Congratulations. That Murphy Aged Guitar is beautiful and sounds fantastic. I am happy for you that you got the guitar you wanted so bad, it provides unlimited inspiration. 👍🎸😎✌️

Can someone please explain to me the benefit of “Murphy Lab“ aging? I feel like it’s buying a Mercedes and then taking a hammer and banging around a little a little to put dents in it to make it…..”aged”. What am I missing?
Yeah, just for reference, here in Canada L&McQ shows the lightly aged one for $10,249.00. That's in another universe for me. It's good to see you're doing okay.
Same here. How anyone can afford one is beyond me. Even if you bought one during Gibson month, it’s nearly $1000 a month. I’m happy to relic my own Gibsons by playing and appreciating the ones I own.
In 1997 I was 17 and took a trip to Austin TX where I found an original 1963 firebird III in a pawn shop and bought it for $800, got a bluesbreaker reissue combo on the same trip. I had the firebird authenticated by Gruhn guitars and later sold it to them. I have been a firebird fan ever since but the modern ones just didn't do it for me but these seam to be what I've been looking for I had my sights set on a murphy lab SG but the firebird will be my target now thanks for sharing!
Wowza! I hope it was financially worth it to sell. The ones that hurt me are the instruments that I once had yet now would ideally like to repurchase if I could.
@@michaelaiello9525 I got 6 times what I paid for it but now they are worth much more I was in a metal band at the time so the gear didn’t fit the style wish I still had it of course.
I got a Murphy Labs R7 Goldtop dark back light aged last year, and it's literally the best guitar I've ever played in my 30 years of playing. It's PERFECT!!!!! Good on you man, the high price is totally worth it!
I had a Pelham Blue Standard T very similar to your 2019 a few years ago. Sold it. Missed it immediately. Last weekend, I snagged on a Pelham Kauer Banshee. A Firebird shaped hole in my heart has been filled again.
Sounds great and I agree on the Plek! (Ive had several done but much cheaper than Gibsons price). Just dont pay extra for that murphy thing...gave a couple of my young nephews guitars over the years...they had them relic'd in no time at all! Its a DIY thing, anyone can relic.
I love Pelham Blue Gibson Firebirds. I love light relic jobs, too, for the same reason you do: They just feel broken in like a favorite pair of jeans. Congrats, Robert!
Nice to see they made the case extra thick. Those banjo tuners on the low strings with the neck angle could potentially hit the bottom of a thinner case, and cause a headstock break.
I have a FB VII from 2003 and it’s aged on it’s own. Finish has checked on its own nicely! I had it Pleked years ago and I have some old mini’s with the offset poles that Gibson made for Silvertone in the early Sixties. Beautiful Ebony fingerboard! It’s in Coppermist! I have three Murphy Lab guitars. A ‘59 Les Paul, a ‘64 ES-335 and a ‘61 ES-335 with only a wrapover bridge/tailpiece.
Ridiculous what they want for a guitar these days, back in 1963, year I was born, you could of bought 2 or 3 new cars for the price of this firebird today
Its really nice Robert . Not a Firebird but I have a DBZ Hailfire , same shape , spalted top and raised through body neck with JB 59s . It rings like a BELL . By far the most resonante and powerful guitar I have . Stays in tune very good as well .
Nice choice! I see there's like only two on Reverb right now that have the Vibrola and are under $5k! They are super comfortable to play - the way the right arm lays on the body along the top angle vs across the edge of the body. Also, the right shoulder isn't hiked up, like with a strat or tele style guitar.
Dang! The kid is on fire! A new git-tar and he's all fired up. Well done. Now do another legato workout with the 'new" Firebird. I like those little five minute workouts. I keep going back to refresh every week or so. Thanks Robert.
I've never noticed that paint scheme on a Firebird headstock before, I only remember seeing the entire center being a solid color with the edge coving being the same or in a contrasting color.
Love that aqua marine tint on the aged Pelham blue. When you hold both firebirds up it’s easy to see how much more vibe that Murphy aged one has. I’m sure that also translates into the feel and even sound of it with the more authentic pickups.
Good for you my man!! I love it when you get a new guitar and you quickly bond with the feel and tone right away. Hope you stay inspired by this guitar for years to come!! Thanks for the video! Enjoy watching and learning.
Congratulations! Pelham Blue is gorgeous on that guitar. The Firebird and the quirky Moderne are my favorite Gibson shapes. I have a 2013 Gibby Firebird and a 2022 Epiphone Firebird. The Epi's pickups, with the Alnico magents are more "authentic" than the Gibby 2013 with the ceramic pups. I also have a 2011 Gibson Moderne and a 2022 Epiphone Moderne. I guess I'm kind of crazy, lol.
Sweet! Gibson Murphy Lab guitars are works of art. I have a R9 factory burst that got the Murphy lab treatment. Also got it through Sweetwater. You will enjoy that for years to come. Congratulations.
I’ve had three Gibson USA Firebirds in the last 15 years, and just sold that third one, because like the other USA models, they just don’t stay in tune well. I have your exact guitar with the Vintage Sunburst finish and it is so much better than the USA version. The banjo tuners are way better quality than the ones for the USA guitars. Custom Shop Gibsons are the only way to go IMO.
Gibson custom shop is on another level, they are NOT the same as a USA off the line. I did the same with my ‘64 vos 335.. It has murphy lab “patina” its very light but, yeah man CS is another level. USA production is fine, I have many, and play them the most because they are cheaper I dont cry about wear, but any CS it going to be a completely different animal. I dont know what they are doing over at the CS but They are killing it!
Congrats on your new Guitar. When I saw the thumbnail for this video I started to guess. I was partially right in that I guessed Murphy Lab. But I didn't guess the Firebird.
Robert, congratulations! I had that Maestro Vibrola on my Gibson 64 SG Reissue. Could not keep it in tune, so take heed. By the way, great "For Your Life" riff.

I'm not crying because I still own the Mirror and Dragon Jimmy Page Tele's.
Tell your wife it's actually not the same color, because your Murphy Lab one has the lovely yellowing on it which gives the blue that lovely greenish tint to it.

I’ve always thought that Firebirds are super cool, especially the 1’s! Not that I’ve ever played one, lol! They just seem like a unique beast. Oddly, I’ve swung over to a fascination with the Korina Explorers instead when it comes to radical offset shapes. But again, just theoretical and based on aesthetics. I haven’t played a Korina Explorer either. They are not top shelf guitars, but I’m fortunate to have 3 modest guitars that have some intrinsic value.
