This is our commentary reaction to the movie "Bubble Boy" (2001). A coming-of-age comedy follows the life of Jimmy Livingston (Jake Gyllenhaal), a young man born without immunities and raised in a manufactured world provided by his well-intentioned, but misguided mother (Swoosie Kurtz). But when he realizes that he's in love with Chloe (Marley Shelton), the girl next door, he has no choice but to build a mobile bubble suit, and set off across the country to Niagara Falls, to stop Chloe's wedding -- which is only seven days away -- in time to confess his love.

Finally someone is reacting to this gem hidden in time. Many of us saw it in our childhood and it suddenly disappeared.
October Sky is a hidden gem with Jake Gyllenhaal
💯
One of my favorite movies ever.
It will always blow my mind this movie released the same year as Donnie Darko. Talk about range
This just blew my mind...never realized this.
I didn't watch donnie darko til later... I didn't know this 😮
Donnie Darko is perfect for the channel. You'll either love it or hate it.
From bubble boy to Donnie Darko : p
From bubble Boy to Brothers! 😢
(Donnie Darko is amazing)
*Danny Darko (according to Anthony)
Donnie Darko came out first though
From bubble boy to jarhead
Need it
Strange wilderness go into it thinking Nature documentary and you’ll be fine
Yes!
Strange Wilderness is amazing!
I just wanted to say thank you for covering such an unironically underrated gem and cult classic. I genuinely love this movie so much, and seeing people talk about it positively makes me happy!
I truly think that if this movie came out at a different time people would have loved it.
Also did you know it was later adapted into a musical?
I cannot believe you reacted to this film!! Growing up we weren't allowed to watch comedies, because of the inappropriate jokes in a lot of them. My parents always watched stuff 1st then they would say if we could watch it afterward or they would return it to the library if we couldn't.
This was one of the 1st comedies I was actually allowed to watch so it holds such a special place in my heart! And I wish more people reacted to it/ or even knew of its existence lol Pineapple Express, Bubble Boy, Accepted with Justin Long, and Anger Management were the 1st 4 I could watch.
I still know the Bright and Shiny song lyrics to this very day 🤣 And the FIVE HUNDRED DOLLA dialogue and Depends ingrained in my memory until the end of time lol
I forgot how great this movie was, you really should do "dude where's my car"
The Bright and Shiny cult need their own movie. That song is awesome.
There is one important line that explains why the dad went along with it. He asks his son what it was like out there. He felt trapped too, worn down and brainwashed by his wife's madness.
This is actually on of my favorite movies. I haven't seen it in a while, so I'm glad I could watch the highlights with y'all.
I do have a fondness for this film. I used to have it recorded on VHS, remember those days? It's such "big day out" type of feel good movie, but the craziest thing about this film is that the most notable thing in it, for me anyway, was Fabio's cameo as a cult leader 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Pappy was in Wayne's World too. And survived.
Mark is Doofy from Scary Movie
I ran around screaming “500 DOLLA!” everywhere for any reason lol good movie
To this day I got a buddy who when we chat if any hundred and dollar are mentioned in passing we stop and scream this line lol.
I feel slightly responsible for this reaction😁 5 more sleepers: The Green Hornet, Eight-Legged Freaks, The 51st State, Rob the Mob, The Heat(2013)
Donnie Darko is an amazing movie. You both have to watch the theatrical version not the Director.”s cut because it explains everything about the movie. The theatrical version makes you think of what happened
Donnie Darko absolutely, my friend showed me both versions of that movie in college and we spent hours theory crafting afterwards
I have (and still) watch this movie 5-6 times a year since it's release...never saw it in the theater. And I still laugh my ass off every time-VATOS!!!
Whoa! I never thought I'd ever see anyone react to this movie. This is a pleasant surprise. I love this movie.
@14:35 my brain for no reason whatsoever!! 😂😂
Two of Jake's earlier, smaller roles were in the City Slickers movies playing Billy Crystal's son
I was here to remind people of City Slickers as well. Jake’s debut film.
2:50 she's just imitating state schools
Say It Isn’t So by the same guys that did Dumb and Dumber, There’s Something About Mary
There's also Boy in the plastic bubble starring John Travolta
I like naive and innocent characters
"An electrical rock music guitar!"
What really made me laugh was that you referenced blue in the mud wrestling scene and didn't realize that he was the driver and the pilot (Pappy/Pippy) in this movie. 😂
More people need to watch these types of movies
Nice such a classic comedy!
