do well. Thanks for the advice
Seeing the potted ones was great too as I’m going to have to keep several in big pots. Thanks George!
You are welcome. I may end up with only potted figs too, so much easier to manage!
How often do you fertilize and what kind thanks.

I grew up eating figs too, Kim didn't have her first till 50. It's surprising how many people have never tried fresh figs!

Good to know. It just happens to resemble the fruit maggots we've been dealing with lately.
Those figs looked tasty, George!
We love them!

I'm sure some fig experts would come close to identifying the common varieties.

Yes!
I think it’s grease spot on the passionfruit- it’s a fungus-mine have been getting it for years.
Thanks!
Delicious ❤
It was!
The fruit appearance of Black Genoa fig and Brown Turkey fig are similar, just wondering which one tastes better in your opinion?
They are both excellent. Black Genoa seems to be more popular.
Great video. How do you keep the ants away from the fruit ?.
I don't

Hi George! How do you rate (out of ten) the White Genoa compared to the three you tasted on this vid?
Genoa is a 9, Brown Turkey an 8.5, Violette de Bordeaux a 9. The unknown green fig a 7.

Are you doing smudging (smoke) method of inducing your fruits to flower?
The netting is to protect the fruits from birds? 😁

If the fig was a volunteer that means it is a seedling. Cant have a 'french name'
