To be able to automatically roam between access points you need some type of wireless controller to manage the SSID and associated APs. There are now small office / home office wireless setups that do provide this type of service, but when using a regular extender or just adding a second regular AP to your network you are running a completely separate SSID to access the same network.

Wi-Fi is not dangerous. what you want to do is use it as an access point, not as a repeater. This requires a wired Ethernet connection to your existing network. When used as a repeater, it has to use half its Wi-Fi bandwidth to communicate with the router, which means that any devices connected to it lose half their speed.
As long as that Ethernet cable is connected to your router or to a switch that's connected to your router, yes. If it's connected to your modem, it needs to connect to the WAN/Internet port of your router.

But it's firmware gives choice of a "station" or "AP" mode. It's "Station" by default and works fine. In fact switching to "AP" mode does not connect me to the internet and says something like "looking for users". So...it's not an "AP" out of the box??? Can't get it to work in AP mode anyway.
"AP" mode disables the router part of the device. You'd use AP mode if you have a separate router that you're connecting it to, as a router is always necessary for internet access. In "station" mode it is both an AP and router.

What i WANT is for it to be the SAME network as my original, not a second wireless network showing up. HOW DO I DO IT??
for the secondary router, you have to set it to amplify the existing signal in the operating mode settings. It varies for every router but look through the options it gives you, many times it explains what each does.

Those are also routers. Think of an AP as a wireless switch, it only understands MAC addresses and doesn't deal with IP addresses. It will always broadcast on the same subnet it's connected to.
There is no mistake here. A modem provides signaling for connectivity across a wire but the function of a router is what routes all of your traffic out to the internet.

A direct connection from a modem to a device thru a cable is the basic network configuration ...the router only provides a means to connect multiple devices to the internet thru a modem... Without a modem a router can not access the internet

Routers have nothing to do with Wi-Fi, they just route data traffic between different networks.
