My great-grandfather, from Marshall County, Iowa, fought with the 6th Iowa Cavalry, Company A. Born in Iowa before it was a state in 1846, he would have been 17 at the time of the Whitestone Hill Battle. In 1864, he was with them at the Battle of Killdeer Mountain in North Dakota. One correction on the map, the soldiers went back to Fort Sully, not Ft. Pierre.
My great-great grandfather was also one of Sully`s men. He witnessed this battle and all the way to the Killdeer battle. He was born in Iowa in 1842. I don`t remember where. Most likely these two men knew each other. We did not know anything of him until my grandma passed away. Locked away in a trunk was his military discharge papers and letters that he had written to home.
The Dakota literally tey to paint themselves as victims but totally brush off the murdered innocent white settlers who were the true victims. The U.S delivered the just punishment for the actions if the Dakota.
If you’re working on the Civil War, let me assist you. My specialty is the siege of Petersburg in the Appomattox campaign. I’m an award-winning Civil War author, living in Washington DC.
I hope to visit Birch Coolie, my family fought in that battle before being shipped south for the southern rebellion. Thank you for this interesting piece.
Very fantastic series and you narration is also be coming better sir. It is extraordinary. I am not sure that it for you but can you make any video on William III of orange
I’m from Jamestown, I’ve never heard of this until I saw your video. Was looking for info on the military of Louis XIV, found something much more local.
Interesting, I did not now much at all about this conflict. Quite awful that the civilians were killed in the battle, although such things tend to occur. Great video nonetheless! Nice to see videos on several separate topics, I am impressed as usual. 👍🏻
"I hope you will not believe all that is said of 'Sully’s Successful Expedition' against the Sioux. I don’t think he ought to brag of it at all, because it was, what no decent man would have done, he pitched into their camp and just slaughtered them, worse a great deal than what the Indians did in 1862, he killed very few men and took no hostile ones prisoners. . .and now he returns saying that we need fear no more, for he has ‘wiped out all hostile Indians from Dakota.’ If he had killed men instead of women & children, then it would have been a success, and the worse of it, they had no hostile intention whatever, the Nebraska 2nd pitched into them without orders, while the Iowa 6th were shaking hands with them on one side, they even shot their own men." @FieldMarshalYT You need to change your mapping details or risk the loss of any relevancy. Fargo is well north of Fort Abercrombie and nowhere near the SD border. Even Wahpeton is well north of the border. Your map is WAY out of whack.......Sorry.
Great Time working with you, hope this boosts your channel
Yours too, this was fun to make!
Sad subject, but glad that you're giving it attention. Great video, as always

Awesome story! Thanks for the correction. There’s a possibility that I would like to revisit this campaign some day.

Could you do a video of the The Wounded Knee Massacre, also known as the Battle of Wounded Knee
Which took place on December 29, 1890 South Dakota.
The Sioux was a cruel..savage enemy
You should see how cruel the U.S forces could be.

Underated channel
Obligatory comment to help the channel.

I have no plans to cover the Civil War in-depth, but I know someone who currently is. Check out the channel "Warhawk" if you haven't.

The Sioux War began when first encountered by Lewis and Clark. Read their journal remarks!

Oh no. I just take a neutral view as much as I can. No ignoring how badly the Sioux and related tribes were treated though
