- Roller skate review on the skates I own: Moxi Lolly's, Moonlight Rollers, BTFL & Chicago skates... comparing boots & wheels and everything else that come stock on these skates... SEE MORE
Hi Lovecats! Thanks for watching!
When I was looking for new skates to buy, I knew what I wanted but still had TONS of questions about how the boots fit and what would be best for my feet (and ankle) for the kind of skating I want to do (pretty basic/mellow and dance/rhythm skating) and what wheels would be best, etc. and I found a lot of great reviews, which were pretty helpful but ultimately, I ended up buying all of the skates I was curious about because I needed to see and feel for myself. And I'm glad I did because now I can share with you!
In this video, my goal was to really give you a complete look at each skate and brand, just out of the box with all of their stock parts and really compare them with each other, as well as explain what I love about each and which skates are best for what type of skating I like to do... to ultimately help you make a decision on which skates to buy.
This is helpful to beginner skaters as well.
Please note, these are all my opinions and I am not an expert, nor am I sponsored by any of these brands and hopefully I didn't leave anything out, but if I did make any mistakes, please let me know :)
Apologies for random changes in volume and background noise/cars, etc.

Forgot to mention that when the Chicago's are new, the back of the boot rubs a bit on the back of your leg/calf and causes a little pain, but only for a few days. All of the other boots have a padded backing which solves this problem, but generally all skates take a little time to break in.

I bought the btfl for my first pair and i love them!
A DIY loop on the tongue is a great idea for the lollies
Not only do I agree, but I would pay to see how that’s done 😂
I have moonlight skates and I’m absolutely in love with them, I hated the wheels but after upgrading the wheels I can’t take these skates off! I recommend either sugar rush wheels or radar energy wheels
What color Moonlights did you get? I’m waiting for my cosmic quartz from eBay, really excited.
@@KitKatToeBeans do you like them after some months ? I want to upgrade from my impala skates to something nice :)
On the website they don’t have those wheels available may u send me the link if u find those wheels?
Good to know. I have a bad foot injury so its nice to see someone mentions comfort and heel stability
Don't know why there aren't more likes, this video was succinct and helpful. Thanks
Thank you Maegan. This was a very helpful review. I just bought my first skates. Sure-grip Boardwalk. So far I am loving this skate. It's very well made. The boot is glued and stitched to the foot plate. The foot plat is a nylon rock plate so it's light but durable. The wheels are a juicey gummy 65 mm , 78A. ( in cherry red!) I ordered toe caps so I don't tear up the toe of the skate. The Moxi Lolly is so pretty. I have my eye on the Barbie limited edition in strawberry. I think the Moonlight skate is also very beautiful and I've heard other good reviews on that skate. I'm a noob but having a lot of fun learning!
Hi I'd love for you to do an update, about what you changed on the skates, and wich you recommend afterwards! :)
Candi Girls are also good beginner skates for $100 and they restock frequently on Amazon and Urban Outfitters. I also have Moxi Lollys and they are a level up for sure- but much higher price point.
Thank you for this. I am having a hard time finding a skate. I think by you having a comparison of four different skates, this may help in my decision.
Thanks for the great review Maegan. Skate! Dance! Enjoy! BTW, the bearings on the BTFL skates have been hugely improved.
I'm glad you mentioned your ankle. I also have a concern being I've broken both my ankles and a foot. So I have been concerned about comfort. Thank you
Good to know which ones are wide. I went thru two pairs (Candi Girls, which are pretty much a TORTURE DEVICE FOR WIDER FEET and Moxi Panthers, which hurt on onlymy right baby toe, but its pretty unbearable in that spot) before finding some that didn't hurt my toes on the sides. Chaya was the answer, and I bought 2 pairs of them. They're heavenly, like tennishoes, perfectionout of the box. I have a pair of Red Jackson Vipers on the way too just because I want some red skates and they're supposed to be wide and comfortable too. I kind of still want a pair of black skates though, and the Panthers are better since I stretched them, they're real suede, but the pain still shows up in ONE LITTLE SPOT after a couple hours. Maybe moonlight rollers could have my next (black) pair...I wish I could get the Chaya dance skates because they're solid black but come in men's sizes and the smallest I've found is a 40, which is a 8.5 in women's, and I need a 7, 7.5 max. I can't understand why in the world they wouldnt make their plain black pair available for everybody... Chayas are so cushy and amazing, you really might want to try a pair, youll fall in love with how they feel, plus they come with nylon plates so theyre not too heavy and they come with 78A octo paseo wheels that have really rounded edges. (I changed both mine to pulse wheels and the chaya big softies but those others are really nice too, just preference...But thanks for the info I really appreciate your review...
might be a little late, but bearing spacers are the solution to your wiggly wheel problem. Bearing spacers allow you to fully tighten the axel nuts, locking a perfectly free-spinning wheel into place.
