as a kid i was raised catholic and my mum sent me to confession once a week, When i got to my tean age years my best friend and i started to sea which one of us could come up with the most outranges confession .
Fantastic! I grew up on Dave Allen, he was my mum's favourite comedian. I know it's a few weeks late but i really recommend the Christmas special stand up he did, i think it was on tv Christmas 1994. At the time our whole family had RSV (if you've never heard of that virus think yourself lucky, main symptoms are constant coughing to the point you feel your skull shaking and puking). Anyway as me and my parents watched it, one scene made my dad laugh so much it set him off coughing, then threw up, which just made me and my mum laugh more, lol.
I meant after one joke, not scene, it's stand up comedy lol. Btw it is still relevant as he's discussing Christmas in general and the stress of it, so it's probably a good time of year to watch it now.
According to Dave he had a very strict father who hated "rude words" , however he did have an uncle that was far more broad minded, who happened to be a farmer. As a child Dave was visiting his uncle one day and was interested in watching his uncle milk the cows. Suddenly one of the cows very loudly "Passed gas" as you might say and his uncle just laughed and said "Oh did you hear that? the cow just farted!" Anyway, some time later young Dave and his dad were taking their dog for a walk and the dog did exactly what the cow at the farm had done and Dave quite innocently said "Ooh daddy, doggie farted!" Well his father flew into a livid rage and exclaimed "Where did you hear that?" to which Dave replied "It came out of the dog's bum!"
Dave Allen was decades ahead of his time. Fellow comedians at the time were reeling off joke after joke, but Dave Allen would tell these stories much more in the style of today's comedians.
So glad you discovered Dave Allen. Some of the stories about his childhood and growing up sound horrific but the way he tells them make them sound pure comical.

I have fond memories of watching "Dave Allen at Large" when I was a kid. It was in syndication so I could watch it five days a week. He used to tell great Catholic jokes.
Glad you checked out Dave Allen, he done some great spooky stories with a twist at the end ,worth having a look at , you might also like Ronnie Corbett ( the two ronnies ) doing his armchair monologues/ stories.

I'm so glad you reacted to this.. Living in the states I've limited exposure to British comedians so this was my first time even hearing of him. This bit is absolutely brilliant!
I can relate to this scenario having gone to a private catholic school run by IRISH nuns, they were exactly the same as Dave portrays them. Never forgot the fire and brimstone look I got for daring to mention that my Aunt took me to the cinema to see the current movie blockbuster of the day, the rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar !!!

I was visiting BBC studios in Shepherds Bush in the 70's and he was doing a sketch with Edward Woodward in a quiet studio. I sat in the empty seats with a friend and watched for 30 min. I was in the bar later, and he came up bought me a drink, and asked what I thought of the show. A perfect gentleman. Very friendly, very funny. Diamond.
I grew up watching Dave Allen on Australian TV. I feel sorry for you that this appears to be the first time you have seen him. I am also happy for you because there are are literally hundreds of hours his material around. Enjoy one of the greatest story tellers ever.
He was particularly huge in Australia. I think that kind of humour, that always made fun of authority figures etc. really appealed to us Aussies. His sketches were great, but at the end of the show when he'd sit there in an impeccable three-piece suit with a cigarette, a glass of Irish whiskey and really take his time telling a story it was magic. No one would allow a comedian to take that much time on television today, but he was just so compelling to watch. And the punch-line was always worth the wait.
Dave Allen was the best at telling a story. He'd talk for twenty minutes telling little details all of which were hilarious then 'POW' hit you with the punchline and you couldn't stop laughing for the entire ad break. My dad and I used to watch all of his shows and the rest of family but my dad and I would try to remember the jokes and tell them later. Dad would tell then at work and me in the play ground because very few of my mates were allowed to watch Dave Allen. I stole all of his killer material and I'd do three to four minutes of the stuff on religion just before religious studes. Which always helped the sister/nun in her teaching of the lesson. Thanks for puttong rhis up. I love your natural laugh too. Its super cute and genuine.
As I was born into a non-religious family in the fifties, Dave Allen's take on Catholicism came as no shock to me. Curiously enough, my wife's mother had been a Catholic, and she had brought my wife up in 'the faith'. However, my wife's mother had later come to see that 'the faith' was nonsensical, and my wife eventually came to realise it, too.

