Six or more minutes into this video and all I've gotten is what I can read on the Spook website. Why? Eight plus minutes in and we are finally getting to the meat of all this. This video, with all the great information could be so much stronger and more people could get more from it with some better editing. FWIW.
FOUR MINUTES INTO THE VIDEO AND I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HECK THIS IS. GAVE UP
He does babble on a bit too much and I too am leaving early
Why watch a video you know is 30m and give up 4m in?
@@SamKatakouzinos He didn't know how much useless chatter there would be in advance of watching did he... come on...
@@SamKatakouzinos I explained why.
Yes. I talked too much. When I looked at the recording timer near the end (and mentioned it in the video) I was shocked how long it went on. I mentioned something the other day to someone about a video I watched and said "that person used about 3000 too many words to get the point across". I can understand how this video falls into that category. It needs chapters also. Something I thought was mainly a YT gimmick that didn't get used but now I see that maybe those are actually worthwhile.
Frenck always does great stuff. I'm going to use this to clean up my 4+ year HA instance. Thanks.
Video needs chapters
Thanks for the feedback. Never really knew of those were useful or not. Takes some extra time to add those.
It’s actually a must have helps keep your home assistant cleaner.
Hello Chris! I recently had a problem with the Tuya integration and every Tuya-entity disappeared from HA but also from my automations. I remembered I had seen your video about Spook and I just installed it. Spook quickly highlighted all problems related to my automations, this is great! Thanks for sharing this integration with your subscribers.
Outstanding! Thanks to Frenck for making this add-on.
Any updates on your experience with this Custom Integration. Still as happy as expected?
Skip to 9:00. You’ll thank me later
Haha. Skip all my bantering!
I get it lol! Thank you for this video. I'm trying Spook and will be referring back to the video for guidance. So much time is needed focusing on HA set up /dashboard which (mine) is a mess!
Thanks for the PSA on HA Backups... good reminder to verify my backup is working.
Yeah..I've had to restore a couple of times over the years and soooo glad I had a backup.
Very powerful, but be very careful when using it. Make a good backup before, I happened to have to restore the backup because HA had become corrupted
Backups are a MUST as mentioned in the video!
After you fix a repair item - how do you get it to "re-scan / refresh" - without rebooting HA - thanks for posting - great content
The Dutch pronunciation for Spook is actually virtually identical to the English "Spoke". The sound of the O is like the O in ghost.
Go to 4:18 to skip over the redundant disclaimer schtick and find out what it is for and/or what it does...or better yet, the recap at 26:50. That "not your homey" catchphrase got old incredibly fast.
I wonder how many people stopped watching because the first 30% of the video has a lot of words that pretty much mean nothing to anyone other than 1 simple warning with ZERO context. 😞
Please just say "hacks" instead of H-A-C-S hahaha
Didn't know how polarizing H A C S vs HACKS was. I'll try to remember the "official" pronunciation in future videos. 😂
Great video, thanks for all your time and efforts. I can see a few times I could make use of this, but I am too much of a noob and think I may not live long enough to understand everything in HA and how to manipulate it. Still....
Haha. I bet you'll use it one day. Starting with a fresher install than mine might yield fewer issues.
Nice reading.
11 minute in and i still don't know what spook is
Gonna play with this, thanks!
I'd like to see a tour of Frenck's home...
Looks interesting. I may install it - just for the repairs. Then remove it
That works too.
Do people not say Hacks?
Some people do yes.
Back up advice..best part of this! LOL. Been there Homie.
Agreed!
Great Video! I really like this tool. Spook helped me clean up some dead/renamed entities in automations and dashboards. This is a really good tool to check out flaws in your HA build. I fixed ten automations and three dashboards. Thanks!!!!!
Glad it was helpful. Credit goes to Frenck for providing it and maintaining it!
I installed spook immediately after seeing this video, thanks!
Excellent. Wonder if it found anything for you.
It found a hidden dashboard with a lot of old/removed entities, and 2 automations with removed entities @@mostlychris
It did that for me too. Dashboard was called overview and I actually had to delete a file to remove it since I am using mixed yaml and non-yaml dashboards. Still trying to clean up the rest of the bits of that one.
Enough with not your homie
In hindsight, not a s funny as it seemed when recording.
8:43 lol
Twelve minutes into this video and all I know now is that there are 12 minutes of warnings.
Useless crap.
This one got a little long for sure. Probably should have dropped a bit more on the editing floor.
@@mostlychris
Not that I was saying YOUR CONTENT was crap. The 12 minutes of warnings that Frenk put on there is insanely ridiculous.
I like your content. I'm subscribed to you.
@@OGKenG Ahh ok. Thanks for the clarification. Thanks for subscribing and watching!
Tough crowd in the comment section 😅 Mostlychris FTW
Yep. It's a long and wordy video. All I can do is take the feedback and make things better next time.
Frenck must be a Linux person, lol. Jus kidding
15:24 Shame on you. You should not need spook to have a overview off missing entities, just like backups you should know to remove devices that is not active anymore, to keep a clean and functional home assistant.
After 12min. into this video, first time on your channel I got really borred.
Try some other videos where I didn't ramble on quite as much. I agree that this one was a bit too long. Feedback is always welcome.
@@mostlychris I'm not new to your channel. I quite like it. Just this video made me lose the interest.
rename your channel to mostly talking without substance .. geez
Yep. Got long winded on this one.
Trying to be funny so hard and it still didn’t work: spook is not your homey
HA Powertools lol
Exactly.
sorry but this video is stupidly vague. I know you want viewer minutes and clicks but you're not getting mine with this babble.
