      @@tricko8000 Music has a weird psychology to it. So someone who started listening to and became a fan of music in the early 2000s will disagree with you and even if they’re “technically wrong” they technically aren’t. My point is that there is always music that will stand the test of time and just because something is a commercial success for the time doesn’t make it timeless. There are also musicians and bands today that could stand up toe to toe with any band from the 90s or 80s. I feel it’s best to just enjoy everything no matter what era it’s from the same way one should enjoy all wines no matter the price point or year.

    Araron is surely going for ease of performance without messing with his pedal and modelers and has done an AMAZINE job programing his system to get the sounds and versatility to exact specifications just like a Perfectionist! I love it, there is definitely an Eric Johnson sound and feel to some of the ambient guitar work. I created a simple pedal board with a Boss SY-1 synth going into the Boss DD 200 multi digital Delay into a Boss RV-6 Reverb. Both the DD-200 and the RV-6 have Shimmer and Modulate ( I love the Terra Echo setting) and with all 3 units with the variable settings, I can get everything I want and need for ambient spatial guitar sounds and it is easy to tweak without going into deep menus or programming. Whether or not Aaron still uses the quad or not, it sounded dam good. It’s UI, it’s feel and sound beat the two big guys. The compactness and cool factor, the footswitches that do last thousands of times. They were tested by a machine. The fact that you can also turn them or put your finger on the screen to move the different knobs. The overall easy workflow. Takes a few minutes to get a great sound. Presets, scenes, stomp mode and now hybrid. Neural also has their own other list of their captures that will keep me busy for a long time. The plug in whiners are whining because they don’t want to actually buy the unit. They want to be tied to a computer and pay very little for their plug ins. Fine but stop badmouthing neural. Their customer
    service is great. Personally, Kemper was nowhere to be found when I needed help. Sorry but true. Then they added a secret Bluetooth to their least expensive model, the stage so u can use ur cell. Great. It’s an extra $100 bucks to set that rig manager mess up with a cell if you own the more expensive models. No thx. Sold. Helix is the same thing re feel and sound. Sold. If Aaron even used this for a year, it still means it was good. He probably needed more sounds. I don’t want 100’s of modulation fx. That’s just me and my opinion. He’s also known to switch brands a lot. But I only see the axe fx and the quad that have been with him. And amps I’m sure. Btw amps and pedals always come first but the quad comes next.

    Played in a prog metal band back in 2012 and all of our patch changes were midi controlled. Had a POD HD pro, and a axe-fxII, and all of the patch changes and mutes were fully automated to match the drummer's click and backing tracks.

    • @zakm0n
      @zakm0n 2 года назад +5

      @@stephenfrancis303 it doesn't really affect the sound. You basically have to play the same set every time, but you no longer have to worry about patch changes or muting for tuning. It made us as a band INCREDIBLY tight, but it didn't make anything seem too polished.

      @@stephenfrancis303 oh yeah, that only really affects automating patch changes and keeping the band synced up with the tracks and patch changes through the drummer who's on a click track. All of the guitars are still played by people and the modelers were amplified through analog gear.

    Such a great player - your interviews have reached a new level this year, Rick! The only comment I would have is that it is also sometimes good to explore the old ways of playing guitar and older sounds - best example I can think of is Brian Setzer's mining of rockabilly guitar... ultimately mastering and reinventing it. Sometimes the future path can be a reimagining of the past, and too often people have a "been there done that" attitude on playing methods that they've barely explored.

      I think there’s room enough for both. Things have evolved to a certain point, yet, you still have traditionalists who want to “plug n play,” just like you’re talking about. Even Jimi Hendrix was constantly pushing the envelope; if he hadn’t experimented, we would’ve gotten Chicago blues without all the dazzle and style of Jimi…I think you would enjoy some of the guitarists coming from the deserts of Mali, and all the guys like Tinariwen who do traditional Middle Eastern music, fused with Western rock and blues. Check out some of that stuff and see what you think. It’s great!
