In Korea, there is a debate about whether XG is K-pop or not. I hope foreign K-pop fans who are curious about this can understand. While the XG group members and company are Japanese, the majority of the staff who plan and create them are Koreans. From the very beginning of their group activities, they have been meticulously trained by Korean production teams to achieve a high level of excellence, similar to K-pop. Even now, the majority of XG's staff are Koreans. Therefore, XG's music, concept, composition, production, music videos, hair, makeup, styling, and more are all created by Koreans and reflect their technical expertise. However, XG debuts in Korea and enjoys all the benefits of appearing on Korean broadcasts and media as K-pop without mentioning the existence of the Korean production team that created them. This has led to criticism as they engage in misleading marketing, such as introducing themselves as XPOP, despite not having accomplished anything on their own. They shamelessly promote themselves as XPOP to the Korean public, claiming to be on par with Korea's 4th generation K-pop groups in interviews with foreign media and artists. They even introduce themselves differently to their Japanese fans, calling themselves JPOP and appealing to a sense of patriotism as a JPOP group that has entered the Korean K-pop market. It's truly absurd. How many people can truly understand XG's identity with their constant flip-flopping? Even the XG producers themselves seem unable to accurately define their own identity. It seems like a calculated move with a foul stench. As a result, the Korean public perceives XG as a highly unpleasant, unethical, disrespectful, and deceptive group that only wants to exploit K-pop for their own gain. However, it's not like Koreans want to recognize XG as a K-pop group either. K-pop doesn't tolerate such conscienceless groups that only seek their own interests. It's been said that XG is going on a world tour, but we'll see how long they can keep up their XPOP charade without realizing that it's all thanks to the Korean production team. We will closely observe their actions and how long they can continue with their self-serving tactics.