This one is a gem... it really shows how crazy this world can be, but also how having a positive attitude can really get you far. Definitely give Donnie Darko a watch, but go for the director's cut as it's a bit confusing otherwise. Great reaction!
one of my favorite movies of all time
Donny Darko is wild and out of the box movie. love it.
This the first film that introduced me to Jake Gyllenhaal, and afterwards I seen him in Donnie Darko, The Day After Tomorrow, Prince of Persia, and now Spider Man Far From Home.
11:10 how dare she get scared by Beetle Pimp 😆
As weird and offbeat as the majority of the movie is, it has one of *the* best romantic lines at the end, with Jimmy's "I'd rather spend one minute holding you than the rest of my life knowing I never could."
As for comedy recommendations, can't go wrong with anything Mel Brooks related! "Spaceballs" or "Dracula: Dead & Loving It" (the last comedy he Directed) are good bets.
Anthony: I hate Sponge-Bob
Me: Did we just become best friends?
Seriously though, I highly request that you watch Tommy Boy, for sure.
Looking at you Kacee! LoL
Demolition Man, Dirty Work & Heavyweights would be fun too!
Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, Son-In-Law, Saving Silverman, Waiting, Due Date...I can go on forever!
Thanks you 2!
Keep coming with the fire!
The girl that played Chloe was Wendy Peffercorn from the sandlot
Broken Lizard's Club Dread
Can anyone tell me what the secret ingredient to "Coconut" Pete's Paella?
This was my favorite movie growing up. I watched it when I was home sick from school and it put me in the best mood.
Watch Donny Darko in October it makes a great Halloween movie
Love this movie!
"Don't live in regret, ese."
Man I remember this movie my mom showed it to me and she was dying everytime she would watch it 😂
Donnie Darko! That was the first movie I saw Jake in. It's a trip of a movie. Not super straight forward, but still good
20:39 Best reaction ever.
I saw "don't live in regret, esse" solely because of this movie 😂
All around great movie from my teen times. I've seen this first before dark and knew the music already, knew Beatle juice and Fabio and that paint from big fish. Lots of stars and what a great reaction front you two. 😂😂😂😂😂
Pippy? Pappy? Poontang? Punani! Punani!
That shit always cracks me up
I haven’t seen this in so long, it was great seeing y’all react to it 😂😂😂
I LOVE THIS FILM! I don't know why I'm yelling. Also, the fact that one of the Todds would become Master Chief almost 20 years later is blowing my mind. "Bright... and Shiny!"
Lies. There's only one Master chief.
This is an underrated movie that I love. Glad you had fun with it. Some random recs: Kung Pow: Enter the Fist, Joe Dirt, Black Knight. Love ya bye 🎉
The heartbreak kid with Ben Stiller
@Dos Cavazos actually Jake Gyllenhaal's very first film was the 1991 film "City Slickers"
My favorite movie of Jake Gyllenhaal movie is October Sky which is based off a true story. I remember seeing the trailer as a teen when I worked at a movie theater. I forgot the name of the movie and people were telling me I have to watch October Sky. I went to see it and I was like this is the movie I wanted to see. It is still one of my favorite Jake Gyllenhaal movies. That is a movie you have to watch. What funny im from Chicago area and I’d always visited Knoxville TN to visit my cousins. I never knew the film was filmed in Knoxville TN. I have never visited the locations of the filming but I have to one day
49mins ago when you were posting this comment, I was rewatching an October Sky reaction.
@@tempsitch5632 oh nice lol
Totally forgot Mark is also Doofy from Scary Movie lmao 🤣
The day after tomorrow is another great jake movie!
The first time I ever heard the word 'Poon tang and Poo nanny'. Also John Carrol Lynch has been in a ton of stuff. I remember him as Drew Careys brother.
Donnie Darko is good for Halloween
You can't forget about "The Day After Tomorrow" was a good Jake movie.
Y'all should definitely watch Donnie Darko.
Another movie you guys might like is "Just one of the guys"
Jake's first movie was City Slickers
I highly recommenced as a comedy in your comedy faze of movies Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Classic!!!
Fun time reaction as always. Some possible comedy options could be the Harold and Kumar series, maybe some Ryan Reynolds with Waiting and/or Van Wilder, Hot Tub Time Machine might be a solid one off as well. Thanks again for the fun.
