Great project and video, this is just what I was looking for. Simple construction, yet a totally functional equivalent to the $300 models. One question, how did you order the rackmount rails? Everything else is simple to find, but I can't seem to find the rails. Like you, I don't want to spend an arm and a leg to build this. Can you help me out?
Sorry for the delay. I bought the rackmount server rails on ebay a while ago. I just looked and can't find them anywhere. I'll check my catalog tomorrow to see if they're still available anywhere. They're meant for HT equipment mounting between studs, but work great for standard server racks. I'll get back to you if I find them. I've seen other people use standard 1/2 inch angle iron, however it doesn't adhere to standard rackmount spacing specs.
Found some... search for EWI Rack rails Their site sells them in up to 19u www.audiopile.net/products/Cases/EWI_Case_Hardware/RACK_RAILS/EWI_Rack_Rail_cutsheet.shtml Ebay has them in 12u for pretty cheap.... you could just buy multiple 12u rails and stack them. www.ebay.com/itm/1-Pair-12-Space-12U-Full-Hole-Rack-Rails-for-EIA-19-Rack-Mount-Fast-Shipping-/370943032181
Thanks for the great video. I need a cheap rack mount too! The link above seems stale, I found www.audiopile.net/BB-HR-001 (at $5 a pair), and www.audiopile.net/HR-001 (at $20 a pair) (both are the longest available). BUT, based on the minimal pictures, hard to say for certain these will provide the same functionality. Any comments? How is your DIY rack holding up? Thanks again!
Sadly I don't think you can get the rails quite that cheap anymore. Best I could find was 8U rails for $10. You've got, what, 40U rails there for the same price? Fortunately 8U is adequate to my needs for now.
Thanks for sharing! This is a GREAT build, I'm looking forward to building one myself. Excellent job sir!
That's awesome. Been thinking about doing this.

How much weight would you say this could hold? I have 4 1u's that are half length and 2 1u's that are full length.
