I completely agree. When I was just an E-nothing in the Navy I knew I didn't like the idea of someone giving me orders to do something. So I took initiative instead. Guess what? No one ever told me what to do. Everyone just stood back and allowed me to do my thing. It's been like that my entire life.

'Have learned a lot from Jocko. Disciplining yourself, discipline within a Team, discipline from good parents, discipline from a good Company with whom your in a mutually beneficial relationship are all different from discipline from less benign places. Breaking the rules of less benign places is tactically sound and sometimes the only way to protect yourself and your charges.

We got to make our own rules and parent our selfs, growing up I didn't had much supervision, for circumstance, and did what I wanted many times. I learned that if I don't tell my self " No Saralee, you can't!" I will screw my self, "No drugs".... etc..

For young people who are going to try this path, it’s a lonely one. If you’re not born to do this then don’t. There’s no shame.

If your think you know what your are talking about enough to tell people what to do your probably wrong, and if you do then you'd be smart enough to focus inward and apply what you know to your self and not self righteously tell others what to do based on what you believe, besides if your trying to tell people don't do what they don't feel like doing then people will do whatever they want, inspite of what is good for them, and feelings are temporary and need to be controled regulated and dispersed, stiffle your emotions is a quote from joko, don't imply people are born insert such way here, especially in life style, such things as those are not subjective, but objective things pursuable, biology can be over come and mentality feelings and mind sets are manipulatable and temperable, we are born with freedom, if it was not true then free will simply would not excist, and what you said would be void anyway, just as void and erelavent as it is in the real world where we live with the choice to choose our own destiny.
Also implying lack of aggency is just victem mentality, escape we all have personal agency to grow and escape our vices, do it. Stay hard.

I usually agree with most everything Jocko says... But this time he is just plain wrong. If you work hard and make a lot of money the money doesn't stop ruling you. It can, but most of the time it doesn't. And if you eat healthy and work out you won't be ruled by disease and sickness? Again, that can correlate but is not always true. Someone perfectly fit can get a disease and die at 35. Someone who eats super healthy can still get sick.