350.00 the tongue should not be floppy and every one keeps complaining about it
I love my moonlight rose quartz, however, I wear a womens 9 1/2, I bought an 8 they are very wide, they fit like a 9 1/2 wide. So sizing down would make the boot too short and my toes crunched. I own the Lollies and although very narrow, they really do conform to your foot after a few rides. When I was a beginner, I had difficulty with balance and such in these skates until I bought the Beach Bunnies. OMG, the difference was incredible. Soo supportive, they need a little break in time, but once you break them in they make all the difference in the world. If you have a very wide foot, the moxie panthers are a great beginner skate but the boot is slightly heavier. I’m also going to recommend the Chaya premium for a new skater. Supportive. Lightweight and awesome. I still go back to my beach bunnies to master a new move, than return to my Lollies or moonlights! And I have only changed the wheels on the moonlights. I hated them. I also own Bont Prostar, but that’s a whole different species. Lol
I have recently gotten the BTFL skates. The trucks came crooked but that was a SUPER easy fix. I just loosened them, turned them straight, and then tightened them. Other than that everything has been awesome with them. I think the bearings have been improved from when you purchased them because mine roller perfectly once I adjust the wheels! I love that they aren’t too stiff and they ride GREAT OUTDOORS! Bumps and all! The price in US is now $159 plus tax so mine came out to be $171.17. I’m about to be putting rollerbone wheels and bearings on them so we’ll see how they ride indoors lol.
very informative and helpful. I came for the shoes review and learned about wheels tooo! Can’t wait to get my pair of Chicago skate and wheels.
Chicago are great beginner/intermediate skates. I grew up on them. And I just bought two new pair - one for outdoor and one for indoor (but mainly because I wanted a pair of black and a pair of white - and did not want leather skates). If you're going to skate outside, swap out the Chicago wheels for some wheels with 78a hardness and go for it! Well worth the price tag.
What size wheels for outdoor 58 or 62 for the Chicago skates
I have been trying to order skates since the beginning of the pandemic and they are always sold out.
@Anita k. thanks they do have some but not in my size 😢😢😢
Call skate shops all over the country. I live in New England & I found lollys in stock at a shop in Miami Florida and they sent them to me!
Do you mind sharing the name of the shop in Miami?
@@anodetolocs8028 fritz Skate shop on Lincoln street xx
@@Alyskaaaaa Thank you!
Omg ! Yes to the Lolly being narrow. Fit perfect on my left but my right is in pain. I definitely need more padding because when I put on Antik skates they are so comfortable. So I’m definitely going to try the moonlight rollers. I already know I’m definitely going to change the plates and wheels just want the boot lol
My moxi Panthers hurt on my right foot but not my left foot too... thats interesting to hear you have the same issue... hmm...
We’re the same foot size! Bunions and everything - i was told a 7 MLR could fit me but I didnt believe them cause of my wide feet! hopefully gonna snag an 8 during the next restock. I was also worried about the lolly width; i love how thin the upper part compared to moonlights
On the BTFLs, if outdoor wheels don't have a hard plastic at the core they will bind and not roll well regardless of the bearings.
The btfl wheels have a hard core. They actually roll very well. I skatevon my Scarlett pros daily. I don't know why she would have that issue. I will say that I did upgrade my wheels and bearings shortly after I got them because I like light up wheels. Lol
My old Chicago’s are absolute trash but hey, they were really great to learn on and beat up. If I go to rough areas like textured parking garages or rough roads I’ll still wear them because I’m alright with them being shredded. 👍👍 good first skates
The one thing I wondered about is why the jack boot has the lace lock on the tongue but the Lollies do not. I don't get it! Great video!!!!
Thanks for the review. I’ve made my decision. Moonlight!!!!
I want to get back into skating and I’m so glad I found your video. I want a skate with good support but not too stiff. How much does each pair weigh? Are the Chicagos the heaviest? I’m so excited to skate again. I was really good at it and hope I still am. Can’t wait!
i bought some impala skates today, i have heard that the boot comes apart from the sued, there is a 30 day return policy so if that does happen i will return them and invest in the moonlight skates!
