@@raysalmon6566 "Places known only from scripture". I don't believe that's true. Ancient Greek historian Herodotus knew about Babylon and historians since, have believed it exists. What 19th century archaeologists did was find the actual location. You can write a work of fiction and mention real places. It's still fiction. Nineveh is another case: Modern Nineveh still exists, and the ancient city ruins are located right across the river Tigris. So it makes no sense to say we only know of it from scripture. @13:00 I have actually heard Christians defending that argument of genocide mentioned in the Bible. In this debate ( ruclips.net/video/bIuDfh-6iUs/видео.html ) the Christian would not even answer the question "is genocide good" after agreeing that God commanded genocide in the Bible and eventually agreed that genocide could be good in some circumstances. When asked to describe something that was objectively bad (if genocide could be considered good), he answered "idolatry." That was shocking. This is why the world needs people like this who are willing to challenge and criticize the Bible.

I love reading Gonick’s cartoon histories. Funny and accurate! The most entertaining way to learn history, next to “Oversimplified”. Have you read the cartoon history of the US?
Well the word Jew itself is clearly derived from YHWH. In modern Hebrew it's pronounced "Yehudi" but in Arabic it's "Yahudi" pronounced "Yahoodee". So "Yahoowah" could indeed be a valid pronunciation...
Between them Dr Josh and Aron showed just how much cognitive dissonance god believers and apologists suffer with, it's really sad people will try to justify the evil things their none existent god supposedly has done.
The Spanish Dominican friar Raymundus Martin 1270 did insert vowels into YHWH. As Dr. Josh stated, the frair used the vowels of ‘Adonai.’ This resulted in the sound ‘Yahowah,’ which has a Latinized spelling of ‘Jehovah.’

@Tyler B #2 um... I think you have it the other way round fella, theists appeal to incredulity.
@Tyler B #2 a cardboard box doesn't reproduce via biological means m8. Category error. Try again.
@Tyler B #2 Your "argument" above can be summarized as "designed things require designers." That's not an argument; that's just a redundancy.
@Tyler B #2 also, if you think designing a cardboard box requires intelligence, I think we might have different standards of intelligence.
@@FakingANerve designing cardboard boxes is actually very technical and an important part of shipping and distribution. Do you use plain card or waffle core, what handling will be needed to plan for, can it be recycled, reused, glued or taped. It's not that straightforward. However it's still not biology so it's a category error comparing a cardboard box with an animal like a human.
Great video! Thank you both for your work!
Dr Josh is just brilliant! Great discussion.
The correct response to the question “do you know the context” is “why don’t you tell me the context that makes Genocide is ok.”
I love this kind of content.
Please one of you record an audiobook, id love to listen to you for hours!
What a great interview and discussion! Thanks!
These 2 are great together
The story of Lilith and the serpent goes even further, and carries over into an unrecognized aspect of western society today. I definitely think that image of Saint George slaying the dragon is symbolic of patriarchy subjugating Lilith - or the educated woman.
49:40 I was really looking forward to seeing that backpack
Great discussion!
Must add those books to my list!
Thank You Aron and Joshua. I will Definitely be reading this book. Fascinating material, especially to people like me who have actually read the Bible line by line. I also read the book 'The Bible Unearthed' by two professors of archeology, one at Tel Aviv Univerisity in ISRAEL. They admit that the entire Exodus story with Moses is complete fabrication, never happened. When professors in Israel admit this story is pure fabrication, this has meaning! Ok, this is such awesome material that I had to type this in before actually watching this excellent video!
Loved this interview and discussion!
Interesting talk Aron and Josh, especially imo about the human sacrifice of the early Hebrews. My thanks to both of you.
I always found the rule "Do not offer your children to Moloch" so oddly specific. Like is it allowed to offer a sheep to Moloch or a child to Ba'al?
Don’t give your kids to Moloch. He prefers a gift card so he can pick them out for himself
Your overlooked reply is extremely funny.
Funny how the apologists final argument is "because the bible's says so". Yet they don't know what the bible says. They think believing in it and knowing its contents are the same thing.
The Western world has known about Nineveh from non biblical sources since the middle ages at the latest. I don't know what WFA is, but I'm quite skeptical of their assertions.
Geez, all I said was "This piece of fish is good enough for Jehovah."
