Okay, when you explain "put your partner over your children" in that way, it's not as horrible as I have always imagined (and witnessed). However, often when people say "I pick my children over my partner", it's because the partner is hurting the children. And the partner can take care of himself, whereas the children are helpless. It's our duty as parents to protect them. But, if it's more like "my 4 yo hates when we leave him with the sitter and go on a date, but I choose to prioritize my relationship more than the whim of my child", yes, I agree that's healthy. It's when it's "my husband is yelling at my 4yo for stepping in a puddle and getting his shoe wet, but I'm going to let him go on with his irrational rage because I choose my husband over my child", that's where I cannot agree.
I have always hated the expression "work wife" or "work husband". It's such an insult to the real spouse. Great info on communication as always!
Keenly observed, and lovingly related. Thank you.
