It's nice to see the Tapper will live on in the historical records of RUclips. Thank you for sharing! Cheers!
I drove over the original Tappan Zee Bridge once when driving back to Long Island from upstate New York. As much as I hate driving over the Verrazzano Bridge, nothing terrified me as much as the original Tappan Zee. Back in 2019, I drove on the replacement cable stay bridge and it was like night and day.
Verrazano Bridge left my heart in my shoes
@@tracythomas6211 nothing quite strikes terror in your heart quite like the Maryland Chesapeake Bay Bridge
If anything i found, and still find, the Verrenzano as a marvel, and not scary in the slightest. When i was younger, i found the Delaware River Turnpike Toll Bridge soll sucking, even though its not that bad
The last time I crossed the Tappan Zee Bridge was in 1961 when my grandfather and I visited a friend in New Jersey.
It will always be the TAPPENZEE!
I crossed it in 2015, i regret i hadn't taken a picture of it, i hadn't even know its name at that time, and now thankfully to your footage i recognized it, thank you sir ! Cheers ! 🍻
I love all of the videos you downloaded.
William Ritter Same here! 👍
@@SteveCarras I think you mean uploaded gents.
@tpir1972 the bridge and the rest of the 287 corridor in NJ/NY is an alternate for traffic between the mid-Atlantic and New England trying to bypass NYC.
Too bad the bridge was demolished
Why did they tear it down instead of refurbishing it? Bring it back to life .
Wow, you drive great over these bridges. I wish I could do this as easily as you make it look!
I 1000% thought this was the Goethals looking at the thumbnail
I was born the day this Bridge opened,in March of 1960!
Michael Boyce Uh March 1960? It opened Dec.1955! (I was born in December of 1960 if that helps anything.)
Memories
@bronsonblack yea, we can only hope! i still doubt that the project will get underway that soon, even with government help though. according to a reliable personnal source, since the project is so massive and expensive, contractors are trying different ways to bid on different sections of the project (in other words, there probably won't be a single general contractor for the whole job as there usually is), which in itself will complicate and delay groundbreaking until a later date...

9 years later… i’m commuting over the new bridge… crazy how time flies by…
@brendanloughran449 you forgot Playland in Rye and Rye Beach
Could the Tappan Zee be an alternate to the GW Bridge?
Yes
I miss the original Tappan Zee Bridge. I remember crossing it with my dad when we went to Sleepy Hollow and with my mom & stepfather when went on our way to Maine.
#GoodOldDays #Nostalgia 😢😢
Change million to billion!
Ugh! I really did not like this bridge. Kind of scary... Having gone to college in Westchester County and sometimes driving up from Mercer County, NJ, I would take the Geo Wash Brg.
the story behind the tappan zee bridge was built outside of the 50 mile radius of the port authority so NY state not the port authority get the money and also the Governor at the time did not want the port authority hands on the revenue
25 mile radius.

I hate this rickety thing...It was never built properly from day one...Accidents galore on this old puppy!
It's a good thing they replaced this bridge. I wouldn't have driven across this even if someone paid me! It was an ugly looking bridge too.
Joel Hunt only unsettling maybe due to the step incline
Joel Hunt ......I agree Joel.....it definitely seems like a life altering event
I rode this bridge back in 2012 it was not as rough as the George Washington bridge
say goodbye to this bridge the Obama administration will propose emergency spending to build a new bridge starting in August 2012 the total is 5.2 million dollars to replace the bridge