"Stop it! Nobody throw anything until i blow my whistle! Not even I he says Yehova."
I think it was Halibut.
@@Virtualblueart You forgot to say "...and I want to make this perfectly clear..."
Crowd: He said it! He said it again!
Official: You're only making this worse for yourself you know.
Mathias: Worse? How could it possibly be worse? [dancing and kicking up sand] JEHOVAH! JEHOVAH! JEHOVAH!
@@skepticusmaximus184 Yep, you're right! It's been a long time since I've seen the film.
Great job gentlemen. Clear and Precise.
I can’t wait for this book to come out.
Watching frm South Africa, awesome show Aron and Dr Josh.
Yeah...I want this book!
Marvelous discussion, I love Dr. Josh, and can't wait for the book.
The Friendly Atheist has been reading from Genesis. Most of it I'd never heard before... you don't suppose the teachers at the Christian School... skipped a lot of the verses... or ignored the inconvenient ones? Like Lot's daughters... Pharaoh with an army of chariots pulled by horses when all the livestock in Egypt had died ...
Nah... couldn't be that... could it?
I asked the headmaster of my high school (who was also the youth pastor) where Cain’s wife came from. Not as a gotcha question; i had noticed it myself and wanted to know. I was told that despite apparent contradictions like that, the Bible is definitely literally true and to have more faith.
Totally enjoyed, and learned a LOT! Per usual! BRAVO!
We are not many years away from creationists being certified as insane.
How lovely is that .
Great discussion. Dr Josh is GREAT
I enjoy this format of two intellectuals discussing these issues.
The response videos are a bit annoying because of all the bs issuing from whomever Aron Ra happens to be responding to.
What an erudite guy, I feel 'magically enhanced'.
Lillith sounds a much better partner than Eve. Does anyone know if she's still single?
I have definitely seen her on Bumble. She never responded to me, though.
I'll stay away from that one, she refused to bend over for Adam and also later became a flying demon.
@@honorquest Adam asked her wrong.
The last time I saw her was in a movie called "Bordello of Blood". Pretty sure she is single and playing the field...
@@TheJMPD Well if you see her again, let her know I'd be interested in a casual coffee and a chat. Find out if there was any spark. Thanks.
Oh Digital Hammurabi and Aronra so cool.
I do hope this book will be available on Audible.
It is not as of yet.
i am only nine minutes in and I'm hooked. . .
THANK YOU FOR THE UPLOAD. . great content, AronRa
peace, Eturn
Digital Hammurabi. I like that, really!
Thanks again for your interview
Love Dr. Josh and Aaron! You bring intelligence and true research to all these topics that are highly disputed. Thank you both and keep going. There are alot of incorrect theists out there!
Great conversation.
Definitely need to read this.
thanks, look forward to reading this book.
The only time pets/family interrupting is a problem is when it shows that you are dressed up up top but wearing PJ shorts and fluffy slippers down bottom.
@Tyler B #2 um... A nice strawman or should I say sandman, and b theists think a God created a mud golem and made it a human. Sorry m8. Poor job.
@Tyler B #2 ohhh myyy... I'm not so sure that you understand what the word "atheist" means, bud. 😬
@Tyler B #2 you should dial back that drug abuse dude...
@Alan Hilder Warm, cozy slippers with bunnies on them. I am so there
I'm unsure why this is a problem.
This was a great interview
~48 - 50+ Interesting discussion on the Yahweh, Jehovah thing. I first heard this in my Old Testament class in college in 1963. A Christian education put me on the road to atheism.
Wow this is such gold! Thank you for these discussions 😊
What do you mean, Moses didn't write the Pentateuch? It includes his own death and even an account of his burial site. Who would know more about it than Moses himself? Gawd.
GREAT colab!
Am a modicum disappointed that I can not purchase Dr. Bowen's most recent production yet, so am instead purchasing Sumerian for beginners to share with my favorite family members. I found the link in the description. Btw, I have read my copy of Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism two and a half times now. The 1/2 is the parts I shared with others...who are now much more knowledgeable.
