  • Watch the three-part Britain's Treasure Islands documentary series on BBC FOUR, starting Tue 12 Apr 2016 21:00. (repeated Wed 13 Apr 2016 20:00).
    This mini-documentary showcases the wildlife, history and cultural heritage of Tristan da Cunha - the most remote inhabited island in the world. In this film we find out how the Tristanian live, by fishing the rich waters nearby the island that support vast seabird colonies, including penguins, and large populations of fur seals. On land, we find albatrosses and we follow the Tristanians' Ratting Day activities in which the native wildlife is protected by controlling numbers of invasive rodents.
    This film is one of forty mini-documentaries made from the footage not used in the broadcast series.
    Visit www.BritainsTre... to view all 40 mini-documentaries free of charge.
    Please note: although complementary to the BBC FOUR series, the 40 short mini-documentaries are not commissioned or editorially overseen by BBC.

    I'm also from a former British Colony, Ceylon as it was known then..
    Though I am not an admirer of the British then, I am truely truely admired by the beauty of the islands and the super filming of the programme series..
    Absolutely breathtaking ...
    If budget permits I would visit Ascension Islands one day ....

      I’m geology/gemology nerd and find Sri Lanka (along with Madagascar and East Africa) to be some of the most fascinating places in terms of natural beauty and gem sources. The temples and tea plantations in Sri Lanka look stunning, though!

    Классно, встречаются еще заповедные места, первый раз узнала об этом острове в детстве, когда читала "Пятнадцатилетнего капитана" Жюль Верна, любимая книга была и фильм!

    They could start by spelling the name of the Archipelago correctly in the opening of the video, it is Cunha not Cuhna. Cunha being the name of the Portuguese explorer that located the islands in 1506.

    How convenient of you to leave out how this island got its name. Typical English. You'll do anything to discredit the Portuguese. Shame on you!

    • @stuross6376
      @stuross6376 4 года назад +8

      I am sure the presenter did not mean to offend The Portuguese. The name of the Island is of course Portuguese in origin. I guess the documentary was only focusing on the wildlife. The English have a long history of good relations with Portugal. I hope it continues. Best Wishes.