Skates are sold out EVERY WHERE I don’t know where to buy any right now!
They're so hard to get!! Fritzy's restocks Moxi's and so many others pretty regularly fritzysrollerskateshop.com/collections/moxi and moonlight roller has the emerald color available I think www.moonlightroller.com and amazon has a few okay options. Good Luck!!
Aside from Fritzys, Try Sin City skates , rollerskate nation , pigeons rollerskate shop, Medusa skate shop... wicked skate shop ? Those are a few and you can follow them on IG to see when new stuff drops!
But Fritzys restocks pretty often and they always have it in store as opposed to preordering and waiting on anything... They also ship super fast !!
@@Smallbootyhoe3869 they literally ship in like 2 days or less! They're amazing!
I kinda like the BTFL, I'm planning on buying them
Same, I just can’t figure out which size to get
@@skythehippie4772 same, I didn't order yet because still don't know my size 😢
Great video!!! I have the same sofa lol.
Thanks!! ...and sofa twins, lol ;)
hi there! thank you so much for the review. it sounds like you're a similar size as i am and i think you forgot to say- what size in the BTFLs did you purchase?
Are you a Charlie's Angel :) I love your jean jacket
I can't find moxys anywhere does anyone know of any sites that aren't sold out? Thanks for the review
Hopefully you have found something but in case not I would sign up for email notifications from Fritzy's Skate Shop or the Moxi website. Moxi especially will release skates over night so if you catch the notification early you can get them before they sell out. Also follow Fritzy's on Instagram and they will have product updates live and will let you know when they will drop Lolly's on the website. That with the email notification will help.
I wondered about the wobbling myself and think the the space between the bearings is two wide and maybe the don’t have a space I have to take them out and look. But I love how lite they are they are as lite as my edeas, and I like that they aren’t hard casted so I have more ability to get low. But not one to jump in lol will break ankles for sure
Could you please do a review on foxy skates? I’m trying to decide between foxy skates and moxi skates on Amazon
Can you review the chaya skates?? Thank you! Great review!!
awesome
Particularly the BTFL and MLR. Same factory on those
How were the moonlights after you changed out the wheels?
More skate videos pleaseeeee
Hi Maegan would you say Moonlight rollers can be used indoors as well?... I loved your video :)
The Chicagos - I was wondering how much they weigh? VS the other options? Thanks
Great review!
Hard to watch your video with transitions causing echo from one clip to another and not leveled volume. But got through this and I think I will go with Moxi Lolly for my daughter.
Quite a few of these skates on the current market are the same exact product with different branding.
Will you update on the moonlight?
Love the vid! the Fritzy's disc code doesn't seem to be working :( Can you help? :)
Oh NO! Sorry for my delayed response! I'll try to fix the link now. Thanks!
Okay... I fixed the link in the description and here it is as well... let me know if it doesn't work i.refs.cc/Fq9a9luE?smile_ref=eyJzbWlsZV9zb3VyY2UiOiJzbWlsZV91aSIsInNtaWxlX21lZGl1bSI6IiIsInNtaWxlX2NhbXBhaWduIjoicmVmZXJyYWxfcHJvZ3JhbSIsInNtaWxlX2N1c3RvbWVyX2lkIjo3NDgwNzgxODl9
What outdoor wheels do you recommend?
Radar energy wheels and Bont 78a outdoor wheels for outdoor... I also love the BONT glow wheels, they're hybrid, 83a I think.
Don't really like your editing.
I got btfl one but a different model and it's amazing
What size did you get? Is it the same as your shoe size?
@@skythehippie4772 eur:40 us:9
But no definitely not my shoe size
Get it bigger then ur normal shoe size like if u wear 37 get 40 or 39 so it can last long and feel comfortable
I wanted the others but could only get btfl and now I'm worried as a new skater :/
I skate BTFL and I love love love them. I have had several other brands and I find the BTFL to be my absolute favorite. The boot is soft and allows you complete control of your foot you don't feel trapped in a hard shell boot. They are as supportive as a good Hightop sneaker. The beveled wheels are fantastic for dance and artistic skating because you have access to the edges so smoothly. I personally always personalize my skates with new laces and toe caps so the placement of the bottom eyelet works perfectly for toecaps and wider leaves. I also know that the newest line has new colors and upgraded bareing. I like to use my 78a light up wheels most of the time.. lol but Btfl has the most comfortable and controllable boot.
I'm what I guess you would call an intermediate level skater.
