Slave auctions were common during the Slave trade, they were sold depending on age, gender, physical condition - it was so depraved they were treated as property

Yes and it happened in every where in the world.
Africa had big slave markets way before Europians came there too to buy slaves.

Yeah there were slave auctions. They even had price lists regarding gender, age, build etc. Horrible.

Slavery was a dark and embarrassing era in U.S. history. It's great that Key and Peele make fun of it like this. You guys are awesome, especially 'Loud Girl', you are so cute!😁

$6?. A healthy buck could cost over $10k easily. Imagine that in 2025 $$. That’s what the civil war was about. $$$$$

    Two things
It said that it was in Savannah ga. But there are no mountains near Savannah
Also the largest slave auction in American history did happen in Savannah in 1863 or so

A slave in 1850 cost about $17,000-40,000 USD in modern dollars or about 4 times the yearly wages of the average worker then.

      That depends on the slave

That’s entirely inaccurate. Don’t spread misinformation.
You can read slave ledgers with slaves being sold for less than $3,000 dollars from that time period and that only took me 1 minute to find on google. I guarantee you with 5 more minutes of research I can find slaves being sold for not only less than that but more than that from that period. Your cost estimate isn’t reflective on how diverse the market was at that time with regard to buying slaves
I feel as though you are trying to perpetuate the lie that “only rich people had slaves”
Another misconception that can be proven false with less than 1 minute of research
Not only were the vast MAJORITY of slaveowners NOT WEALTHY, poor whites participated in slavery as well, as overseers, enforcers, slave catchers/patrol, and more

That’s why people had options where you could rent them instead of buying them. Not even joking. FYI, the loophole that you were born one if your mother was one meant that you could essentially create new ones without having to buy anyone. It didn’t matter if the owner was the father. That’s in part why they changed the laws because shipping people over across the sea was too expensive especially since they treated them so poorly on the voyage. Survival rates were a concern. Plus, the brutality of the initial experience especially in the Carribean was so high that people didn’t last very long. Once they made it into a commodity that you could have for generations, people started doing more to make them “last”. They also started punishing them for self harming behaviors very aggressively.