In any case, the authenticity of the shroud is questionable. There is no supporting evidence for the alleged eighth century miracle of Lanciano, rendering it indistinguishable from fiction. There is also no evidence to support the assertion that the witnessed events of Fatima pertained to any specific belief system. The association is purely speculative. Irrespective of the claims made about his superhuman powers, and whilst I have no problems accepting the notion that the Jesus Chris character was loosely based upon a real person, the Jesus Christ character himself appears to have been illiterate. To put it bluntly, there are no written documents penned by Jesus Christ. Furthermore, it would appear that none of the subsequent written claims, pertaining to the words, or deeds, of Jesus Christ, were written at the time of the alleged events. Assertions pertaining to Jesus Christ were written in later decades of the first century.

Had to watch it twice, first for Dave Allen's brilliant story telling & second for your brilliant reaction to it ... thanks Amanda ☺
loved this man, there was no one else like him back in the day
Loved Dave Allen ,his jokes /sketches wouldn't be allowed nowdays
I’ll be watching more 😊
@Christopher Horner was always taking the piss out of religion back in the 70s..so I suggest you don't talk rubbish
@Christopher Horner You obviously had a sheltered upbringing, if you think you can get away with more now on tv than back in the 70s
So glad you found Dave Allen. I grew up watching him, and he really was one of the greats. So, so funny, then and now.
as a kid i was raised catholic and my mum sent me to confession once a week, When i got to my tean age years my best friend and i started to sea which one of us could come up with the most outranges confession .
One of the greatest comedians of all time.
👍🏻
Can you imagine the outrage and threats of violence if he joked about the "Religion of Peace"
He was brilliant, always watched his show.
Such a superb raconteur. His taking the mickey out of the Catholic church didn't go down too well with a few. He didn't care. A favourite.
Wish he'd av said arse 😄
Dave Allen was decades ahead of his time. Fellow comedians at the time were reeling off joke after joke, but Dave Allen would tell these stories much more in the style of today's comedians.
I loved his little sketches as well. He managed to take the mickey out of all the religious types without being cruel about it.
@@cyflym11 I remember one sketch in which confession boxes became dodgem cars.
@@geoffpoole483 Yes me too! ☺
So glad you discovered Dave Allen. Some of the stories about his childhood and growing up sound horrific but the way he tells them make them sound pure comical.
He was one of the finest comics ever. I grew up watching him.
🙌
This man has had a huge influence on me and my sense of humour. Keep watching his stuff it’s well worth it.
👍🏻👍🏻
Sadly they don’t make them like Dave nowadays.. RIP part of my childhood watching him and others!
Dave Allen Total legend and comic genius
👍🏻
What I loved about Dave Allen was at the end of every show he always said may your god go with you as everyone has their own beliefs
I used to watch him on "Dave Allen at Large" TV show when I was a kid. He used to sit in a chair, drink, smoke, and tell jokes.
👍🏻👍🏻
Brilliant. If you want to watch more Dave Allen I can highly recommend his sketch on telling the time. It's hilarious.
It’s on my list 😊
I watched Dave Allen with my mum and dad back in the late 70s and loved it. He was a really great comedian and so under rated. I’d recommend the story of him trying to explain to a child how to tell the time.
😊👍🏻
There is nobody today who can manage to take this point of view without alienating his audience. Dave was unique
You need to watch more Dave Allen, a legend even today.
Will do 😊
@@LADYRAEUK the hearse race is a real hoot for slap stick comedy
Hi Amanda I watched him live in London many moons ago. He was the best. Much missed.

