I bet they are trying to exploit the possibility of the govt. buying them in bulk etc., perhaps. There are literally garbage cans and plastic etc., chairs bought by the US govt./military for ~80+ bucks a pop supposedly. If they sell it to non-gov. consumers for ~15 bucks or something, govt. can perhaps say, "well, why are we getting them for 80?". Aha, hence they may make more money in short term, by getting those govt. contracts and just pumping the prices to exploit that perhaps. They may sell for less, if the company decide to lower prices and or if they get competition from a similar type product perhaps.
It's not a ripoff. It's a convenient way to season your food quickly.

Yup, pepper spray and tasers are useless against drugged up suspects. Tasers in particular are laughably ineffective. the prongs usually just snag up in clothing and never hit, and a quick hand swipe by the target can sever the wires.

When someone tries to break into your home while you're there that means they're probably armed. This isn't the solution against a gun, knife, machete, or hatchet. HPD and the local prosecutor have law-abiding citizens in fear of going to jail for protecting themselves and their loved ones in their own home that they're coerced into believing this is a viable replacement for a firearm. It's not. When seconds count, HPD is minutes away. If lucky they'll get there in time to trample the crime scene aftermath.
Hell this isn't even a good form of self defense against a home invader with a full bladder.

While Hawaii now has concealed carry permits your only allowed to carry in the county you were issued the permit. Even then they throw a ton of restrictions in your way. The clueless will buy a ton of these sticks thinking they are now protected.

Saw this and decided to built one. Mine turned out way better and was free to make with stuff i had around the house minus the cost of the co2 cartrage. Made my shells packed with diatomaceous earth and ground carolina reaper seeds. Pathetic company is trying to profit of crime. Selling them for that price should be a crime!

co2 cartridges are pretty cheap if you buy in bulk at a big box retail store. Got a 40 pack of crossman 12g for $20.62.

Disclaimer: Not for use on windy days or life and death scenarios.
They make pepper ball guns that will create much more deterence, and they hold multiple shots (5 or 6) for multiple attackers. They fire both irritant and impact balls. They can be used over and over. They don't cost much more than $80 for a decent one. Then the ammo balls are pretty affordable for impact balls, a little pricey for pava, and tear gas rounds, but they pack a punch!
You can even get extra spicy, extra thumpy, and extra cheapy for everything from practice/hobby shooting to rather effective self-defense. Several people have volunteered to get shot with them to test efficacy, and almost all of them say you don't want none of it. Even the pepper/pava rounds cause impact pain, and then the snot and tears commence.
Even for 2A guys they’re a nice Segway between a harsh word and lethal force.