*For some BS reason my phone is preventing me from continuing past the add to cart phase for my book purchase. Since I currently have no other option of my own, I will sponge a relative's computer tomorry. I really want this book. This is a bit of a hassle. Has this occurred to others? Perhaps less motivated individuals might be dissuaded and give up trying to purchase your book and thus reduce the apt rewards you have earned for your most impressive intellectual accomplishments. Daft, though I may be, I am really looking forward to your books.
**Also, Aron, l want a signed copy of your book. I've been a fan for like half a decade and was a patron of yours for a couple years before I F'd up. I'm back on track now though. Can I buy an autographed from you? LMK. Thanks much!
Oh wow. When Dr. Josh says "watching your debates…particularly with Kent Hovind", the pained look in Aaron's face just says it all. ;)
Hey Aron. I wonder if you are planning more episodes of Systematic Classification of Life. I really miss this kind of content.
Another fabulous video! Thank you.
I was waiting on the Joshs kid or Aron’s dog to make an appearance lol
Dr. Josh is so very entertaining.
Real disappointment is Dr. Josh did not participate in the legendary battle of the century, the Josh Fight.
I’m so sad I missed it. Didn’t hear about it in time. 😭
The Drs are awesome, funny that he keeps popping up as a suggested friend on FB too ;)
Is it just me or does Utube go out of their way to plague Atheist Channels with Christian commercial s? Love your channel anyway ;)
I have YT Premium. NO commercials ever.
...welcome to how marketing/advertisement works...
I click on them, if they're going to annoy me, I might as well charge them a click fee.
Oh man I read this guy's book a long time ago! He said the same thing in his book "kicking and screaming from believing in god". Great book!
Wow. I did not know about the child sacrifice. I was somewhat aware of incest but definitely not aware of pedophilia! The failed prophecy in Ezekiel, that they're talking about, that's mind-blowing to me.
As soon as I finish Life Driven Purpose: How an Atheist Finds meaning by Dan Barker I will definitely read Dr. Josh’s books next
I've seen Digital Hammurabi in passing but this has piqued my curiosity. Him and his wife have gained a new fan and this is a book I intend to read since I will have more time by giving up Facebook anyway, lol. The final straw by the way was being suspended for saying "Women were treated as property in all of the Abrahamic texts." Evidently, that is hate speech AND it was said on an atheist site. But I digress. Once again a damn good video, Aron. You were one of the first I came across as I came out of religion for the umpteenth time because I hadn't yet really considered the flaw in Pascal's wager. Thank you for all that you and Digital Hammurabi do. People like me need to hear the voice of reason regularly.
“In Larry Gonick's The Cartoon History of the Universe, the narrator suggests that YHWH might instead be pronounced "Yahoo Wahoo." The narrator is then shown being struck by lightning.”
Mario is showing us the true way!
I love that giraffe behind Dr. Josh! ...or camel.
Kicking and screaming,
I destroyed the indoctrination with all my passion.
What a great talk!
Y’all should do a whole season of videos
Have you checked out Dr. Josh's channel yet?
Amazing. Didn’t think I’d watch the whole thing but it flew by. 😂
Between them Dr Josh and Aron showed just how much cognitive dissonance god believers and apologists suffer with, it's really sad people will try to justify the evil things their none existent god supposedly has done.
Great stuff man! Big fan.
I've been an atheist for all of my adult life, but didn't read the Bible until 6 years ago. That put the final nails in the Judeo-Christian coffin. With my continuing study of the Bible, including numerous subjects related to it (history/other myths of the area, etc.), we can truly say we know the Bible better than most believers.
3:58 Even an atheist that never was into the bible is likely to know it better than most Christians.
You make no sense.
@@mr.hansholmes2367 Christians are pretty notorious for ignorance as to what their own book of fairy tales says. Oftentimes going to the extent of ignoring what is actually written in favour of a preferred belief about it that is not supported by the text, or outright contradicted by the text.
@@SakuraNyan You said MOST christians. I disagree. Some, sure ok. Not Most.
@@mr.hansholmes2367 What percentage of Christians believe that the world is flat? Because, guess what -- the bible directly postulates a flat Earth.
What percentage of Christians are still geocentrists? Because one of the stories in the Bible *requires* a geocentric Earth due to inertia and physics.
What percentage of Christians are okay with polygamy? (Polygamy is supported by the Bible)
Great video, fantastic conversation, thank you!
I'm going to investigate whether there is an audio book version so I can listen while I work...