Should check his sketch on teaching a child to tell the time. Genius
Dave was a huge part of my comedy education growing up. What a guy.
There will never be another Dave Allen i grew up watching his shows :)
That guy was an absolute legend! He was just so good at telling a story and making it funny!
👍🏻
We watched Dave Allen growing up, he was my Dad's favorite comedian, I have many happy memories of us kids watching it with Dad😊. You should watch the ones from the 70's when he was younger, I think they were funnier than his later work.🙂
😊👍🏻👍🏻
I have fond memories of watching "Dave Allen at Large" when I was a kid. It was in syndication so I could watch it five days a week. He used to tell great Catholic jokes.
fun fact: Dave Allen used to live in the same village as me, he used to go to the local pub, my dad remembers having a drink with him.
thats brillinat, i bet that was a laugh!
I would love to see your reaction to him teaching his son the time. Genius
It’s on my list 👍🏻
Loved watching his shows, a comedy genius. RIP
amanda it really is a joy to watch you never seen anybody cry so many tears of joy
I’m glad 😊
Dave Allen was years ahead of his time and everything he does is beyond and great.
Glasgow here, this man made me realise I was an atheist alter boy, kept giggling during Mass.Result defrocked and battered by mum.Happy days.
Glad you checked out Dave Allen, he done some great spooky stories with a twist at the end ,worth having a look at , you might also like Ronnie Corbett ( the two ronnies ) doing his armchair monologues/ stories.
👍🏻
I'm glad you liked it.
I can recommend watching Dave Allen talking about aeroplanes and flying.
👍🏻👍🏻
I remember Dave Allen from my childhood too. You should definitely check out learning to tell the time, it’s absolutely fantastic and I think it’s actually part of the same show as this clip was taken from.
👍🏻👍🏻
Dave Allen, Telling the time is well worth a watch
Teaching your children to tell the time. One of his funniest routines.
dave allen was magic wow it takes me back along time ago on a sunday night
Thank you Amanda for this video id forgotten how funny he was 😂😂
He’s great!
@@LADYRAEUK not only that a genuinely nice man...no airs and Grace's...no is e ever had a bad word to say about him...except the church..
Remember watching his shows way back... still bring a laugh all these years later.. an absolute legend.
He did a lot of sketches too. Try and find and watch the sketch of the five pound note stuck under the car wheel. Hilarious.
one of the all time funniest comedians miss him
I'm so glad you reacted to this.. Living in the states I've limited exposure to British comedians so this was my first time even hearing of him. This bit is absolutely brilliant!
Recommend the pub landlord......
I remember him when it was first broadcast. Getting on for half a century ago. His shows ranged from extremely good to brilliant.
@@eamonnclabby7067 I am definitely going to give it a watch ty
He was Irish, not British.
@@jillhobson6128my mistake, my apologies
Two of my favourite Dave Allen stories is the black cat that is not there and him teaching his kid to read time on a watch.
Or as Dave Allen described them as "The Gestapo in Drag"
I used to watch Dave Allen when I was young. He used to have a glass of whisky in one hand and a cigarette in the other! How times have changed.
I’ll be watching more 😊
Dave Allen - always be a legend in my eyes, I remember these from when they were first broadcast and can still watch him over and over. One comedy from back in the 70’s that you really need to watch is Love Thy Neighbour, it wouldn’t be allowed to be shown these days.. Love all your vid’s Amanda, keep them coming xx
Thank you 😊
His show was syndicated in the US, I watched it on WLKY-32 in Louisville, weeknights, after the news. Great stuff.
Telling the Time…. And the sketch….two funerals are brilliant and not to be missed. He was The Best story telling comedian.
I plan to 😊
He was particularly huge in Australia.
Except it isnt nonsensical.
@@macker33 Please provide the evidence.
@@clemstevenson Shroud of turin. Host at lanciano, 30000 witnesses at fatima, theres more.
@Christopher Horner If one religion is true then all the others cant be true, simple really.
@@macker33 No proof that the shroud belongs to any specific person. It is merely assumed, without evidence, that the shroud pertains to a specific individual.
Amanda i must recommend watching Dave Allen learning to tell the time, there will be tears of laughter
It’s on my list😊
Another comedian you may like. Victoria Wood. She does comedy songs such as "It would never have worked" and "Let's Do It" based on a British satire of relationships. I think you'll really laugh at them
Another comedy genius who passed before her time.
Evening, Amanda, glad you caught up with dave Allen. May I also suggest you watch the sketch of trying to teach children the time. A classic. I saw him live once and an unforgettable experience. Hope you're OK 👌
It’s on the list! I am thank you, hope you are too!

I loved watching Dave Allen at Large on BBC2 as kid, his funeral sketch was definitely memorable. The 70s had some great shows, Spike Milligan's Q series, Monty Python's Flying Circus just to name a few. I am so glad that you have got experience Dave Allen, the man was just to put it simply, brilliant.
i usually get recommended your new videos but i love when i type “american reacts to” and you show up its youtube saying i see your bored and i kept this video by for you💯
At my age 73, while I almost forgotten him. He was so witty! But seems no ones seems to realize here. He also had a message, how stupid people are!
Grew up with him on the ABC,Australia,ABC probably would not televise him now.
The Two Ronnie's are a comedy duo from the same era and the same brilliance.
