I was a medical student in Florence when Macchiarini became Professor there. I remember his name in the newspaper everyday, as the Tuscany politicians strongly wanted him. Then once in Florence, the thoracic surgery school doctors just hated him and tried everything to kick him out. It was my opinion that we had a superstar and we lost him to the Karolinska because of the envy of his Italian colleagues… It was the 2010.

This is a really good summary of the whole disaster, tbh. I'm glad he's finally being tried in court, but honestly there's no prison time he can be sentenced to that will undo the immense harm he caused.
Personally, I'd like to see consequences for the people whose negligence let him continue for as long as he did, as well...

Both of the versions of this song are great
The original Swedish one has some brilliant wordplay that doesn’t work in English, but this one has its highlights too
I, too, came from Medlife Crisis, but I think I’ll stick around.
This song managed to both be humourous and treat the subject matter with the gravity it deserves

” so he planted stem cells in a garden hose “ that is so horrible
It was just a piece of plastic pipe and he thought it would grow to another organ and he experimented on humans . It wasn’t even tested on animals !!
These patients were tortured to death slowly . They suffered horribly in their last moments
If my trachea was damaged and I had to choose between death and having this thing operated in me
I would choose death easily .
Thank you henrik for this serious song telling the story about paolo the so called surgeon

    • @adrianflo6481
      @adrianflo6481 2 года назад +1

He is still a surgeon, and a pretty good one at that specific job. Its like saying that a person writing a super star Virus is a "so called hacker".
That being said we might want to remember that Karolinska institute started out as the Swedish State institute of race biology in 1922, inspiring Hitler.

The reminder about protocol requiring animal testing first reminds me of an article I read regarding the "no animal testing" craze. The author pointed out that if a new product advertises it was not tested on animals. that means it was tested on humans instead. Probably the first customers.

      1. Unless you are highly educated in medicin, you'll never understand your options. You would be chosing between "dying a horrible death" or "risk of dying a horrible death with a chance to survive".
      2. Self perservation will make the absolute majority chose the alternative where survival is possible, no matter the threat of pain and agony.

You know Doctor, this song obviously is about an awful topic but you have really done the poor victims proud I think - their stories deserve to be heard, they need to be heard. And for what it's worth, I much prefer this version to the other one, the tone really suits the gravity of the subject. Haunting. Thanks to you, all who have heard this song will never forget this story.

Yes, Dr Paolo did Not care about his own patients! He never did follow up, no matter how badly his patients suffered post-operation! Nor he ever kept tabs on his patients, even when the other Doctors reached out to him! He did not return their phone calls! It is these same Doctors that had to watch Dr Paolo M’s patients experience terrible, painful outcomes and deaths!
      He is likely a Psychopath!
Yet, many said how charming, warm, mesmerizing he was when he spoke! He fooled many!
Also, his previous colleagues did try to tell the Karolinska Institute in Sweden Not to hire him, that his research was suspect and untrustworthy, but they were ignored!
It is hard to fathom how this Dr didn’t show empathy to even his very young patients! He has Children himself!

What he did is so far from a laughing matter, the way he destroyed and ended life, the way the whistle blowers were treated and the way the board of KI dragged our amazing Institute and Hospitals name in the mud.
BUT this song was spot on, just what we needed, it’s so tragic that feeling it is too much to handle. So being able to laugh at his stupidity and pathetic excuse for a doctor is just brilliant 😂😭

"...... and unfortunately every word in this song is true." These words make me so sad because they are true! I am Italian and I didn't know this story. I knew it with your song, Dottor Henrik. As a ballad is a marvellous ballad. A very good ballad. And, this Italian Doctor, is....... I am not sure what he is. In Italy, quite everybody doesn't speak about him, because televisions, papers, and, finally, the "media" don't speak about this "story". After I listened about your song I did some research, an Internet research, I knew about him. It is quite impossible that most Italians doesn't know about this "fellow-countryman"; I'll pray for the victims and their relatives. And I hope their souls are in Heaven. ❤❤❤

I’m sure he started off with good intentions, really wanting to help. I mean he is a thoracic surgeon after all… but I suspect greed entered the picture… I mean even his relationships with women revealed a very narcissistic nature to him… power hungry… almost sociopathic tendencies…. I could barely sleep last night after watching it. As a budding physician I kept thinking… at what point do physicians miss it? When do I go from caring to cruel… it was a hard night for me I tell ya.

Why ‘almost’ sociopathic!? I believe he is sociopathic and maybe, worse , ‘a Psychopath!’
He definitely showed he did Not care about his patients! He did not follow up on them, nor ever asked their physicians, nor returned any phone calls from these physicians!! The patients he operated on were just subjects for his experiments , not real people!
Dr Paolo did not follow even the set medical and ethical protocols! Worse, his superiors , medical foreign institutions and staff let him do it! Never held him accountable and severely punished the whistleblowers!
For some years, he was ‘untouchable’! That is some extraordinary charm he had to fool hundreds of the highly-educated, medical professional people!!
We all like to have hope and believe in medical ‘miracles’, even if routinely unsubstantiated!
There were set established protocols that could have saved lives, if they were followed!

He had Not followed any set protocols, nor checked with the Ethics Committee! He was allowed to get away with not following the whole number of procedures!
He performed this surgery on over 17 patients around the World, incl two very young Children! All died , except one ( whose implant was removed)!
So, why was there such extraordinary trust on the international level? None of the foreign hospitals questioned his methods!??
I suppose, it is bc his methods were considered Pioneer!
No one asked about his animal studies, how his other patients fared!? Blind trust!?
His charm must have been hypnotic and extraordinary! His self-confidence mesmerizing!
The whistleblowers , Doctors, were severely punished and sued, reputations tarnished, lost grants, etc!
I know of only one Whistleblower , a Research Dr specialist, that recovered his reputation, charges dismissed, but only after Three Years of being treated badly!
