He didn't put a charging circuit, it was a buck converter, the leads on the charger go straight to battery and will burn the battery if you charge straight on a usb
Cool project, but you should REALLY be making some disclaimers at the beginning of any video that involves taking apart batteries since some of the chemicals/ metals inside can be quite dangerous if mishandled, with some types of batteries more likely to cause harm than others. People shocking themselves is the least of the concerns, with chemical burns being just as likely. I do enjoy some of the ideas you come up with for your DIY projects, as they can be quite creative, just wish the safety portion was more present and obvious to the viewer. Then again, most people who will actually attempt to recreate this will hopefully have some level of knowledge ahead of time and take the necessary safety precautions.

I was referring to all batteries in general (I never mentioned a specific type and also said some were more dangerous than others for a reason.), and while I did mention shocks, my main focus was on the other dangers of opening batteries and handeling the internals improperly regardless of what the specifications of any specific battery type are.

Following this video how to build it is not quite possible to follow and to build one because there are missing parts or section of the making especially choosing the value of resistor and transistor for the constant current source or the design part of the constant current, the reverse engineering schematic of the 3.7V to 5V circuit or module. This video is great for watching the final usable product especially on its unique footprint constraint using Duracell AA battery casing. It’s perfectly safe, as long as you don’t use a lithium battery, otherwise no risks.
