I'm still trying to find a Jazzmaster that I like (the discontinued Classic Player left a very good impression), but recently I got a Kurt Cobain Jaguar and it's UNREAL. So I'll leave my vote for the Jag... for now!

Appreciate the comment mate! So far I’ve kept my humbucker sounds to my Les Paul and another guitar (yet to be filmed) I specifically wanted a single coil jag but the humbucker jag is a whole other world to explore!

The classic player is awesome! I owned one and stupidly traded it for a strat (which I like) I ended up paying money I didn't have to get another one. I'm looking into getting a Cobain Jaguar, or something similar. How does the Jag play when not playing Nirvana songs? How does it handle gain?

    • @CamiloSinger
      @CamiloSinger Год назад +2

@@reubenisaac702 the stock DiMarzio pickups are great! Plenty of output while still sounding clear and not muddy. I do a lot of gain stacking and I can't complain. It's also stupid fun to play thanks to the short scale. My only complaints are that it's a bit heavy and when compared to other guitars, and it sound lifeless and dull when strumming not plugged in. Maybe mine is just not setup correctly, but apparently it's related to the offset vibrato? (had the same issue with previous Jazzmasters)

Jags are my favorite, I play a JM and wonder why they aren't my favorite and then play the Jag and realize why, it's the strangle switch and the less dynamic range of tones. Both are just superb though. Killer guitars.
I would like to clarify on the scale length versus guitar size...
The Mustang and Jag are the same scale length and the Mustang is considered a child's guitar (partly because of the info out that it was a marketed to beginners and students at its launch and earlier days) but it is anything but. The body is smaller, that's what makes it's size smaller but it shares the same exact scale length as the Jaguar. The Jaguar body is much larger than the Mustang, almost the same shape as the JM body but definitely the same size. As a result, it's easy to tell that the scale length is different between the JM and the Jag; same body (basically) and same headstock shape.
Now let's take the Mustang and the Telecaster, for example, and more to my point. The Telecaster is the same scale length as the JM, 25.5. It's much shorter as a guitar, overall. In fact, the Telecaster is shorter than the Mustang, from the bottom of the body to the top of the headstock while simultaneously being 1.5" longer in scale length. The body is bigger than the Mustang, the scale length is longer but because of the headstock, which is the same as the Jag and the JM, the Mustang ends up being slightly longer, over-all, than a Telecaster! Pretty interesting.
I mention this because some people that have less experience or questions what's referred to as a short scale as not serious guitars. I've come across these people quite a bit on both Marketplace but mostly in the guitar groups on FB and other guitar forums. They just don't know and hear short scale and think small guitar, or kid guitar, it's just really not the case.
If we look at a Gibson, for example, those are 24.75", that 3/4 longer scale. That's 12/16th's of an inch that is spread over the entire length of the fretboard. It's not a huge difference. People really don't understand that.
I hope this might help anyone that is confused about length, scale length and how it reflects on a guitar overall.

Upon the finalized design and release of the Jaguar, some employees were probably working long hours at the factory, away from their families. Some wives must have spoke up and voiced their displeasure, hence the "strangle switch."

I like the jazzmaster bridge PU, and the Jaguar neck PU. So one alternative would be to have both in body.
But which body? Having played shorter scale Gibson scale lengths for years but never gotten used to it, I'd prefer the standard Fender scale, which would suggest the jazzmaster body but that volume knob is too close to the bridge pickup.
Perhaps the Jaguar body with a jazzmaster PU neck, if that'll intonate.
Wire that rhythm circuit to the bridge PU, which is where it's needed to cut the ear bleeding highs, especially on the Jaguar.
Allow for phase inverting, and series and parallel selection in the middle position, and a blend knob for max tone selection and you have a really versatile guitar.
To put icing on the cake, add in bass and treble cutoff pots, and you have my dream guitar.

Wow, that would certainly be a unique guitar with a lot of tonal options. I imagine many luthiers would love the challenge of putting that together, or obviously you could do it yourself. If it ever exists let me know 🙂 Thanks for watching and engaging!!

    • @boxerfencer

@@chrisprescottguitar I meant to say, jazzmaster bridge PU and Jaguar neck PU.
Yeah, I certainly plan on making that, perhaps from a kit or modding a Squire or one of the cheaper clones.
About the ease of a 3 way switch, I agree. I've thought about this and if the offset guitar had three PUs like a Strat, and you're only interested in the inbetween positions, as I am ... You could add in a 3 way switch where the middle position would select a a preconfigured voice via the slide switches. This could select from all 3 PUs or bridge and neck like on a Tele.
Luckily, there's an offset that already comes with 3 PUs. I think the easiest way to accomplish my ideals would be to mod that. Problem is, which may not be a problem, is that it's the bass VI.
There's even more details I planned out but I'll save you the trouble of having to read through my mad ideas. But yeah, I plan to flesh out my creations as soon as I get back home from overseas.

Do a neck shim on the Jazzmaster. It will raise the bridge and give you a better sounding and better performing instrument.
