    De gea has more clean sheets than Van de sar with saboteurs like Phil jones and Harry Maguire for half his career, been dreadful this season and pants the last one but honestly it’s a miracle he lasted on his level as long as he did. Everything said and done he’s good enough to win CL with on his day. Most fans don’t know what’s it’s like to have an elite striker through on goal with a 1v1 and be surprised if you’re keeper doesn’t save it. That was David de gea for a good 6/7 years.

      so he wasn't at fault for city's second goal? or that shambolic showing against Sevilla where he gifted them 2 goals? I have loved De Gea, but it's been clear for years now that we can't play an expansive brand of football as long as he's in goal for us. The time was absolutely right to move him on, and Onana should make a monumental difference to our way of playing.

    Gab Marcotti's evaluation of DeGea is certainly damning and surprising for a man of Marcotti's reputation. After pointing out DDG's large contract, he then disparages the Golden Glove accomplishment with a " It's not a Thing" statement. He then asserts that DeGea's, as it relates to his shot stopping, " The only people who were worst than him were Southampton's two GK". And then he points to DDG's performance in the 2nd leg of the Europa League against Sevilla, which they lost 3-0 and his performance in the FA Cup Final. Lastly he says the DDG doesn't have the humility to accept the pay cut and continue as United's number 1 starter. Almost seems that Gab has an ax to grind against DDG. Yes, DDG was the highest paid GK in football. A condition that came about because he became United's Man of the Year 4 times and United were foolish enough to give him that amount. To Stevie's point, not DDG's fault, and DeGea would have been an Idiot NOT to sign that kind of a deal. Gab's point about it's DDG's fault for signing the contract and being that highly paid, is nonsensical. The Golden Glove, despite Gab's cynicism IS a thing. DDG isn't going to give it back, neither are Ederson or Alisson, the two who have won the same award the last 2-3 years and the Premier League isn't going to stop awarding it because according to Gab Marcotti....it's not a thing. That sounds like a point of a person who has an ax to grind against someone. To Marcotti's statement about DDG's shot stopping. According to FBREF stats, DDG had 99 saves against 142 shots on target, which was good for 71% save rate. The Premier League credits DDG with 101 saves. What Marcotti's fails to say is that according to FBREF Man City made the fewest saves in the Prem with 60, with the Premier League crediting Ederson with 46 of those 60. Additionally, Newcaste (Pope), Brighton (Steele) and Arsenal (Ramsdale) all had fewer saves than DDG accorindg to FBREF....and yes Southampton's GK were next to last in saves made. Here is an example of a person throwing out a stat and manipulating it to suit his point. Marcotti pointed to the Sevilla games and FA cup as indictments against DDG to help paint the picture that DDG was not over valued and imply he wasn't that good. Yet, according to articles in the Athletic and the Prem Leagues stats, DDG made 4 errors during the year that lead directly to goas. 2 in the prem and 2 in cup competitions. That's 4 errors that allow anti DDG folks to point out to as examples he was terrible. Lastly, Marcotti states DDG didn't have he humility to accept a pay cut and stay as number one. This is contrary to reports from journalist such as Fabrizio Romano, who clearly stated that United and DDG had agreed on a new contract at end of March, at a lower wage only for United to begin a search for another GK and then remove the original contract offer. There obvious is a sense that DDG was and is being demonized, which is sad, considering his service to Manchester United. Well, the only thing left is this. David DeGea left Manchester United as the Golden Glove winner, signifying the most clean sheets in the league and Manchester United won 1 trophy and finished 3rd in the League, with him playing every minute of every League game. That is the standard that Manchester United now have to match or exceed. Let's see what happens with the new team in 2023/24. Any less will be a failure.

    • @neilcoles1780
      @neilcoles1780 10 месяцев назад

      Good answer....Gab is a statto but rarely has the balanced view of a pro.

    • @Unshou
      @Unshou 10 месяцев назад

      The golden glove IS a useless award. You can have the most clean sheets (18 for example) but concede 5 goals in every other of the 18 remaining games. De Gea conceded 17 goals in 3 games! How many goals did he concede when trying to pass the ball out and he gave it away. In the FA cup final he kicked the ball long 26 times, and 21 of those times, City came away with the ball.
      If you're going to focus on a meaningful stat for keepers, fewest goals conceded would be a better one. But even then, nowadays, as long as your keeper is decent at stopping goals, the thing that really makes a difference is how they play with their feet and in helping to create opportunities by beating the press.

      @@inzykhan415 I like how open Serie A is because yes in a league season, you want entertainment but at the same time competition also the best team winning , and what we see in Serie A is great seeing AC Milan Napoli Inter Milan win 3 titles in 3 years new champions and I like that entertainment and competition rather than 38 games later the same team winning all the time. I wish the Bundesliga was like that but unfortunately Bayern Munich will continue winning titles and it's great to see Serie A be more competitive and it doesn't have to boast the best team in Europe, as long as the league has a high level of competition and continues changing champions, it'll be better for the viewers.

    There is a well reported budget of £115 million - reported by Kieran Maguire, J3wcobs, etc. Onana will be done at £45m and Mount was done at £55m (add ons of 5m including winning Prem and UCL which wont happen for a couple of years). so that is £15m left. The Glazers under FFP could add £90m out of their own pockets, but that hasn't EVER been done in 18 years, which shows why they are desp1sed. So this means the only way to get a Hojlund or Kolo Muani (at around £60-65m) - is to sell. Murtough thus far has proven he isn't very good at this, at all, and this is a skill in itself - buying is easier to do. My opinion is Paul Mitchell needs to come in ASAP. However, it's like bobbing for Apple's. Luckily we have 2 that will very likely be easy deals to do - Fred for 15m to Fulham and Henderson for 25m to Forest. The likes of Maguire, Bailly, Telles, Williams, Elanga, McTominay, Donny, Martial, etc - Murtough would very much struggle to do good sales business on. To surmise, we will likely JUST get Hojlund over the line because of those easier sales. Also, Glazer's need a JAYEFFKAY moment to align their boardroom decision.

    Andre Onana is a great goalkeeper and if he joins Manchester United, he'll remain a top class goalkeeper and how can he be the best goalkeeper in the world when as soon as he arrives at Manchester United, he won't be the best goalie in the premier league. Thibaut Courtois Ederson Alisson Mike Maignan Aaron Ramsdale Marc Andre Ter Stegen Emiliano Martinez David Raya Jan Oblak Gianluigi Donnarumma Nick Pope etc there are many top class goalkeepers in the world and I've mentioned lots of goalkeepers currently in the premier league, a league that Andre Onana will be playing in and maybe right now he goes into this Manchester United move as the best goalkeeper in the premier league on current form due to his stellar season with Inter Milan, but his presence in goal and ability to play out from the back, could help Manchester United out big time, he's really good, but they now have a goalkeeper suited to the modern game.

      @@SiiCKEM92 I remember when Arsenal signed Aaron Ramsdale and at the time his transfer was scrutinized, why because prior to his Arsenal transfer, the agenda fans had towards his move was he was part of 2 different teams that got relegated. Just because a player got relegated, that doesn't mean he is a bad player. Anyways, Aaron Ramsdale is a top goalkeeper he's been excellent for Arsenal in goal and also he'll most likely be England's number one goalkeeper in the next 12-18 months and in the future.
