Watching your run in SGDQ2014 made me finally decide to try speedrunning, starting with this game. This is going to be a huge help! I just started posting in /r/speedrun yesterday looking for a few pointers for this game. I'm one of those people who try things myself, then go look up what I did wrong, now I have a good resource to use other than rewinding your SGQD run over...and over...and over again.

I did your strat for donjon 2 boss and it worked really well, i menaged to get the right timing to bomb the boss when he split so i get 2 hearts at this boss ^^ Dont really help for speedrun but its a cool bug, i dont know what happen if i get all hearts now, maybe you know? Still working on the rooster skip, hard one, but thanks too for your video about it and the buffered method, helps me a lot.

It would appear that the hookshot RNG boss determines its pattern upon walking into the room. You savestated after walking into the room and when you accidentally had to do it again, the boss took the exact same pattern. Now what to do with this information...
Right, so like I said XD Then again, in my savestates, it almost seems like a 50/50 chance to change the hole it comes out of next. Like, I'll savestate and he we pop out of one hole, then I load the state and he may or may not show up in the same spot.

Travis Land thats because the RNG was set upon walking into the room, and because he saved the state it was the same every time :p

it depends on your movement patterns, and other factors that influence RNG such as length of your pauses/equips, button presses, etc.
I never seem to be able to get the s+q menu, its a+b+start+select?
Yup! I have more success if I do A+B slightly before the Start+Select component

You just have to be skilled to get that gem skip--I've seen AGDQ players do 2x pretty much every time it's played
