  • Chrono24 Interview | Moritz Grossmann laid the foundation for German watchmaking. In the 19th century, the exceptionally gifted pioneer developed technically outstanding watch models in his atelier in Glashütte, a small town in the Ore Mountains. Even though Grossmann produced pocket watches, pendulum clocks and measuring instruments he was more than just a craftsman. He gave lectures, published a lot of books about his work and founded the German School of Watchmaking in 1878.
More than 100 years later, Christine Hutter, a watchmaker herself, discovered the heritage of Moritz Grossmann and established a new manufacture in Glashütte. As the CEO of Moritz Grossmann, she made sure that the timepieces of Moritz Grossmann go back to the roots of German Watchmaking artistry. That’s why everything is handcrafted. From the tiniest details to the complete movement. Moritz Grossmann even produces the hands by hand with techniques that include grinding with diamond files and annealing over an open flame.
Moritz Grossmann invited us to Glashütte to visit their marvelous manufactury and to talk to Christine Hutter about the history of the brand, the manufacturing process an some of the brand’s most extraordinary watches like the Benu Tourbillon and the Tefnut Twist. This spring I had the chance to visit Moritz Grossmann and also Christine Hutter. It is really impressive what she achieved in just 10 years. The workshops, movements and also the James Bond like building are absulutely fantastic. For me, Moritz Grossmann is my favorite Glashütte brand.

Sounds like Christine Hutter has done to Moritz Grossmann what Jean Claude Biver did with Blancpain. Good for her. I love the Grossman designs, I just cannot afford them.

I saw these watches on William & Sons shop website in London. I was intrigued by many models so am now researching! I like the ATUM Date and I find the Sleeping Beauty a very nice ladies watch... Whether ladies I know would agree or not I don't know!
