I call bullshit on Al saying the ecw guys wouldve toned it down had the cte stuff been known then. Those guys popularized and literally made their living off mutilating their bodies in a hundred different ways anyone with common sense knew was detrimental short term and long. He may not like it but his 90s band of ecw misfits still bears some responsibility for these young guys like Perry wanting to still do these spots. Because of ECW that hardcore shit showed up more and more in wcw and wwf. I dont want people getting hurt but I like the head chairshots as back shots always feel so lame and tame compared to what we used to see, and these aggressive muscular wrestlers clearly always going out of their way to not headshot never looks good or makes logical sense to watch. Like guys who hate each other are still looking out for each other. You can get your hands up, when your not handcuffed.

Brain damage from chair shots was known but it got more press in 06 because of the medical tests.
Come on there were a million unprotected chair shots in the 90s..one or two isn't gonna hurt. Is he making it a regular thing or?

There are plenty of stories and even video of Vinny Mac doing the stunt himself. He took plenty of chair shots in his matches so Vinny Mac did walk the walk. Tony Khan took the weakest bump to a gut punch

That's the trouble with small incremental damage though. Since most of the time they got back to normal pretty quickly, people thought that recovery was done. they didn't realise the small bits of damaging adding up in the background

It’s not “gimmicked”, Meltzer is the ONLY one reporting that. That impact was way too solid for the chair to be shaved and “gimmicked” sounds like you got worked by Meltzer trying to justify why it’s ok for TK to do it but everyone are terrible people for unprotected chair shots to the head. Mark
@@robdurfee6861 As far as I understand it, the way you gimmick a chair for a headshot is to dent it beforehand and push it back in to place. That way, the second time it is hit, it takes a loot less force to make the dent. Nothing to do with shaving the chair, which is presumably trying to wear down the back so the metal is thinner. From what I know about metals, shaving it would make it sharper if it splits and make it a bit more dangerous for lacerations. None of that matters if the shot itself lands with the tubes that support the seat which looks like it was the case here.
The worst part of this is you know some indie goofs are going to try to do similar spots either without gimmicking the chair or doing it in the wrong way.
I remember Chris Nowinski. He reminded me of Chunk from Goonies. I thought he was a pretty good heel, but then I remember he kept disappearing and I was reading about him having concussions and I was just like "C'mon, man, get over it already!" He ruined wrestling with his whining.
Im personally not against these types of spots in wrestling. Everyone is aware of the dangers of hits to the head, and if someone is willing to take the risk, then so be it.
Some might say these spots are unnecessary now, and sure, they may be. But these more dangerous spots are still entertaining and still bring back a real, unpredictable feeling that was once there in a bygone era.
You’re not against it because you’ve never suffered a real concussion before most likely. If you have, you wouldn’t leave comments like this.
