andrelfity hi! You can change the setup as much as you’d like. I borrowed my setup from another hotlapper, and I’ve linked to his video in the description
I feel like hot lapping in a sim is mostly about knowing where and how you can abuse "track limits" and or find certain areas you can skip over curbing etc. All the alien drivers spend countless amount of time looking for that magical line.
When I ran the NFS Shift and Shift2 Hot Lap events, I used a spread sheet to track car setup changes. I would spend hours working on setups and track lines. It was a lot of fun. When my budget allows for a new wheel system, I'll jump back into online competition. Fair winds and following seas to all.
You can say that for pretty much every skill though 'being good at something is mostly about practicing and putting the time in" is essentially what you're saying. That's just how life is.
Very nice lap, Mike. I love the way that Content Manager keeps a record log of any of your best times, with all the car / track combo's you/we have ever raced or hotlapped in. So I just checked mine, and the best I ever did was a 2.19.263. But from memory, I think that is from entering all those fantastic GT3 Online Servers races @ SPA. I want to try to finish my TOP 10 car & track combo's video for AMS2 next, but if I get time over the Easter break, I'll give this a try as well. Happy Easter to you & your family Mike, and stay safe pleeease ; )))
One of my favorite combinations. So I had a ton of confidence going in, but fell well short of your time (so bad I’m not going to reveal my time). Humbled for sure. But I did take some of your advice at the end of the video, and I did shave 0.7 off my time. Really enjoy these Hot Lap challenges. Great job Mike!!!
(Note: This isn't a competing entry for Mike's Hot Lap, just a reflection on what I used to do.) 2:11.53 That was in a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 at Spa Gp during the Electronics Arts Need for Speed Shift Hot Lap Series, week 27. I was using a Microsoft Sidewinder FFB2 Joystick (my G-25 wheel broke) and G-25 pedals. I also ran the Shift2 Hot Lap Series with the same setup. All of my Hot Laps videos are on my RUclips site named "trilegdog". Best to all.
Thanks for the comment. I feel better now. Can’t wait til your next challenge. (Nice that you’re a fellow Canadian. I live an hour east of Canadian tire motor sports park, Mosport if your older like me. Maybe a challenge there. It’s possibly my favourite track to race on in AC. Highly underrated!)
I finally got around to trying this myself. Initially, I spun quite a few times, but I was able to do a 2:18.126 on my second clean lap with a potential 3 or 4 tenths lost, according to my delta. Looking forward to doing more of these challenges! :D
Well, that was humbling! Is there a way to post a time anonymously? Um...err.... Ahem... 2:32.7..... oh look, a bird! I had to do about a million laps even to get down that far, and I just read that the super-softs are only good for four laps. Heck, it takes me more than four laps to remember which way the circuit goes. Can you tell I have only been running in "pointless practice" mode until today?
2:30.04 I doubt I am going to do much better. Maybe 2 or 3 seconds at best. I'll watch your lap again and try to spot where I am losing so much time. I know I rarely even come close to the right line in Eau Rouge. Thanks for a fun challenge!
Did a 3 hour race with the RSR recently, the track was quite cold (12C ambient if I'm not mistaken, so about 17C track temperature) In qualifying the pole time I set was a 2:15.486, probably another half a second in it or so... Very fun combination to drive, though! I'm not sure I could beat that time if the weather got hotter, in that case soft tyres (instead of supersofts) might be required since the supers *really* like overheating :P In any case, the setup can be found here: acstuff.ru/s/0rZC EDIT: The layout for that session was modified to make track limits stricter, so all 4 tyres off the gray stuff meant the lap was immediately invalidated. The original Kunos layout is a lot more lenient on kerb usage, so there's probably some more time to gain there as well :)
Managed to get a 2:18:407 with a slightly modified stock setup, could do a little better but i'm very happy with that time. Might have a go with the suggested setup later anyways. Looking forward to the next challenge!
@@SimRacing604 yeah, 4:53 with some mistakes, setup was encouraging too much oversteer exiting corners. I'll come back to hopefully improve to 4:52 after some tweaks, but not in any time soon. I had to completely rework my setup after realizing that the traction control setting I had on the car initially was wrong. Turbo Jockel and Rayzie helped me figure that out. P14 on the RSR leaderboard, so I'll probably be trying for top 10 next time around. I'll be uploading the vid some time tomorrow. Even with gloves, got a pretty good thumb blister xD
Nothing against mainstream and thank you for the video. But part of me wishes you had doubled down on the weirdness and just went with some car and track no one has even remotely heard of XD I will try this for sure. If I mau give a more serious suggestion, you could take advantage and do a hotlap challenge of same car/track combo in different sims. That would be pretty interesting to see the results.
@@SimRacing604 Do whatever you feel like mate :) We are just consumers here ^^ It was just funny in my head. Going down a weirdness hole of sim racing like some Live for Speed or GP4 hotlap challenge or something... Well, a GTR2 hotlap challenge might be good though! Have you tried Shovas FFB changes to GTR2? They are amazing with the 10 year anniversary patch and 2005 content... AHHHH I am getting to a point where I actually have too many sims. 2:19.916, that's the best I could do before my patience ran out. This was 3rd lap of about 8 total, default setup on medium slicks, 5 liters of fuel and a bit lowered aero. Hotlapping for an unreachable target kind of puts on additional pressure and I make even more mistakes...
Nice!! A car I know and a track I love!! But I presume I wont be as fast as you guys... Also, wouldn't it be better if we all use baseline presets? So the competition between us all would be tighter...? Just my humble opinion! Keep it up with this videos!! Thanks a lot!!

Achieved a 2:16.182 losing 1 tenth in the last turn but I'm not even close to Florient's time, he might be using a cold track so the SS don't heat up. I couldn't drive them and found in ideal conditions S are faster. Anyway, I'm happy with the time I achieved only driving for one hour. Hope the next challenge is in ACC!
Might try this one later... although I know I'll struggle because I'm so used to ACC grip and car feeling, that AC right now, with the gt cars, just feels weird
Well... 2:22:97 with default set up, 26C track temp, soft tyre compound and a Logitech Momo FFB wheel from a century ago... not that bad and a TON of fun. I'll keep trying to beat (my own of course lol).

Yeah, it does, but so do many cars. My hunch is that it comes down to the tyre model AC uses, which is fully single-point-of-contact per tyre. Admittedly that only mitigates the issue... but yeah, it is a way around. I have found setup means a lot though, with a few tweaks here and there it can be made to handle terrifically - even if those tweaks can be quite counterintuitive sometimes
you need to setup the dampers in the rsr in AC to get a good balance or else it can be understeery. i set them up according to my driving style, high bump and rebound, and low on the other two, slight negative toe on the fronts, slight positive at the rear, moderately high camber, not highest, moderate aero, and slightly softer wheelrate than stock because i like to ride kerbs, front anti roll set to around halfway, softer rear anti roll, set to around a quarter of the way to the right. tyres is your choice, just remember to adjust pressure so you dont overheat them