When you were asking what movie you most associate Jake Gyllenhaal with, my immediate response was Donnie Darko. First thing I ever saw him (and his sister too) in. (Correction: Apparently he was in City Slickers as the son of Billy Crystal's character, so technically that'd be the first thing I ever saw him in. Was not aware of that until looking at his imdb page just now, though. And he only would've been on-screen for what? the first and last 10 minutes?)
I had completely forgotten already that he had a role in Spider-Man just a few years ago.
You wan five hunnin dolla?!???!?! Lulz. I still quote this whenever I can.
Donnie Darko, gotta watch the directors cut!!! in my opinion its the only way to watch the movie.
Great reaction guys, Donnie Darko is A MUST WATCH for Jake Gyllenhaal movies.
Donnie Darko is a must see!
I quote the 500 dolla scene regularly haha
L on hating Spongebob. (First 3 seasons at least)
Love This Movie..
Thanks for reminding me of it...
Reminds me of...
Blast From the Past
Or Joe Dirt in some way. Both movies are like a road movie and feature some good characters and both characters find something important in their life: Joe finding his parents and Jimmy finding his girlfriend.
Cannibal! The Musical is a cult classic, musical comedy, that is worth a reaction.
Seconding this. Such a good movie.
The guy She thought was Stiffler is actually Special Officer Doofy from scary movie :P
A comedy I recommend would be the 1981 movie "Neighbors," starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.
Donnie Darko is amazing.
Please react to Donnie Darko! Such a great movie!
Also, comedies to react to that I think you haven't reacted to: Superbad. Knocked Up. Step Brothers. Waiting... This is 40 (follow up, sort of, to Knocked Up), Pineapple Express. Cop Out. Zoolander. About Time (more rom-com, but I love the actors and the movie). Office Space. The Hangover movies. Road Trip.
I haven't seen this in soooo long I missed it I remember watching this a lot with my sister
I've been saying bebbe Boy 15 minutes now.😂
1:26 Donnie Darko is one of my all-time favourite movies. If you do watch it, I'd recommend the Director's Cut, it explains things a bit more.
I definitely recommend Donnie Darko
I love this movie, remake wasn't bad either just very different tone. SO many cameo's how can anyone not like this movie. A film people didn't appreciate at the time but grew better with age. Rare a movie does that.
THE WEDDING RINGER
October Sky and Jarhead are great Jake Gyllenhaal movies.
You can not say this Film did not made fun of everybody.
Lol I have a funny view of Spongebob. I grew up in rural Ireland, so not a lot of TV stations, but one of them was TG4 (we'd say it TG-ceathair, which is four in Irish) and everything on that station was spoken in Irish, including Spongebob. So I did grow up watching Spongebob, but not the same version most of the world did 😂😂😂 And I'll point out that I don't actually speak that much Irish so I couldn't understand that much of it 😂😂
Yeah you definitely must watch Donnie Darko
Gunna celebrate 420 early with this one 😊
A movie that both of you likely have neither seen that you should react to is Harold and Maude
It's from the 70s, Cat Stevens does the soundtrack for the film
Similar to Simon and Garfunkel doing the soundtrack to The Graduate, another classic comedy film that this movie references in the wedding scene here. The Graduate stars Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft
“FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAAAA”!
You NEED to see Donnie Darko. It was a cult film for a reason. Its VERY good.
Its where Dalton met Dalton. Patrick Swayze is also in the film and they formed a friendship IRL. Hence the new Roadhouse starring Gylenhal. Nobody else would be allowed to do it
this was the first movie i saw zack galifinakis in. he's played this role a dozen times.
i'm wearing ankle weights
"Bubble boy sounds funny"
That's because it is (the movie, not the poor kid that actually lived through that).
Awesome reaction and SpongeBob is amazing.
The HUGE dude that's a part of the 'freaks' also plays 'Tiny' in House of 1000 Copses.
In case you didn't realize by that final scene, that wasn't Sean William Scott (Stiffler), he's an actor named Dave Sheridan. You saw him as 'Doofy' in Scary Movie. They do have that jawline, though!
I think y'all would absolutely love the movie, Happy Texas..
Kaycee gets the W for figuring out the Munchausen from the jump 👍
Definitely watch Donnie Darko, also Seth Rogan is in it.
We also need Tank Girl!!!!!!!!!
You guys need to watch Just go with it sometime soon
